GATE 2022: Sonepat, Panipat removed as exam centres, candidates asked to change exam city
GATE 2022 is scheduled to be held on February 5, 6, 12, and 13.
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2022 authorities have cancelled the exam centres set up in the Sonepat and Panipat cities of Haryana. Students who had opted for exam centres in these two cities have been asked to change their city of choice.
In an official notice, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, the conducting authority of GATE 2022 exam, said, โWe regret to inform that the exam cities Sonepat and Panipat have been cancelled. Candidates who selected these cities are requested to change the city choice without additional fees." The facility will be offered without an additional fee to students of only these two exam centres.
The cities in which exam centres have been cancelled are also the same locations where at least one exam centre was hacked during the JEE Main 2021 Session 4 exam. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) found irregularities in the Session 4 of JEE Main 2021 examination. As per the reports, some candidates paid INR 15 lakh in exchange for someone else to take their test. The directors of a private coaching centre manipulated the online examination and facilitated aspiring students to get admission in top NITs in consideration of huge amount by solving the question paper of the applicant through remote access from a chosen examination centre in Sonepat, Haryana. The CBI has so far arrested seven people in connection with alleged cheating case.
GATE 2022 is scheduled to be held on February 5, 6, 12, and 13. The exam is conducted every year for admission of students to postgraduate engineering programmes (MTech) offered by IITs, NITs, IIITs and other institutes. Various public sector units in India also accept the GATE score for the recruitment of students as engineer trainees. IIT Kharagpur released the application form for GATE 2022 on September 2. The last date to submit the application form without the late fee was September 30 and with the late fee was October 7, 2021.
