JEE Advanced 2021 candidates wrote they are demanding a compensatory attempt not extra attempt in JEE Advanced 2023 as they were unable to appear in the exam due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A section of students belonging to Class 12 2021 batch have written a letter to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan clarifying that they have not been asking for a third attempt rather a compensatory attempt in JEE Advanced 2023. Students have cited many reasons, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the education disruption and mental stress caused by it behind their demand.

The letter reads, "It has been of misunderstandings by some of the authorities that we are requesting/demanding for an extra attempt in the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Advanced 2023. In reality we’re requesting for a relaxation in the JEE Advanced criterion of “Two attempts in Two consecutive years” vide which, the students who did not appear in the JEE Advanced twice or even once yet, can appear in the JEE Advanced 2023 as a special provision in JEE Advanced 2023 for 2021 passouts.…"

As per the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2023, a candidate should have appeared for Class 12 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2022 or 2023 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. Candidates who had appeared in Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2021 or earlier, are NOT eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2023, irrespective of the combination of subjects attempted/offered.

These students have also taken to Twitter to voice their concern. They are trending the hashtag #PradhanJiBlessJEE23. A Class 12 student of 2021 batch wrote, “It is not an extra attempt or 3rd attempt it is fair and compensatory attempt,” another tweeted, “#PradhanJiBlessJEE23 Compensatory attempt for 2021 pass out in JEE advanced 2023 is a must need for them they are not asking for extra attempt or third attempt they just want to use their second attempt of JEE advanced in their second law of here that's the point.”

“#PradhanJiBlessJEE23 trends on Twitter

A JEE aspirant wrote, “#PradhanJiBlessJEE23 I passed my class 12tg in 2021 . We faced many issues due to COVID. Our one and half year got wasted. We couldn't able to attend offline classes. So i request all the authorities to give us compensatory attempt for jee adv in 2023 for 2021 students,” while another wrote, “Please listen to the voice of 2021 12th passouts.. We were denied extra compensatory attempt by JAB in jee advance 2023 #JEEAdv2023For2021Passouts.”
