IIT Madras Announces New BTech Program: Artificial Intelligence & Data Analytics; Admission via JEE Advanced Scores

Another new course has been added this year for the JEE Advanced 2024 candidates to opt for. IIT Madras is starting Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (4 Years, Bachelor of Technology) course. Admission will be based on JEE Advanced 2024 ranks.

IIT Madras has introduced a new BTech course starting this year. This course is Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (4 Years, Bachelor of Technology) with only 50 seats available. Admission will be solely determined by JEE Advanced ranks and seats will be allotted via JoSAA counselling. Candidate registration and choice filling for academic programmes under JoSAA 2024 will end on June 18. There will be five rounds of counselling this year followed by a round under the NIT+ system only round.

In its inaugural batch, this program falls under the newly formed Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, according to Professor B. Ravindran, who heads the school at the institution. 

The course code for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics is 412L. Professor B. Ravindran clarified that there was no prior course on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at IIT Madras. He explained that when entering the course name on the JoSAA portal, it was mistakenly recorded as Data Science and Artificial Intelligence instead of Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics. To prevent confusion among prospective students registering for the program on JoSAA, a notice has been posted on josaa.nic.in.

The JoSAA website notice mentions: “The course code and name of the following course at Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai 4181: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (4-year BTech program) has been updated to 412L: Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (4 year BTech program)”

The new program focuses on fundamental mathematical concepts, data science, AI, and machine learning foundations, along with application development and responsible design, all infused with a unique interdisciplinary approach.

Notably, there's an increase of 355 seats compared to last year in the IITs, with this year's total reaching 17,740, while last year's stood at 17,385.
