NTA UGC NET 2025: The NTA will release the UGC NET 2025 notification along with the application form on the official website at ugcnet.nta.ac.in. The UGC NET 2025 exam dates will also be released via notification. The UGC NET exam is conducted twice in June and December of a year. UGC NET 2025 Notification

Q:   What is the age limit for UGC NET exam?

A:
The age limit for the UGC NET exam varies depending on the category of the candidate. The National Testing Agency NTA which conducts the UGC NET exam, has set the following age limits for candidates: a) Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): The maximum age limit for JRF is 31 years as on 1st January of the year in which the exam is being conducted. However, there are certain relaxations in the age limit for reserved category candidates, as per the rules of the government of India. B) Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for candidates applying for the post of Assistant Professor. It is important to note that the age limit for the UGC NET exam may be subject to change from time to time. Candidates are advised to carefully read the official notification released by the National Testing Agency to know the exact age limit and other eligibility criteria for the UGC NET exam.

Q:   What are the minimum qualifying marks for the UGC NET 2024 exam?

A:

The minimum qualifying mark for the general category is 40% and for the reserved category is 35% for both papers. Usually, the UGC NET cutoff for the JRF is higher as compared to the assistant professor. Also, the difference between the cutoffs depends upon the difficulty level of the exam. 

Q:   Why I am not qualified for the UGC NET exam for assistant professor after securing the minimum marks?

A:

The candidates need to qualify for both papers that are paper 1 and paper 2 in order to be eligible to qualify for the UGC NET exam. The candidates have to score a minimum of 40 per cent marks (Unreserved category) and 35 per cent of marks to qualify for the UGC NET exam. However, among the candidates crossing the minimum qualifying marks, the top 6 per cent of the candidates will be made qualified for the Assistant Professor.

The NTA will release the UGC NET 2025 notification for the June session on the official website at ugcnet.nta.ac.in. The notification will be announced as a PDF comprising the details of the UGC NET exam including the registration dates, application process, eligibility, pattern, etc. Candidates will be able to download the UGC NET 2025 notification for the June cycle by following below mentioned steps:

How To Apply For UGC NET 2025 June Session?

Candidates can check below the steps to apply for NTA UGC NET 2025 June session:

  • Visit the website- ugcnet.nta.ac.in
  • Click on the ‘Application form’ link mentioned at the bottom of the home page
  • Click on the ‘New Registration’
  • Enter the required details and complete the registration
  • Fill out the complete application form
  • Upload scanned pictures of passport size photo (10-200 kb) and signature (4-30 kb). Both images should be in JPEG format
  • Pay the UGC NET application fee (Gen - INR 1150; OBC/EWS - INR 600; SC/ST/PwD/ Transgender - INR 325)
  • Save and submit the form

Candidates who wanted to edit their UGC NET application form can follow the steps provided below to make corrections to the NTA NET application form:

  • Open the official website- ugcnet.nta.ac.in.
  • Click the ‘Correction Window of Online Application form …’ link
  • Login via using the application number, password, and security pin
  • Click on the ‘Correction in application form’ link
  • Read the instructions properly and click on the agreement box
  • Make the required corrections
  • Pay the additional fee, if any
  • Save and submit the form

What Are The Changes Allowed in UGC NET Application Form 2025? 

Candidates can edit certain sections of the UGC NET application form 2025. The changes which are not allowed in the UGC NET application form are given below:

What Is The UGC NET 2025 Application Fee?

Q:   If I have taken UGC NET 2024 Paper 1, will I be qualified?

A:

No. Candidates are required to appear in both UGC NET Paper 1 and Paper 2 to qualify for the exam. Candidates need to pass both exams separately to be considered for the position. Qualifying marks category-wise are mentioned below:

For General or Unreserved category: 40% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together

For PWD/SC/ST/OBC Non-creamy layer and Transgenders: 35% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together

Q:   How many attempts are allowed in UGC NET exam?

A:
There is no limit to the number of attempts allowed for the UGC NET exam. As long as a candidate meets the eligibility criteria, they can appear for the exam in any number of attempts. The UGC NET exam is conducted twice a year, and candidates who are not able to qualify in one attempt can appear for the next cycle of the exam. However, it is important to note that candidates must fulfill the eligibility criteria for each attempt and pay the application fee for each attempt separately. Also, candidates who have already qualified for the UGC NET exam are eligible to appear again for the same subject and category.

Q:   What is the criteria for qualifying UGC NET exam?

