The JEE Advanced 2024 exam is scheduled for May 26, with IIT Madras set to distribute admit cards to registered candidates on May 17. This year, a total of 250,284 candidates have qualified for the exam. Uttar Pradesh leads with over 28,000 eligible candidates, making it the state with the highest representation. Following UP are Maharashtra with 24,596 candidates and Telangana with 24,121 candidates.

Significant Regional Imbalance

A recent report by TOI highlighted the stark regional imbalance in India's competitive exams, particularly evident in the IIT entrance. Out of the 2.5 lakh qualifying candidates, over 54% hail from just six states, while nearly 73% come from 10 states. Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Telangana stand out as the top three states, contributing more than one-third (30.7%) of the total eligible candidates for JEE (Advanced). These states consistently produce a significant number of eligible candidates for the exam.

Moreover, 11 states boast more than 11,000 qualifying candidates, constituting close to 79% of the total qualifiers. Among them, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan, alongside the top three states, have over 21,000 eligible candidates each. The JEE (Main) witnessed a substantial registration of 14.1 lakh candidates this year, with over 75% participating in both exam sessions, showcasing an impressive 96% attendance rate.
