The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode has collected around Rs 1 Crore for the coronavirus relief work. The institute will be donating approx Rs 32.09 lakh to the Prime Minister's relief fund i.e. PM Cares Fund and Rs 25 lakhs to the Kerala Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) as part of this initiative.

The IIM Kozhikode has said that Rs 7.09 lakh (approximately) has been raised through the voluntary contribution of a day's salary by the Director, Staff, and faculty of the Institute.

IIMK Alumni Association has also raised contribution of close to Rs 40 lakhs and will be used for various coronavirus related rescue efforts at the community level.

"A humanitarian challenge as enormous as this requires every citizen to rise to the occasion and dutifully play their part. The Director, Staff and Faculty members have contributed a day's salary to augment the substantial efforts being undertaken by the Central and the State Government to overcome this challenge," Prof Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM Kozhikode, said while announcing the contribution.

"The Alumni Association who have adopted coronavirus fundraising as a mission has contributed significantly to this cause. As a nation, all of us are in this together and together will emerge out of this even stronger," Prof Chatterjee added.

This is not the first time that IIMK has contributed towards relief cause, earlier, the institute had come forward to help the state in its Flood relief activities when it had faced two back to back floods in 2018 and 2019.

IIMK community has been distributing family hygiene kits to Kunnamangalam Police personnel and monetary contribution towards the Kozhikode Medical College's Disaster Relief, as part of its native community-strengthening initiatives.
