Q:   How does the placement cell for B.A. at Jadavpur University assist students in getting placed?

    A:
    {Source: B.A. students & alumni}

Placement Cell for BA at Jadavpur University

    * Although there is no compulsory placement system in the Arts faculty, there is a Placement Cell that informs students about placement opportunities.
    * Through the Placement Cell, students can get information and notifications about job openings.
    * Some students participate in internships with reputed companies, while others choose to pursue higher studies.
    * Even though there aren't many placement opportunities specifically for BA students, some students are able to secure jobs or internships through the Placement Cell.
    * The university helps students prepare for placement-related exams and interviews.
    * Companies, such as PWC, also visit the campus for recruitment purposes.

Note: While the Placement Cell exists, the lack of dedicated placements for Arts students is a concern raised by some students.

A university where quality education meets low fees and excellent faculty.
Placements: You can sit for placements only after completing a Master's from this department. The highest placement this year was 16.45 lacs, and the average was 10.4 lacs. Many renowned companies hire directly from this department, like Deloitte, HSBC, Citibank, KPMG, and TCS.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is not that good compared to private universities. But keeping in mind the fees you pay, it's average. The toilets remain mostly unclean, and the Wi-Fi is inconsistent. The classrooms in our department are good, with air conditioning. There are two computer labs and a departmental library.
Faculty: The faculty is excellent; each member is renowned and the best in their respective field. They are very helpful, and the Ph.D. scholars also help when you face difficulties. The course is rigorous but the best in the whole state. You need to sit for a 10-mark exam every Monday, and there are two semester exams conducted every year.

Exploring Jadavpur University, A blend of thinking.
Placements: On average 90% of students get placements. About 18 LPA is the highest paid and 2.4 LPA is the lowest paid. Many companies come here to hire students. Many students got intern about 90% of students get internships. WBCS officer is the most common role in our department.
Infrastructure: There are free Wi-Fi for students. The hostel in the main campus is too good but the main hostel is a little problematic due to ragging. But the campus is eco-friendly and helpful. The classrooms and library are awesome. Every department has its library also there is a Central Library.
Faculty: Courses are really good for thinking and personal development and also societal development. Of course, the courses are curriculum relevant. Students learn here a lot. Semester exams are quite difficult but if you research properly and study you will get it.
Other: I have chosen this course because of its identity throughout the World. It is a world-famous university and India's Top ranking university. There are many events and fest on the campus. Like Sanskriti, Ibtida and so on.

Your perception wouldn't ever be the same if you visit the college once.
Placements: The English department doesn't provide placements; rather, we can get recommended by professors, which might take us a long way. Being aware of the lack of it, the students are proactive in their approach—always seeking out opportunities and internships; the interdisciplinary nature of the department allows students to pan out in areas of filmography, journalism, curation, art, philosophy, writers, teachers, critics, even in mathematics if they choose to, founders of organizations, and much more. Our curriculum makes us very vocal and aware of some key factors for leadership and heading on in life.
Infrastructure: We have free Wi-Fi across campus, along with departmental libraries that are stocked with relevant books, journals, and articles. We have a central library and two other common libraries, which total around 40 libraries. Our classrooms have AC with projectors and boards. Hostels are very much up and running, but since I have not availed of them, I cannot vouch for their quality. So far as the campus is concerned, canteen food is quite decent, and the market outside the gate is booming with food stalls and other daily essentials. Sports is well practiced here, as our university actively ventures out to represent in many areas like chess, football, mountaineering, and hiking.
Faculty: The professors are extremely qualified and passionate about what they teach and are very expensive in their lives. This course curriculum is as relevant as it can get, being the first curriculum in post-independence India to have a post-structuralist and anti-establishment syllabus critical for coping with the current capitalistic and branching world so that we can have our own stand with valid philosophy. This approach is crucial for the "industry," as progressive and youth-led organizations, which are the future of this industry, are nourished by these qualities. The semester exams are very tricky, and it's difficult depending on how regularly one has attended classes, read the recommended material, and gone beyond the curriculum.
Other: I chose this course to be a professor in this field, and it was the right choice because of the unconventional and progressive curriculum topped with excellent professors. Interacting even with peers can provide a lot of connections and networking, as no one is sitting still and is active well outside the curriculum and campus. Same goes for professors. We have seminars, displays, debates, dramas, festivals, and calls from other institutions to perform all the time. Apart from that, we have our annual fest Sanskriti three times a year, along with some other fests held by the engineering faculty members.

