A standout feature of this intake is the remarkable gender balance, with female students outnumbering their male counterparts by a significant margin. According to university statistics, out of the 320 students enrolled, a staggering 76% are females, comprising 244 students, while males constitute the remaining 24%, totaling 76 students.
Orientation and Academic Initiatives
The inaugural days of the program were marked by an extensive orientation session designed to acquaint the new cohort with the academic framework and institutional policies. Atri Sengupta led the session, which covered essential aspects such as the MBA ordinance and stringent anti-ragging measures. The program further includes hands-on workshops and expert panels aimed at enriching students' learning experience.
Diverse Academic Backgrounds
This year's batch reflects not only gender diversity but also a broad spectrum of academic backgrounds. Notably, 60% of the students hail from non-engineering disciplines, showcasing a shift towards a more diverse academic profile at IIM Sambalpur. Among these, 19% bring backgrounds in science and commerce, 12.5% in management, and 4% in arts, whereas 40% of the batch have engineering backgrounds.
Varied Experience Levels
In terms of professional experience, the batch comprises a balanced mix of seasoned professionals and fresh graduates. Approximately 46% of the students enter the program with prior work experience, underscoring IIM Sambalpur's appeal to both early-career aspirants and those seeking career advancement through higher education.

Addressing the incoming students, Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to innovation, integrity, and inclusiveness. He highlighted the institute's pioneering efforts in promoting gender diversity, a policy that has set benchmarks across the IIM ecosystem since its inception in 2017.
