B.Sc. (Hons) in Biotechnology - Batch of 2024
Offered by Swami Vivekananda Institute of Modern Science - SVIMS

One of the best colleges in Kolkata.
Placements: I'm a biotechnology student. More than 300 students are in our department. Nowadays, biotechnology is a well-known subject and has huge opportunities all over the world. Well-known companies like Coca-Cola, Mother Dairy, and many other food, beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, and dairy companies offer placements and up to 8 lakhs of packages.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of this college is very good; the campus is very big, and every classroom is air-conditioned and has smart board and projector facilities. A huge collection of books is in the library of this college. In this college, there is an open-air auditorium for events like the Fest named Zash-N, freshmen named Parichiti, a farewell party named Vallete held every year, and other programs like Vasant Utsav, Saraswati Puja, and Rabindra Jayanti are also held.
Faculty: The faculty members of this college are very helpful and supportive. They take classes regularly and clear up all the doubts even after the classes. They teach every topic very clearly and easily so that all the students can understand. They also suggest us for our better future and guide us in the industry. Also, take class tests frequently. Semester exams are being conducted with a proper invigilator and under CCTV surveillance.
Other: Biotechnology has many opportunities. In this college environment, the study is great. Most importantly, the laboratory, which is very good, has impressive infrastructure. The library full of books, which is actually needed the most. Apart from these, the campus of this college is very big and has an open auditorium for events. It also has a music room with lots of musical instruments, a game room, a large canteen where food is available all the time, and many more facilities.

Very impressive college and interesting teachers.
Placements: 80% of placements are offered. The highest package is 10 lacs, and the lowest is 1 lacs. The company offers 100% student internships. The roles offered are food inspectors, product quality managers, cosmetic companies hiring beauty products, etc. Interesting research is there .
Infrastructure: Good food and the best environment: separate rooms, clean washrooms, joyful staff and helpers; rooms are good; children can play sports in the evening; a garden for fresh air; outdoor facilities; no water problems; the warden is quite helpful and concerned; just curfew is very early.
Faculty: Teachers are so nice, helpful and quite knowledgeable.
Yes, this is a very relevant course. The preparation for the exam is quite difficult; 48% is a passing percentage; the biochemistry is really hard to study; cell biology is quite interesting and enjoyable; the preparation is hard and the practicals are hard.
Other: I want to pursue a career as a biotech researcher. More guidance is needed and more career consulting is needed. Enjoyable festivals and extracurricular activities are conducted.

Good faculty members, good infrastructure but no placements or internships are available.
Placements: I would suggest not to expect placements from this college from the course of B.Sc. Biotechnology & Microbiology stream. There could be placement opportunities for other streams but for these two streams, there are no placements or internships available. You will have to pursue further studies in this subject to get decent jobs.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is quite good in this college including labs, classrooms, and a library. I traveled everyday. I did not stay in the hostel so I can’t say anything about the hostel facilities, but there are some PGs for staying nearby which are good.
Faculty: All the faculty members are well qualified, knowledgeable and quite helpful. The syllabus is very good. Guards during the exams are very tough and the questions are a little bit easy. From my batch (2021-24) everyone passed in the semester exams. But passing percentage depends on the students.
Other: Scholarship is available in the college. The placements and internships cell of this stream should improve.

The infrastructure and facilities are good. Getting a good number is not hard if you work well.
Placements: In this course, it is very important to study at a higher level. So further studies are needed. Few students who want to go for a job go, but most people go for a higher degree. Such as M.Sc. or MBA. So it's not impossible to get placement after a B.Sc., but it's recommended to go on to further studies. You will get a very low package if you go for a job after your B.Sc. But it will increase with your experiences. But getting a job after an M.Sc. with a good package is easier than after a B.Sc. In my college, the lowest package was approx. INR 5k per month, and the highest was approx. INR 15k per month. As heard. For B.Sc., companies like Flipkart, Amazon, Nestle, Zomato, Tata, etc. recruit us. And some laboratories are also there.
30% of students get internships as per their merit and their choices. Roles offered in my course are: biosafety advisory, contamination checkup, lab assistant, professor, and many more. There are many ways to establish a career in the biotechnology field.
Infrastructure: There is no WiFi available. The labs are quite good. You get every facility there. The classrooms are big, air-conditioned, and comfortable. But the stars are a case of tiredness. We have a library for books. They provide us with books for every semester after we pay the semester fee. And we have to return books at the end of the semester. The faculty members also provide study materials. Hostel is available at our college; you can take PG also near the campus. I'm not quite impressed with the canteen food; it's okay for eating, but if you're very choosy with foods, then the canteen food is definitely not a place for you. But you will get decent home-style food every day, for sure.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable too. Most importantly, they are very friendly. Yes, there are a few exceptions as well. Every place has its pros and cons. It's our choice how we will capture the good one. The course is extremely new. The college provides some extra classes to prepare students for the corporate world. The semester exams are moderate. Few subjects are difficult, but if you study well, you will get a nice SGPA every semester. Your attendance and behavior matter here for internal marks. The pass percentage is quite high too. It depends on how focused you are on your career. Sometimes a few technical issues happen, but that never affects the student's life. Teachers help us with everything, but to a distinct level. But few people are out of humanity and irritating as well.
Other: I chose this course because I was looking for this exact course. It is a very updated subject, and getting a job in this field is enjoyable. I hope the infrastructure and facilities can be improved. The machines and late fine for delayed fee submission Our college has vasant utsav, farewell, freshers, teachers day, fest, and other events as well. They are quite enjoyable. I am not impressed with the campus. Because it's located in an odd place. There is no good food available within walking distance. The number of friends there are depends on your batch. Good and bad, you'll face both types of people. This college life will show you a few sweet and bitter experiences all along.

In a budget, from MAKAUT university you can opt for this.
Placements: From Bachelors in Biotechnology, no placements were provided, as Masters is an essential step for the course. BBA, BCA, MBA students got great placements this year from ITC, Pantaloons, TCS, Cognizant, Asian Paints.
Around 80K per month packaging has been provided.
Infrastructure: Classrooms holds the necessary amenities. Library has all the course concerned books, past question papers are provided for free. College Wi-Fi is not unnecessarily used often. Food is quite fine according to the rate & budget. Hostel and PG amenities are easily available .
Faculty: Teachers are helpful, qualified & teaching quality is good too. The students gather all the basic lab equipments and training to adapt to the industry level. Semester exams are tough as the new syllabus is a vast one. But being within studies doesn't make passing difficult .
Other: Events are arranged by the cultural committee, if received the right group and people, it will a memorable life including many extra curriculars. The placements for the Bachelors in Biotechnology degree can be better for good.
