BTech in Biotechnology course, often known as Biological Technology or Bioengineering is a UG-level program that spans a four-year curriculum with Engineering combined with the Biological aspects. It includes Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics as basic courses and elective courses in biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry, and genetic engineering. The programs offered by most of the Indian institutions related to the field of Biotechnology require the completion of the 10+2 (Senior Secondary Education) with subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as the main line of study. It is also noteworthy that some institutes set a bar in terms of the percentage in these subjects, which is mostly between 50 and 60 percent.

The Indian Biotechnology industry is on the verge of exponential growth nowadays, particularly in the sectors of Genomics, Bioinformatics, and Genetic Engineering. Earning a BTech in Biotechnology degree means that you will be qualified to work in numerous professional fields including pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, biorefineries, wastewater management industries, and the food processing industry. Bioentrepreneurship is thus emerging as an exciting possibility for graduates to set up their own biotechnology ventures.

National level examinations such as JEE main for admission into the first year of BE/BTech & BTech Biotechnology; state level examinations, MHT-CET for Maharashtra & UPSEE for Uttar Pradesh admissions are required for admission into BTech Biotechnology and others are certain University Engineering Entrance tests. Some of the best BTech Biotechnology colleges are IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras etc, IIT Hyderabad, IIIT Delhi, IIIT Hyderabad, NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, NIT Surathkal, IISER Pune, IISER Mohali, BITS Pilani, VIT University, Chennai, etc.
