Q:   Is NIFT Jodhpur better than Pearl Academy, Mumbai, for MFM?

A:
Choosing between NIFT Jodhpur and Pearl Academy Mumbai for MFM (Master of Fashion Management) depends on various factors such as course curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, industry exposure, placements, and personal preferences. Here's an overview of the two institutes: National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Jodhpur: NIFT is a premier institute for fashion design, management, and technology education in India. It is a government institute and is known for its academic excellence and industry collaborations. The MFM course at NIFT Jodhpur covers various areas such as fashion marketing, retail management, supply chain management, and brand management. NIFT has an experienced faculty, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and industry collaborations that provide students with ample opportunities for learning and exposure. The institute has a good track record of placements, and its alumni are working with some of the top fashion and retail brands in the industry. Pearl Academy, Mumbai: Pearl Academy is a private institute that offers courses in design, fashion, and business studies. It is known for its innovative curriculum, industry engagement, and modern infrastructure. The MFM course at Pearl Academy covers various areas such as luxury brand management, fashion entrepreneurship, and retail merchandising. The academy has a team of experienced faculty, modern infrastructure, and industry collaborations that provide students with ample opportunities for learning and exposure. The academy has a good track record of placements, and its alumni are working with some of the top fashion and retail brands in the industry. In terms of the location, Jodhpur and Mumbai have different advantages and disadvantages. Jodhpur is a small city with a peaceful environment, while Mumbai is a cosmopolitan city with more opportunities for industry exposure and internships. Therefore, it is advisable to research more about both the institutes, compare their course curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, industry exposure, and placements, and choose the institute that aligns with your personal preferences, career aspirations, and overall goals.

Q:   Which one is better for B.Des, National Institute of Fashion Technology Kannur or National Institute of Fashion Technology, Chennai?

A:

Both National Institute of Fashion Technology Kannur and National Institute of Fashion Technology Chennai are well-known institutes for B.Des courses. Here are some key points to consider when comparing the two:

National Institute of Fashion Technology Kannur -

  1. Established in 2008.
  2. Offers a B.Des programme with a duration of four years in four specializations.
  3. Total seat intake for B.Des programme is 176.
  4. Ranked 9th amongst the 16 NIRF.

National Institute of Fashion Technology Chennai -

  1. Offers a B.Des programme in Fashion Communication (Lateral Entry).
  2. Duration of the programme is three years.
It is difficult to say which institute is better for B.Des as it depends on individual preferences and priorities. Some factors to consider when making a decision include location, course offerings, faculty, campus facilities, and placement opportunities. It is recommended to research both institutes thoroughly and weigh the pros and cons before making a decision.

Q:   Which is the best entrance exam for BDes: NIFT Entrance Exam or UCEED?

A:
NIFT entrance examination is Institutional based examination which will only help you to get into NIFT whereas UCEED is a common Entrance Examination which is accepted by many design colleges and universities. So if you plan to get into only NIFT then you do have to give NIFT Entrance Exam but if you plan to apply in many universities then UCEED is a better option as you'll have many university choices and you can get admission on the basis of UCEED score.

On its establishment, NIFT instructors were from Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, USA. Further, distinguished personalities from the field of fashion and design were recruited to form in-house faculty of NIFT. “Pupul Jaykar Hall at NIFT headquarters in New Delhi is a reminiscence of many educational thinkers and visionaries who have been instrumental to the institute's road map to success”, informs the official website.

NIFT Accreditation

NIFT Act 2006 published in the Gazette of India on July 14, 2006 confers Statutory Status on the institute. This Act came into effect from April 1, 2007.

As per the act the President of India is the 'Visitor' of NIFT. Also, the act gives NIFT the power to award Degrees as well as other distinctions on completion of the course. NIFT is the first design institute in India that can award its own degrees.

The Degrees awarded by NIFT are recognised by academia worldwide. The design institute is known to confer Degrees to the graduates as part of the Convocation Ceremony which is conducted each year.

NIFT Admission Process

Admission to design courses at the NIFTs is conducted through the NIFT entrance exam.

The NIFT is a two-step exam. The candidate first appears in the GAT and CAT written exams. If shortlisted, the candidate will have to appear in a Situation Test/ Personal Interview.

NIFT Speciality Areas & How it is different from other Design schools

There are many other popular design colleges in India. However, what sets National Institute of Fashion Technology apart from them is that it offers more in-depth and diverse courses related to the fashion industry.

At NIFT “they teach you about fabrics, illustration, aesthetic sense, garment construction, styling etc. The education system at NIFT is such that we are taught more about apparels. Also, NIFT teaches you in and out of everything related to fashion”, shares Shreya an alumni of NIFT Delhi.

Sharing the same thoughts Shiksha’s Design stream expert, Shipra Anand said, “NIFT focuses on Fashion and Apparel sector while NID and IDC focus on Industrial Design and Communication Design sector”.

Why Should Students Opt to Secure Admission at NIFTs

One of the aspects due to which aspirants should opt to secure admission at any of the NIFTs is their placement and Shipra even shared that the best placements in fashion industry take place at NIFT.

She further revealed other reasons to select NIFT as a college choice by saying, “NIFT has student exchange tie-ups with more than 32 countries in the world. Hence, best exposure and opportunities for higher education or design interventions happen through NIFT”. It’s not just this, even the Government of India considers NIFT to be the premier most fashion design college in the country. “Anything in textile and apparel industry that is undertaken by the GOI is entrusted with NIFT. For example: Metro uniforms were designed by NIFT, new blankets in railways were designed by NIFT, khadi innovations happen with NIFT, craft clusters under GOI also happen with NIFT”, informed Shipra.