    Thoroughly enjoyed the campus life.
Placements: Eligibility for placement is definitely to finish your degree without backlogs. Other than that, certain criteria were set up only by the company that was looking to hire. The students in engineering have massive placements where the package might even hit as high as 1.5 crore per year. The placement percentage is also around 90%. I am preparing for UPSC, so I didn't take a job.
Infrastructure: The classrooms had microphones so everyone could hear, and a smart class facility was also there. Our department has its own seminar room, which was utilized at its best because notable personalities used to visit often to interact with us. The hostel facility is vast at JU. There are more than seven hostel buildings on campus and one outside as well. I never stayed in a hostel, so I don't have a wider knowledge base.
Faculty: The faculty was the reason why I chose to stay at JU when I was a little confused between two universities. The faculty is top-notch, and the pros are extremely qualified and experienced. They have varied specializations (PhDs) and are quite approachable. The course curriculum is relevant if you want to stay in academics or are preparing for civil service. The difficulty of the semester exams depends completely on your preparation, as everything is covered in class, study materials are provided, and nothing out of the syllabus is asked.
Other: I chose this course because I thought it would help me with my further UPSC prep, and honestly, it did. The best thing about this course is the kind of reality you get to see. As sociopolitical issues are often unnoticed or not understood by many, I know how to look at things. This course gave me a perspective that makes me more aware than my peers, and for that I am grateful. The campus life is vibrant, people are social, and there are a lot of clubs and societies to engage in. The college festival "Sanskriti" happens three times every year (by three separate student unions). Campus has Wi-Fi, and when you become a student, you get a password. You can connect and work on as many devices as you please. JU has scholarships for categories like EWS, SC, ST, and others, but my knowledge regarding them is limited.

Satisfied with the infrastructure and education quality, the placement section has room to improve .
Placements: Jadavpur University is a prestigious university in India. quality education is provided here. Every year, technical background students get lucrative job offers. In Arts after B.A., the scenario is different in terms of placement except Economics. Those students who want to pursue higher studies will find the course highly effective. But companies do come and recruitment does happen. This year, students were also given the opportunities to sit for placement-related exams for several companies. Many students chose to do internships on reputed companies in the roles of content writing and others. PWC has come to provide us with a placement opportunity. After M.A. the placement cell helps to get good placements in reputed companies.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of classrooms and libraries is decent. You'll find yourself surrounded by valuable books in the library. Many of them are even published by the university press itself. hostel is also good. You can avail of a of a hostel at a very low price. All the facilities in the university are built in such a way that an economically weak student can get benefits from all of them. There is a medical center on campus and a big playground. Several canteens are present with good-quality food items at a very low price. Wi-Fi is also available.
Faculty: The teachers are excellent. They teach us very sincerely. The quality of education is very high. The course curriculum is, of course, relevant. You can't find a job unless you have good communication skills. An English major doesn't have that fear. And it also builds your analytical and reasoning skills, which are crucial for the market. You have to write the answers creatively, which is also important for the market. The difficulty level for the semester exam is high. You have to work hard and in a smart way to get a first division.
Other: I chose the course because I like to study literature. The best thing about my course is that it doesn't restrict your thought process. You get the opportunity to show and enhance your creativity. Several events and festivals are organised throughout the year where you can take part as a college student. But I wish that the placement cell in the arts department could improve.

Satisfied because of faculty and inclusivity, discipline could be better.
Placements: B.A. English is not a professional course but rather an academic one. Hence, placements do not take place. Most people pursue master's and PhD degrees before starting a job. Consequently, we are not offered any internships. It is purely an academic course.
Infrastructure: Given that we complete our entire course almost for free, the infrastructure is definitely up to the mark. The classrooms are not grand like those in newly built colleges, but they are air-conditioned and spacious. The libraries, both departmental and central, have almost all the books required for the course as well as for extra readings. Borrowing or xeroxing them saves the entire cost of buying books. Wi-Fi facility is also good. The food available in the canteen is pretty good and extremely affordable. However, most of the canteens do not have a place to sit and work, operating on a takeaway system. Plenty of sports and games are conducted, and many of our teams have represented the university at the national level and won accolades. The hostel is provided exclusively to those who cannot afford accommodation elsewhere because it is free or involves negligible rent. However, hostellers often complain about poor infrastructure and living conditions, so it is recommended to seek lodging elsewhere, especially because the cost of education is nil. Other than that, it is pretty great.
Faculty: The faculty is undoubtedly the best part of my college experience. Almost everyone holds a PhD, with many being alumni of esteemed universities like Cambridge and Oxford. They are extremely adept at what they do. The teaching methodology is incomparable. The classes are a joy to attend, without any exaggeration. They are mostly extremely helpful. The curriculum is beautifully designed, preparing us for future competitive exams while fostering an appreciation for literature. Since most of us end up in academia, industrial training is not provided. Instead, we are taught how to author and present research papers. The semester exams, while assessing our creativity and hard work, are also student-friendly. The pass percentage is around 97%.
