Pursuing B.E./B.Tech at Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya: Is it Worth It?

Based on the reviews and feedback from current students and alumni, here's a summary of the pros and cons:

    Infrastructure and Facilities:
    * Good infrastructure, with newly constructed buildings and Wi-Fi availability across the campus.
    * Central library and departmental libraries with a wide range of books.
    * Hostels with comfortable accommodations and good mess food.
    * Sports facilities are limited.

    Faculty and Teaching:
    * Helpful and knowledgeable professors, many of whom hold PhDs from renowned institutions.
    * Curriculum is relevant and prepares students for industrial requirements.
    * Semester exams are moderately difficult, with a pass percentage of around 80%.
    * Limited access to practical classes and lab sessions.

    Placements and Internships:
    * Placements are relatively low, with an average package of INR5-6 LPA and the highest package of INR35 LPA.
    * Fewer job opportunities available for non-CS/IT branches.
    * Around 50% of students get placed annually.
    * Internship opportunities are available, but limited.

    Student Life:
    * Campus life is vibrant, with regular events and festivals.
    * Canteen food is average, and sports facilities are limited.
    * Student associations and clubs are active, offering opportunities for personal growth.

    Overall Assessment:
While Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya has its strengths, particularly in terms of faculty and infrastructure, the placement record is a concern. Students may struggle to find suitable job opportunities, especially outside of CS/IT branches. However, the university's commitment to providing relevant education and internship opportunities is commendable. Ultimately, whether or not it's "worth" pursuing a degree here depends on individual goals and expectations.

Q:   How does the placement cell for B.E. / B.Tech at Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya assist students in getting placed?

    A:
    {Source: B.E. / B.Tech students & alumni}

Placement Cell Assistance for BE/BTech Students at Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya

Unfortunately, our placement cell is not functioning effectively, and most students rely on off-campus placements, internships, or pursuing higher education (MS/MBA). Few students from CSE and IT branches had limited placements last year.

    Here are some key findings:

    * Limited Placements: Only a handful of students get placed annually, mainly in coaching institutions like Allen, Vibrant, and Career Point as faculty.
    * Low Salary Packages: Average salary packages offered are around INR2-3 Lacs per annum.
    * No Industry Exposure: The college does not provide industrial visits or projects, making students less industry-ready.
    * GATE Exam Focus: Most students focus on clearing the GATE exam to secure PSUs or IITs/NITs for further studies.
    * Internships Mandatory: Third-year students are required to participate in internships, which often lead to full-time employment offers.
    * Placement Cell Issues: There is a lack of cooperation from faculty members, and the placement cell seems to be ineffective in securing job offers for students.

These challenges emphasize the importance of self-preparation and exploring alternative options for students seeking career advancement.

An honest review of Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya.
Placements: The details about placement, the highest placement, and the average salary package offered are not shared officially. However, the sources I know say 12 LPA was the highest salary package offered. The information about internships and roles in internships is not shared anywhere.
Infrastructure: Talking about infrastructure, the department of engineering does not have a very good infrastructure as it is a government college. The internet connectivity in the college is really poor. The labs are well organised and set up and have the latest equipment and software. Classrooms are well-equipped with green boards, whiteboards, and a smart board. The seats of the classes are well added. The hostel changes yearly till 3rd year and out of them, 1st-year hostels have the best facilities and rooms. The food is not up to the mark in the mess but it's good. The sports facilities are really good with two basketball courts, three badminton courts, two volleyball courts, and kabaddi as well as a football and a cricket ground. Medical facilities are good as the college has a medical department where the checkup and dedication are free.
Faculty: Not all teachers are well knowledgeable but most of them are. The teaching quality is good for most of the teachers. The course curriculum is relevant too as it is according to the new education policy which, focuses on overall development of students rather than just making them ace in curriculum. The semester exams are not at all difficult and have a moderate level. The pass percentage is 33% to pass for a particular subject.
Other: I opted for this program because it represents a firm fusion with my passion and professional dream. The curriculum perfectly balances theoretical knowledge with practical applications, which helps me gain in-depth knowledge regarding [the specific subject/field]. Moreover, the course allows me access to experienced faculty members, state-of-the-art resources, and opportunities to work on real-world projects essential foundations for. One of the best things that this course does is stress innovation and collaboration. It encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills in an understanding related to dynamic needs in industries. The course has excellent industry connections, providing internships and placement opportunities with top companies, and ensuring an easy transition from academics into a professional career.

Best college from the point of view of infrastructure, fee structure, and campus environment.
Placements: Placement is not soo good but good. Many students get their placement at best packages, and many companies visit for placement. A placement cell is there which helps students to get placement. The maximum package students got is 50-60 lpa, and the average is 8 lpa.
Infrastructure: Best infrastructure at this fee structure. Layout and structure of the buildings are good. You will get the best labs for your experiments. Every department has its own labs, and there is a central library in which you will get books for all subjects.
Faculty: Faculty are so good and have a helping nature. They help every student. As for the exam patterns of this college, that is also good because the university takes its own exams with no external interference, and their own faculty checks the copies of each and every student.

