Q:   Is M.Sc. at Central University of Kashmir a good choice?

A:
{Source: M.Sc. students & alumni}

Based on student reviews and feedback, here's a summary of the pros and cons:

Pros:

* Highly qualified teachers who prepare students for competitive exams like CSIR, NET, SET, and GATE
* Amazing infrastructure with digital classrooms, advanced laboratories, and Wi-Fi facilities
* Biotechnology programme is considered "new" and "advanced", dealing with medical conditions and offering hands-on experience
* Opportunities for internships at renowned institutions, with around 95% of students securing internships
* Teachers are generally helpful and supportive, making themselves available for doubt clearance

Cons:

* Lack of placements, with no company visits to recruit students
* Limited hostel facilities, leading to students staying in rented accommodations
* Infrastructure development is ongoing, which might take three more years to complete
* Teaching staff is average in terms of knowledge, and some faculty members are inexperienced
* The university lacks a permanent campus and has limited resources, resulting in shifting classes frequently
* Placements are largely dependent on individual efforts, with no guarantee of employment

Overall, while M.Sc. at Central University of Kashmir offers some advantages such as experienced teachers and modern infrastructure, it falls short in providing adequate placements and hostel facilities. Students seeking career advancement might face challenges due to the lack of corporate connections and recruitment drives. Nevertheless, the university's biotechnology programme shows promise, and students interested in pursuing research or entrepreneurial ventures might find it a suitable choice.

It is the best university in Kashmir.
Placements: Out of 19 students, most got admission for PhD in top universities like KU, SKUAST, and institutes outside the state. Some received job offers as project associates after internships and others secured government jobs. Some students are preparing for government jobs. Institute prepares students for different exams like CSIR NET, GATE-B, and SET.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the department is highly advanced. Smart classrooms, advanced labs, and library with a splendid collection of books are available. Hostel facilities are excellent with clean rooms and fresh food provided daily in a variety of options. Hostel charges are affordable and its location in the market makes it convenient for students to access essential items.
Faculty: Teaching is outstanding. Faculty members are highly qualified. Their teaching methods are excellent and student-friendly. Course curriculum is relevant. Semester exams are difficult, but the preparation provided by the faculty makes the papers manageable for students. A majority of the faculty have also served abroad as assistant professors or scientists, giving them expertise in clarifying concepts and strong knowledge of lab work.
Other: This course has significant scope. It is a research-oriented subject and a lot of focus should be placed on practical learning rather than theory.

Infrastructure is decent but the hostel facility is not provided for the MBA students as of now.
Placements: About 50% of the students were placed in our course, according to me. The highest package was 2 LPA, the lowest package was 1 LPA, and the average package was 50,000 PA. These are the approximate packages offered in our course. The companies that recruited were ITC, Tata, Jio, and Airtel. About 20% of students got internships at JK Bank, Airtel, and HDFC. The roles offered were marketing manager and executive manager.
Infrastructure: The overall infrastructure was good. Classrooms were decent, and the library was also well-managed. The computer labs were also great. The library is pretty, with a nice environment. But we didn't have Wi-Fi available on our campus. There was no hostel facility provided, but the medical facilities and sports activities were good. Students would participate in all these activities and enjoy them.
Faculty: Yes, the teachers were helpful enough and were well-qualified. The quality of teaching was also nice. The course is relevant and makes the students industry-ready. Semester exams were all implied-question-based, which made the exams pretty tough. The pass percentage is 50%.
Other: I chose this course for better opportunities. The best thing about my course is that it provided me with a platform to gain confidence in myself. Hostel facilities should be provided for the students who come from far-flung areas to study. Yes, my university is involved in all these activities.

