Q:   Is it worth pursuing B.E. / B.Tech at Islamic University of Science and Technology?

A:
{Source: B.E. / B.Tech students & alumni}

Is it worth pursuing B.E./B.Tech at Islamic University of Science and Technology?

Based on the feedback from students and alumni, here's what you need to know:

* Placements: Placements are a major concern at IUST. While some students have gotten internships or jobs, the overall placement record is poor. Most students end up taking up higher studies or settling for lower-paying jobs.
* Teaching Quality: Faculty members are generally well-qualified and knowledgeable. They use effective teaching methods, making learning easier for students.
* Infrastructure and Facilities: The university has good infrastructure, with modern amenities such as high-speed internet, Wi-Fi-enabled areas, and well-equipped laboratories. The hostels are comfortable, with good food options.
* Course Curriculum: The curriculum is relevant to the industry, making students ready for the workforce after graduation.

However, there are some drawbacks:

* Placement Opportunities: The university lacks strong industry ties, resulting in limited placement opportunities.
* Fee Structure: The fees are quite steep, making it challenging for financially weak students.
* Sports Facilities: The sports facilities are subpar, lacking proper indoor and outdoor facilities.

Considering these factors, whether it's worth pursuing B.E./B.Tech at IUST depends on individual goals and priorities. If you're willing to take risks and adapt to the university's limitations, IUST might still offer a good educational experience. But if you rely heavily on campus placements or require top-notch facilities, you may want to explore other options.

Remember, every individual's experience will vary depending on their performance, course, and personal circumstances. This summary aims to provide an overview of the general pros and cons to help you make an informed decision.

I had a mediocre experience in the university.
Placements: Placements in our college are not much good. We are about to complete our degree but haven't had any comprehensive counselling on the opportunities ahead. Also, no distinguished company as such visited the college for placements. I'm still in the second last semester, so I don't know how to comprehend the placement policies and opportunities. Though our state does lack market and industrial exposure, it isn't anybody's fault in particular.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is good. Classrooms are airy and large. The labs, especially in our department, are below average and not extensive. Canteen is good, and prices are flexible. The canteen surroundings are tidy. I haven't been in the hostel, so I can't say anything about it.
Faculty: Faculty members are good. The course curriculum is okay. The student-faculty ratio varies from semester to semester. In our class, it is almost 60:1. We did go on a couple of industrial tours. The subjects listed in the curriculum are apt and appropriate. The timetable and class schedule varies. Sometimes, it's very hectic and you'd barely get a chance to breathe. Other times, it's flexible and spacious.
Other: We recently had a 2-day national workshop in our department. We are also going to celebrate a food day.

Dissatisfied with the changing rules, faculty and favoritism.
Placements: No placements are provided in the college. There is no placement cell present. The university isn't yet working on it, I hope the college will have a placement cell soon. As far as I know, a very low percentage of students got the job after their degree. The majority of the students are left without any job. The university should work more on placement cell so that the students can get placed on campus. No company visits the university for placements.
Infrastructure: The college infrastructure isn't good enough. The university is still upgrading its infrastructure, it will be good within a few years. Currently, no proper facilities are available for students.
Faculty: The faculty in our college are average. The course curriculum is updated every year. The college needs to work on the faculty. The experienced faculty are needed, as the majority of the faculty present are not good enough. Favouritism should end. Many new faculty members are required to provide proper education.
Other: The campus crowd is good. Very few fests are conducted in the college. The campus connectivity is good. Surroundings are good. Though a few extracurricular activities are conducted, they are good.

IUST infrastructure is really good, located at a very good place, placements not so good.
Placements: Around 60 students were placed in my course. Around 31,000 Nestlé, Coca-Cola, ITC, 2-3% in Nestlé, Coca-Cola, Food Director. A lot of students couldn't make it to top companies because of the non-availability of seats. Only a few students were able to make it to top companies.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure was good. The hostel was good, but the food available was not good. Games were good, medical facilities were good, and sports were very good. They took us to various colleges for different competitions and events. The overall experience with the college was good.
Faculty: Yes, teachers were very helpful and qualified. Semester exams were very difficult. During exams, we had a really tough time, sleepless nights, and the stress was unbearable. We used to have very little time between the papers, but in the end, we are thankful we made it through.
Other: It was my father's choice about this course. I would like to read more about food and the basic things related to it. All the events and the campus crowd were excellent.

It is still developing and needs a lot of changes to be done which I am sure are happening.
Placements: I am still studying, so there is time for the placements for our batch. I know a few seniors who have not got any placement through our university. Students are working in various companies, but I am not sure that they are selected through university or just by applying individually after completing the degree.
Infrastructure: Our college has a good infrastructure, and it is still developing. It has proper classes, wonderful labs, and Wi-Fi connectivity for faculty and students. It has a huge library and sports area as well. Our university provides us the opportunities for different platforms like debating, workshops, etc.
Faculty: Faculty members are talented, and they teach us very well. They make sure everybody understands the lecture properly, and if not, they repeat it twice in order to make sure everyone understands the lectures. They teach us in classrooms, labs, using board, projectors, etc.
Other: It does not conduct many events, but they organise workshops for various purposes.

Review of IUST - Islamic University of Science and Technology.
Placements: There are no placements through our university. Some of our seniors are working in multinational companies like Nestle, etc. Nowadays our college is doing a lot of work in order to make students know about industries and also organises workshops in order to aware students about the scope of food technology.
Infrastructure: There are the best labs all over Kashmir as far the food technology is concerned. There are good technical staff members. Classrooms have a good infrastructure. There is a library facility and a dispensary for medical emergencies. There is a canteen and Nescafe on the campus. A gym is not available.
Faculty: A year ago, under the central government scheme, TEQUIP teachers were appointed in every department as well as in our department. All teachers are GATE qualified, and some of them are even Ph.D. holders from reputed institutions. This improved the education curriculum, and they introduced extra classes for GATE coaching. We also had a visit to various industrial areas like Khunmoh and Rangreth.