Inside Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya a central university .
Placements: Core branches received very few placements. Placement percentage is around 30%. Whereas non-core branches received above 65%. The highest placement was 55 LPA, the average was around 6 LPA, and the lowest is not known, but as per talks it was 3 LPA. Usually the IT sector companies are the top recruiters, but companies like Adani also come in as recruiters, but very few.
Infrastructure: Right now only 3 boys hostels and 2 girls hostels are there. For girls, even though it may be sufficient, but for boys, it is very less and only a few get it, but the infrastructure of the hostel and branches is very poor, and most of the equipment is not available. Even though funding comes to the university on a regular basis, development is very slow.
Faculty: Although most of the teachers hold high degrees, teaching is not that good, and exams conducted are not up to the standard; usually questions are copied for previous papers of IIT, and even while checking papers, teachers like to see the exact formulas they have used for solving the problem.
Other: Events are conducted on alternate years, and crowds are also okay, and campus life is also pretty good. Now and then some extracurricular activities are conducted.

    Good Infrastructure with Dissatisfied Placements
Placements: Being a student from civil engineering, we all know that placements are very poor for core branches. This year, companies like Thermax, Jhajharia Nirmaan Limited, and Adani visited. At Thermax, 3 students got a 25k per month package, and at Jhajharia, 5 students were placed. Many have opted for GATE prep, government jobs, or M.Tech.
Infrastructure: The hostel for 1st years is quite good, but senior students face issues with facilities. Regardless, labs, the library, and classrooms are quite good, with lots of books in the library that are sufficient for your engineering journey. The canteen is good, but the mess is okay (might have improved, but I can't say for sure). However, affordable PGs are available outside the college, with facilities depending on the budget. The sports and games facilities are good, with a huge playground available.
Faculty: Teachers are well-qualified and knowledgeable. Some are helpful, and some faculty members have good teaching quality. The course isn’t very effective if you want to be industry-ready. You will learn many things and experience a different environment in civil engineering, but getting a high-paying job with this course would be somewhat difficult. Speaking about the semester, it won’t be difficult to pass with a good percentage with proper knowledge of the syllabus and smart work, but scoring a 10 CGPA would be challenging.
Other: As a civil engineering student, there are many government jobs and services one can try. You will also enjoy the events and fest crowd, as it's a central university with around 30 schools where you can engage in various extracurricular activities and have a good social life. Scholarships from various states are given to students, and there are rewards for topping the entire university. There should be improvement in placements, as there aren’t many companies that come for placements with high packages.

    Placements with low packages .
Placements: For the 20-24 batches, due to the recession, very few companies came for placements. However, the data suggests that companies like Gemini, Infosys, and TCS offer the maximum number of placements. Still, students from this college do go for M.Tech with good ranks in GATE, as well as for other government services exam prep. The highest package is 6.5 LPA, and the lowest is below 2 LPA. For the 24 batch, there are companies that came with very low packages, i.e., around 1.44 - 1.8 LPA.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is recently built, so the classrooms, labs, and library are good. Wi-Fi facilities are available, but the range is not so good in many departments (this might have changed too). Speaking of the hostel, for 1st-year students, the hostel is amazing, but for the senior students, the hostel facilities are average. However, financially, it is cheaper and affordable. The mess, canteen, and medical facilities are good but not up to the mark.
Faculty: There are many amazing faculty members, but there are also some not-so-good ones. The faculty members who are amazing do help in various aspects, like providing career development opportunities. However, the curriculum does have some drawbacks as it doesn't make students fully industry-ready. But many clubs, like GFG, IEEE, SILICON SOCIETY, etc., are on duty, making every possible effort by organizing lectures, events, etc. In the ECE department, there is an initiative called the ECE Lecture Series, where alumni of the university visit and discuss their journey, their route, and all other opportunities that an ECE graduate student can pursue.
Other: There are various events, extracurricular activities, and an ambient campus environment with excellent connectivity with students from other departments, including law, arts, education, and commerce. The campus is surrounded by nature's beauty and diverse flora and fauna. I chose this course because I am not interested in the IT field, and the emerging industries of semiconductors and solar cells motivate people to choose ECE over other fields. If improvement is needed, it must be in the placement opportunities. Being the only central university in Chhattisgarh, there should be better placement opportunities here.

Ideal college for individuals residing in Chhattisgarh and seeking a Central University.
Placements: The university's placement and internship opportunities are severely lacking, with only a small number of students being able to secure placements in various industries. Furthermore, those students who are fortunate enough to be selected through the placement process receive disappointingly low salaries. Over the past few years, the average package offered to civil engineering graduates has been around 3 lakhs per annum.
Infrastructure: The university's infrastructure is comparable to that of other colleges and universities in Chhattisgarh. It boasts a spacious ground, two boys' hostels, three girls' hostels equipped with MHRD Wi-Fi facility, and a large central library. What sets the university apart is its extensive forest coverage.
Faculty: The instructors at Guru Ghasidas University are highly qualified, with a majority of them having obtained their degrees from either IITs or other reputable universities. These educators are known for their cooperative and supportive nature. In terms of examinations, the semester tests are not overly challenging, however, the passing grade is set at 50 percent.
Other: I have selected this course with the intention of developing my career within the field of engineering.
