Chandigarh University Announces R-Tikaram Para-Athlete Sports Scholarship Worth Rs 1 Crore
June 28, 2021: Aruna Tanwar, the 21-year-old daughter of a driver and a BPEd student at Chandigarh University (CU) Gharuan, has been selected to represent India at the Paralympics in Tokyo in 2021. Aruna Tanwar, who is from the village of Dinod near Bhiwani, is presently ranked fourth in the world in the women's under 49 Taekwondo category and has won bronze medals at both the Asian and World Para-Taekwondo Championships in 2019.
During a news conference in Mohali, Dr. RS Bawa, Pro-Chancellor of Chandigarh University, announced this. Aruna Tanwar's father, Naresh Tanwar, and her coach, Ashok Kumar, were both present at the event. From 2021, Chandigarh University will offer a Rs 1 crore R Tikaram Sports Scholarship to Para-Olympians. In addition, 25 seats under the sports category will be designated for para-athletes, who will be eligible for a 100% academic scholarship, free hostel lodging, a specific diet, and training allowances.
“I started learning Taekwondo at the age of eight and participated in the regular category for the next eight years,” Aruna told the media. “I was judged ineligible to compete at the international level in 2017 owing to a malformation in both hands, therefore I changed to the Paralympics category.” Aruna expressed her delight at the prospect of representing India at the Paralympics in Taekwondo, which is making its Paralympic debut this year. She is one of 72 taekwondo athletes representing 37 countries competing in the Paralympics. “I became frustrated after missing my World and Asian qualifier in Jordan because of a travel ban imposed by the Pandemic in April 2021. After examining my prior accomplishments at Asian and World Taekwondo Championships, the World Taekwondo and International Paralympic Committee offered me a wild card entry to Tokyo 2020, which was a miracle for me,” Aruna Tanwar remarked.
“In Tokyo, Aruna will face challenges from players from Ukraine, China, and Chinese Taipei, and I am convinced that she will win a medal by defeating all of them,” said Ashok Kumar, Aruna's trainer and coach at the Indian Camp for Para-Athletes. Aruna is currently working very hard to improve her strength and flexibility in preparation for the Tokyo Paralympics, which will be held from August 24 to September 5, 2021, according to Ashok Kumar.
CU Student Aruna Tanwar Becomes The First Indian Para-Taekwondo at Tokyo Paralympics
June 15, 2021: Aruna Tanwar has carved a name for herself in the world of Para-Taekwondo as a two-time World Champion. She is the first Indian Taekwondo athlete to compete in the Paralympics. With her performances in the realm of Para-Taekwondo, Aruna Tanwar has personified will, determination, and hard effort. She is the daughter of a factory driver and part-time farmer, Naresh Kumar.
Aruna, a Chandigarh University (CU) student, has always strived to achieve greater heights in athletics. Tanwar, who was raised in the Haryanvi village of Dinod, excelled in athletics and martial arts. Despite having three fingers on each hand and palms that were not fully formed, she wanted to learn martial arts.
Aruna assured that no physical handicap would keep her back, thanks to her parents' steadfast support. Despite her lack of financial resources, Aruna's parents' support inspired her to accomplish better. She participated in the General category and won medals in the 38 kg class before switching to the Paralympics due to her weight category not being accessible in international competitions.
Tanwar went on to win medals at a number of international competitions following that, including a Silver medal at the 2018 Asian Para-Taekwondo Championship in Vietnam and a Bronze medal at the World Championship in Antalya, Turkey. The 21-year-old is now ranked No. 4 in the world in the women's U-49 category, is a five-time National Champion, and has placed on the podium in Asian and World Para-Taekwondo Championships in the last four years.
Tanwar had been the first Indian para-taekwondo player to be picked for the Qualification Round in Amaan, Jordan, after dazzling everyone with her amazing performances over the previous few years. She was pleased when she learned of her selection, but her joy was short-lived due to a Travel Ban imposed by Covid-19, which forced Indian players to miss the Qualification Rounds in Jordan.
Aruna's disappointment at missing the Qualification Rounds in Jordan virtually ruled out India's first-ever participation in Para-Taekwondo at the Paralympics. Her disappointment was quickly replaced by joy when World Taekwondo and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) extended the Bipartile Commission Invitation for the Tokyo Paralympics.
Tanwar was one of eight athletes to be invited to Tokyo by the Bipartile Commission. The IPC extends such invitations in agreement with the sport's world governing body for athletes who, among other things, have lost the opportunity to qualify to owe to unforeseen circumstances. As a result, Aruna and India will be among 72 competitors from 37 countries competing in Para-Taekwondo, which will make its Paralympic debut in Tokyo.
Aruna Tanwar, a Chandigarh University student, will now represent India at the Tokyo Paralympics, which will take place from August 24 to September 5.

The CU COVID CARE hotline will include a team of experts, including medical professionals and psychiatrists, accessible to provide counseling and medical support to Covid-19 patients. In addition, the toll-free helpline will offer tele-mental health counseling to students who are experiencing anxiety as a result of the country's second coronavirus outbreak.
Dr Sandeep Chopra, DM Cardiologist, Fortis Hospital, said during the inaugural ceremony of the CU COVID CARE hotline, "On various social media platforms, we have found that there are unsubstantiated ideas concerning Covid treatment, medicines to be administered, and tests to be performed. If you have Covid-19-related critical disease, self-medication can be lethal." Dr Chopra stated, "One should be in touch with a medical specialist or family physician under whose prescription and care crucial medications like steroids should be administered."
Dr Sandeep Chopra stressed the importance of a high-protein, high-carbohydrate diet, as well as enough of fluids, for a quick recovery from the Covid-19 infection. "We have numerous vaccines available," Dr Sandeep said of the immunisation, "but it is crucial that one receive both the doses of the same vaccine and that too within the allowed time-gap between the doses." "It's critical for the average person to understand that vaccination takes at least two weeks after the second dosage to provide adequate immunity and that until then, one must follow all of the government's precautionary precautions," he added.
The University of Chandigarh is involved in a number of efforts for the welfare of the general public, particularly those who are impacted by the coronavirus. The university has opened a 100-bed COVID CARE facility on campus as part of its CU-AID programme. Furthermore, the university provides free ambulance service for Covid patients from adjacent communities, as well as free hand sanitizers in rural areas.

The score is valid for three years from the date of the result announcement. In addition, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) consider the Gate score in their recruiting processes.

He went on to say, he never attended to any coaching sessions or received tuition to prepare for GATE 2021; instead, he used to revise his notes every day and refer to previous year's books. Sachin claimed that he got support for the test from his professors, friends, and primarily the Internet, and that he used one hour each day for GATE study at first, but that this was increased to 6 to 8 hours as the exam neared. Sachin added that instead of learning methods and shortcuts, students should focus on improving their fundamentals while sharing his success mantra and offering advice to other students who want to take the exam again.

While it took India 100 years to adopt and enforce the Right to Education (RTE) as a constitutional right, it opened up new avenues and opportunities in the developing world, offering the requisite forum for women to be empowered. “Women today have dismantled the social constraints and oppression that the society had placed on them,” Justice Kant continued.
