Delhi University teachers to organise meeting against CUET, FYUP at Arts Faculty
Teachers has stated that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is being rolled out without much discussion and debate.
A section of Delhi University teachers have planned to host a meeting tomorrow against various new schemes introduced by the university administration, which include the change in the admission process for undergraduate courses through the Central University Entrance Examination (CUET) and the introduction of Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP).
The teachers have alleged that the changed admission and course structure at DU will lead to the centralization of the admissions process and also prove detrimental for students from state boards. The meeting will be attended by senior-level left party leaders like Brinda Karat as well as RJD Member of Parliament Prof. Manoj Kumar Jha.
The association of DU Teachers has stated that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is being rolled out without much discussion and debate. It has been alleged that brushing aside the serious concerns expressed by teachers’ and students’ bodies, academic “reforms” in higher education are being pushed hastily in a top-down manner, without even the fig leaf of placing the policy before Parliament.
Delhi University Restructuring
The restructuring includes the replacement of the three-year UG programme with an FYUGP, the teachers have alleged that it is being done without any academic advantage to students or preparation in terms of grants for additional infrastructure required for hosting such a programme.
Admission to UG programmes on the basis of a centralized examination, CUET which will lead to extreme centralization, marginalization of state governments and of students coming from state boards and those who cannot afford coaching,” alleges teachers.
The teachers have also termed scrapping of the MPhil research programme, seat cut in PhD and replacement of grants with institutional loans from the Higher Education Funding Agency (HEFA), as negative steps.
