IIT Delhi Convocation 2024: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will conduct its 55th Annual Convocation on August 10, 2024. Hari S. Bhartia, Founder and Co-Chairman of Jubilant Bhartia Group and a Distinguished Alumnus of IIT Delhi (1979 batch, B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering), will be the Chief Guest and address the graduating students.
During a press conference held today, IIT Delhi's Director, Prof. Rangan Banerjee, announced that over 2,600 students will receive their degrees at this year's Convocation, with women making up 25% of the graduating class. The youngest graduate, who will receive a BTech degree, is under 20 years old, while the oldest, a PhD recipient, is 63.
IIT Delhi PhD Graduates
At the IIT Delhi 55th convocation, over 475 PhD graduates will receive their degrees, representing a significant 35% increase from the previous year. This rise underscores the Institute’s focus on research and development. Notably, women constitute 42% of the graduating PhD students, highlighting the growing participation and contribution of women in advanced research fields.
In addition to students graduating from B.Tech. and Dual Degree programs, degrees and diplomas will also be conferred to graduates from the PhD, MBA, MS (Research), M.Des., M.Tech., Master of Public Policy, M.Tech. under Advance Standing, PG D.I.I.T. (Naval Construction), Joint PG Diploma in VLFM, D.I.I.T. (PG), and M.Sc. programs at the convocation.
First Graduation in Two UG Programmes
This year also celebrates our inaugural graduates in two undergraduate programmes: B.Tech. in Materials Engineering and B.Tech. in Engineering and Computational Mechanics as well as four postgraduate programmes: M.Tech. in Machine Intelligence and Data Science, M.Tech. in Biomolecular and Bioprocess Engineering, M.S. (Research) in Transportation Safety and Injury Prevention, and M.S. (Research) in Automotive Research and Tribology.
IIT Delhi Convocation 2024: International Students
At the convocation, a total of 28 international students will receive their degrees. This group includes 4 students each from Sudan and Ethiopia, 3 from Tanzania and Uganda, 2 each from Bangladesh and Burkina Faso, and 1 each from several other countries, including the USA and Venezuela. During the academic year 2023-24, the Institute welcomed 44 international students across various postgraduate programs. Of these, 10 are enrolled in the PhD program, while the remaining 34 are pursuing different master’s courses.

Q: Is IIT Delhi good for an MBA?
The Department of Management Studies (DMS), IIT Delhi, also known as DMS IIT Delhi offers a two-year MBA course at undergraduate courses in a full-time mode. IIT Delhi is a decent option to pursue an MBA degree. IIT Delhi ranked 4 by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in the Management category IN 2024. Talking about DMS IIT Delhi MBA placements 2023, the average package offered was INR 25.82 LPA and the highest package stood at INR 41.13 LPA. A placement percentage of 100% was achieved. Q: Is BTech available in IIT Delhi?
Yes, IIT Delhi offers a four-year full-time BTech course at the undergraduate level. IIT Delhi BTech admission is completely entrance-based. IIT Delhi BTech admission is based on JEE Advanced score obtained by JEE Main-qualified candidates. Q: Is it worth doing MSc from IIT Delhi?
Yes, IIT Delhi is a good institute for MSc aspirants. The institute has got a good overall rank from NIRF in the 2023 rankings. It has been ranked at the third spot among top colleges in the country. Moreover, IIT Delhi also provide placements support. As per its 2023 placement report, the median package offered to PG (2-year) candidates was INR 12.50 LPA. Some of the top companies that participate in its placements drive are Microsoft, Cisco, Accenture, etc.
Q: Is PhD available in IIT Delhi?
Yes, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi offers PhD in full-time and part-time modes. The doctoral-level course is made available by almost all the departments of the institute. Candidates who meet the required eligibility criteria and have the relevant work experience become eligible for admission. Currently, IIT Delhi Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology department is offering joint PhD programme with the University of Queensland.

IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi Campus
Prof. Rangan Banerjee announced that IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi is set to launch its inaugural undergraduate programmes in September 2024. The new programs will be offered in Computer Science & Engineering and Energy Engineering. All necessary infrastructure, including laboratories and hostel facilities, is prepared for the start of these programs.
The planned intake for the two undergraduate programs is 60 students, with 30 in each program. This will include 20 students who have qualified through JEE (Advanced) 2024 and 40 students selected via a new entrance test called the Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET). Of the 40 students chosen through CAET, 20 seats are reserved for UAE nationals, while the remaining 20 seats are allocated for expatriates in the UAE (including Indian expatriates) and international students.
