Top IITs' CSE Cutoff Hit 8-Year Low; Check Analysis of JEE Advanced Closing Ranks
Top IITs' CSE cutoff has fallen after JoSAA round 1 seat allotment. A descriptive analysis of the admission cutoff for the most sought-after course at the IITs is given below.
This year, the cutoff for Computer Science Engineering (CSE) at the top IITs has decreased. While the decrease is slight at IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi, it is significant at IIT Kanpur, Roorkee, Kharagpur, and Madras.
In comparison to 2023, the JEE Advanced cutoff for admission to IIT Bombay has decreased slightly from 66 to 68, and for IIT Delhi, it has fallen from 115 to 116. However, other top IITs have experienced more substantial decreases in their JEE Advanced closing ranks for CSE admissions: IIT Kanpur has seen a decrease from 215 to 248, IIT Roorkee from 396 to 481, IIT Kharagpur from 261 to 414, and IIT Madras from 144 to 159.
Note that the JEE Advanced cutoff for admission to IITs is determined by the closing rank after each counselling round. Therefore, a higher rank indicates a lower cutoff.
After the JoSAA round 1 seat allotment in 2024, the JEE Advanced cutoff ranks for the CSE course at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, and IIT Kharagpur have hit an eight-year low. However, at IIT Madras, while the cutoff has decreased compared to last year, it remains higher than the cutoffs observed between 2016 and 2022.
Past 8 Years’ IIT CSE JEE Advanced Cutoff Analysis
Typically, the closing rank after round 1 at the top IITs for the CSE course either remains stable or increases by two or three ranks. Therefore, it is expected that the cutoff after all five rounds as well of JoSAA 2024 counselling will be the lowest in eight years.
