UPCATET 2020 Exam Analysis and UPCATET Student Reaction

The Uttar Pradesh Combined Agriculture and Technology Entrance Test (UPCATET) 2020 exam was conducted successfully on August 18, 19 and 20, 2020. To conduct the UPCATET 2020 exam amidst the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) was a bold move, especially when it comes to having large gatherings of students at an exam centre. However, exam centres and the officials ensured the safety of candidates by providing hand sanitizers and masks for students at the exam centre. Students were also advised to carry their own masks and hand sanitizers as it was mentioned on the notice on the official website of UPCATET and on the UPCATET Admit Card as well.

Students were advised to reach the exam centre 45 minutes before the scheduled time and had to carry their government authorized IDs along with a passport size photograph. Candidates who appeared for UPCATET on the mentioned dates, were scanned with a non-contact thermometer before entering the premises.

UPCATET 2020 during COVID-19

One of the most debatable topics which are discussed was ‘Is it safe to appear for an entrance exam during such a time?’. Students are under immense pressure and fear when it comes to stepping out of the house, especially when it comes to appearing for an entrance exam during the ongoing battle against a global pandemic known as COVID-19 (Coronavirus). It is learnt that there are students who applied for UPCATET, but did not appear for the entrance exam simply because they did not want to place themselves and their families in jeopardy by catching the virus.

However, many students appeared for the entrance exam. A student mentioned that the seating arrangement was done in such a way that a seat after the candidate was left vacant in order to establish social distancing. Students were also scanned by the thermometer gun before entering the campus.

UPCATET 2020 Student Reaction

Shiksha got a few reactions from students who appeared for the UPCATET 2020 exam. They spoke about how they found the exam, how the exam pattern was and what it like giving the entrance exam during the pandemic.

Kuldeep: Hello, my name is Kuldeep and I am from Lucknow. I appeared for the PAG paper, Agriculture paper in UPCATET. The exam difficulty level was okay. Not too tough or too difficult. I was nervous but I completed the paper on time. It was scary to give the exam during the pandemic but I tried to maintain distance with others around.

Rohan: Hello, my name is Rohan and I live in Lucknow. I appeared for the PHS paper and though the paper was good. There were general studies questions which were based on ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’. There were questions from Humanities such as Economics and Sociology. I thought the paper was okay as I completed the paper on time. I was nervous to appear for the entrance exam. I did not know if I should give it or not because of the virus around, but I finished the paper.

Akash: Hello, my name is Akash and I appeared for the MSc in Agriculture paper in UPCATET. I reside in Kanpur. I have done my BSc in Agriculture and want to do my Master’s in Agriculture as well. I thought the paper was a bit tough. There were some questions I left because I did not understand them. But I could do as much as I could. I thought it was risky to conduct the exam during the pandemic but one has to also complete their education as the year has mostly gone by.

Amita: Hello, my name is Amita and I am from Lucknow. I appeared for the PCM paper and I thought the difficulty level was medium. I completed the paper on time and completed every question. I was scared of giving the exam because of the virus. I took at least two hand sanitizers and two masks just to be safe.

What after UPCATET Exam?