Dissatisfied with the placements and infrastructure, but satisfied with the exams and faculty
Placements: There are no placements for the students. It is the students who have to find jobs on their own. There is no company visiting to hire you. There needs to be an improvement in getting companies to the campus. The internships are given to the students who can easily go for it by the University and by other means.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is not so good because the work is still under process. It may take 3 years more to complete, although the basic requirements are available. The hostel facilities are very less and some people are facing issues. The students have no option to take the hostels, they have to stay in the rented rooms.
Faculty: The exams are taken on time. My degree was completed on time and the pattern of the exams is also good. The teachers are good and their way of teaching is also good. They are always helpful towards the students, in case of any doubts regarding studies, they can easily get it cleared.
Other: Physics was my favourite subject that is why I chose the course. They need to improve the placements and the infrastructure. Events and festivals are held from time to time. Scholarships are also given to top 3 students.

Not satisfied with the faculty, and there is no placement cell as well.
Placements: 40 students were selected. No package was offered since the placement cell is the worst. If a person gets an MBA degree from a reputed college, then there are good chances of getting hired by good companies. Very few teachers help students with whom they don't share a good rapport. The administration is very biased.
Infrastructure: First of all, there was no hostel when I joined. But the college has recently started one at the beginning of 2024. Since I had my house nearby, I didn't have to live in the hostel and am not aware of the facilities. But I have heard from students that it isn't that good. First of all, there is no canteen, and students don't have access to Wi-Fi.
Faculty: A few of the teachers were good, knowledgeable, and helpful. But honestly, most of the teachers are very biased. You will not be industry-ready after completing your MBA here since they provide you with only basic knowledge; there isn't much practical learning. Semester exams are just too hectic. First, they have CIAs, 3 times in 6 months, and then the final semester exam. In between, the university burdens students with back-to-back presentations and projects. Everything gets too tiring for a student to handle, and there isn't much help from the teachers.
Other: An MBA is something that has always had hype. People believe that right after getting an MBA degree, they'll get a job. But that is not the case today. Skills are very important these days. Even if you have an MBA degree but lack practical knowledge and skills, it's very hard to get a job.

Really good teachers and facilities.
Placements: No one was placed in our batch or the previous one. There is no placement in our college. You just have to study well and opt for an internship. You have to gain experience and do well in your internship and the rest is on your hard work. .
Infrastructure: Facilities are excellent in our college. There is no Wi-Fi but the labs, classrooms, and library are excellent. You can get almost any book from the library.
Faculty: The teachers are very knowledgeable and the teaching quality is excellent. The teachers are very helpful, they ask if we understand the concept or not. They also make the students industry-ready by giving them practical knowledge. The semester exams are easy if u study well.

The college principal is serious for the growth of college.
Placements: Around 150 students were enrolled in my course. Not many packages offered or any at all. HRM companies like Aptask and other companies hire. 40% got an internship at PNB MetLife. HR manager, recruiter, and general manager are the top roles offered. Not many roles are offered by the college. My BBA through DYD has a fee of 11,500 per year. Top recruiting companies is dependent upon students capabilities.
Infrastructure: We have Wi-Fi, labs, smart classrooms, and an extensive library. The hostel infrastructure is very good; the hygiene, the food quality, the medical facilities—I don't know much because I only stayed there for 2 days because of the college campus; I don't stay in hostel otherwise. The canteen is top-notch, the service and everything are top-notch; sports and games are little consistent.
Faculty: Teachers are very qualified and knowledgeable, but not up-to-date and not very helpful; every teacher is only some teachers. Semester exams along with the T series exams are very serious. I mean, you cannot sit for semester exams unless you have decent credit/points as a student. Pass percentage, I must say is 70%.
Other: This course is very flexible through a new scheme of education called Design Your Degree under New Education Policy (NEP) 2020; that's why I chose this. I wish there were some more and more fruitful, practical, and time-fulfilling activities in my course. Events like the Chilai Kalan event, the Ramadhan Iftaar party, Republic Day, Independence Day, and the and the Entrepreneurship Program. Sports activities/extracurricular activities: cricket, football, basketball, and other sport activities are there.
