The application portal for LLB and LLM 2023 entrance examination is available from February 15 to March 15, 2023, at the official website gateoffice.iitkgp.ac.in. Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law IIT Kharagpur has started the registration process for the entrance exams for admission to law UG and PG courses.

Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law IIT Kharagpur has commenced the registration process for LLB and LLM 2023 entrance examinations. The application form is available at the official website gateoffice.iitkgp.ac.in from February 15 to March 15, 2023.

LLB and LLM entrance tests consist of two stages - a computer Based Test (CBT) of 2 hrs duration and a Personal Interview (PI). There is no negative marking. To get shortlisted for the second round i.e. PI, it is mandatory to obtain a minimum of 35% marks in CBT. Only shortlisted candidates who qualify for CBT will be called for PI. For final selection, PI is compulsory.

The application needs to be filled out online for these courses and the following documents are needed to fill the application form - EWS/OBC (Non-creamy)/SC/ST/PD certificate (if applicable), Qualifying Degree Certificates as mentioned in the Eligibility Criteria.

The application fee is INR 3,000 for males (General/EWS/OBC), and INR 1500 for Female/Third Gender/SC/ST/PwD candidates.

"For LL.B. and LL.M. Entrance Examination 2023, the online personal interview will start on a date which will be announced later. This will be conducted for the candidates who qualify in CBT. Please visit examination details page for more. Each day, the interview will start at 9:30 AM and will continue till 6:30 PM. Separate notice on the reporting time and the online meeting link will be issued later. It is directed that each student joins the online interview using a computer with stable internet connection that can stream own video during the interview," reads the official notification.

Eligibility Criteria for LLB, LLM at IIT Kharagpur

For the LLB course, the following are the eligibility requirement:

  • First Class Bachelors Degree in Engineering / Technology / Medicine or equivalent.

         OR

  • First Class Masters Degree in Science or Pharmacy or equivalent.

         OR

  • First Class MBA Degree with any of the above
  • If the degree awarding institute does not explicitly mention “First Class” then the eligibility will be a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 on 10 point scale. .

For LLM, here are the requirements:

  • First class (or equivalent) in Bachelor of Laws LL.B./B.L. (5 years) program from any recognised University.
  • First Class (or equivalent) in Bachelor of Laws LL.B./B.L.(3 years) program from any recognised University along with Bachelor's Degree (not less than 3 years) in Humanities/ Science/ Commerce or equivalent.
  • If the degree awarding institute does not explicitly mention “First Class”, then the eligibility will be a minimum of 60% marks or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale.
  • Students pursuing LL.B (Hons.) in Intellectual Property Law from the IIT Kharagpur in the academic year 2022-23 with final CGPA of 8.5 or above are eligible for admission to LL.M program without appearing in this entrance test.

For both LLB and LLM admission, the CGPA will not be converted into percentage marks if the degree awarding institute provides marks in CGPA system. Then, the admission will be based on the CGPA awarded in the transcript. If the CGPA is on a different scale other than 10.0, the eligibility of the candidate will be calculated corresponding to the equivalence stated above.