A:
The criteria for qualifying the UGC NET exam are as follows: a) Minimum marks: Candidates need to secure the minimum qualifying marks in both paper 1 and paper 2 to qualify for the exam. General category candidates must score 40 per cent aggregate marks in both papers. OBC NCL, SC, ST, and PWD category candidates have to secure 35 per cent aggregate marks in both papers b) Top 6% of candidates: In addition to the above criteria, the top 6% of candidates who appear for both papers and score the minimum qualifying marks will be declared NET qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor only. It is important to note that the UGC NET exam is conducted for two different purposes: to determine the eligibility of candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for Assistant Professorship. The above criteria apply to candidates who are appearing for the exam for Assistant Professor only. For candidates who are appearing for the exam for JRF, there is an additional criterion of age limit, which is 31 years as on 1st January of the year in which the exam is being conducted, with certain relaxations for reserved category candidates. Candidates who qualify the UGC NET exam become eligible for Assistant Professorship in Indian universities and colleges. Additionally, candidates who qualify for JRF become eligible for a fellowship to pursue research in their respective fields.

Q:   How many exam cities can I choose to appear for the UGC NET exam?

A:
Candidates can choose up to four exam cities in the order of their preference while filling up the UGC NET application form. However, the final allotment of the exam center will be done by the National Testing Agency NTA based on the availability of seats in the chosen exam cities. While choosing the exam cities, candidates should carefully consider the distance, accessibility, and convenience of the exam center. It is advisable to choose exam cities that are easily accessible and convenient to reach, as traveling long distances on the day of the exam can cause stress and anxiety. Candidates should also ensure that they are familiar with the route to the exam center and factor in any possible delays due to traffic or other reasons to reach the exam center well before the reporting time. It is important to note that the allotment of the exam center is subject to the discretion of the NTA and cannot be changed once allotted. Therefore, candidates should choose their exam cities carefully and plan their travel accordingly to avoid any last-minute hassles.

Q:   Can I apply for UGC NET if I have backlog in my post-graduation?

A:

The following are the requirements for UGC NET Qualification for programs leading to Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowships: 

It is recommended that candidates only appear in the post-graduation subject. Candidates may appear in a related subject if their post-graduation subject is not included in the UGC list of subjects.
Candidates are eligible for this test if they have completed a master's degree or an equivalent exam from a university or other institution recognised by UGC in the humanities (including languages), social sciences, computer Science & applications, electronic science, etc. with at least 55 per cent of the possible points (not rounding off).

What Are The Challenges Candidates Faced While Filling Out UGC NET Application?

Candidates face challenges while filling out the application form every year. Some of the challenges faced by the candidates are mentioned below so that they can check them accordingly.

Uploading Photograph & Signature: Candidates faces problems while uploading their photographs and signatures after multiple attempts. 

OTP problem: It also happens that after filling out the personal details, candidates don't get the OTP and automated registration number. 

Automatic Change in the Application Form After Submission: The particulars filled in by the candidates are automatically changed after the submission of the application form. 

Multiple Payments: The candidates are facing while making payments for the UGC NET application.

Candidates can also check the solutions for the challenges that the candidates faced while filling out the UGC NET 2024 application form below:

Check the speed of the internet: It is advised that candidates should use fast internet or shall wait for a few days to fill out the application form because lakhs of candidates fill the application form at once and so server crash problem occurred.

Change in Application Particulars: It is also advised to the candidates to check the application form thoroughly before submitting the application form. If the application form is submitted by the candidate, then he or she has to wait for the correction window to make corrections if required to the application form.

Photograph & Signature: Candidates should check the dimensions and the size of the photograph and signature before uploading it because the platform accepts the photograph and signature in a given range of sizes and formats. If the size and format are correct, then the candidates are advised to wait for some time, as it will be a server error due to the slow speed of the Internet or a server crash due to high traffic.

Multiple Payment: Candidates are also advised to make several payments for the UGC NET 2024 application form. After making the payment, the candidate should keep the receipt of the payment and wait for 72 hours. If the payment status is not successful within the time limit, then mail the problem to the UGC NET help desk, explaining the problem in brief, and attach the payment receipt from your bank in the mail. 

UGC NET 2025 Eligibility Criteria

It is important for the candidates to check their UGC NET eligibility criteria to appear for the exam. Those candidates who will not fulfill the eligibility criteria for the UGC NET exam will not be able to take the exam. The UGC NET eligibility criteria is categorised into three parts: (i) Nationality; (ii) Educational Eligibility; (iii) Age limit. Check in detail about the eligibility for the UGC NET below: 

 Nationality Eligibility

Nationality plays a vital role as an eligibility criterion for the UGC NET exam because only Indian citizens can take part in the UGC NET exam. Citizens from other countries can not apply for the UGC NET exam. Also, candidates who are residing in other countries but are citizens of India can apply for the exam. It is important to prove Indian citizenship for the candidates who are residing in other countries with proper documentation.

UGC NET 2025 Educational Eligibility

Candidates should have completed their post-graduation from a UGC-recognised college/university. Minimum marks for General Category is 55% and for reserved categories including SC/ST/OBC/PwD is 50% marks. 

A relaxation of five per cent in educational qualification is given to reserved category candidates

Candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) before June 1, 2002, are exempted from taking the UGC NET exam

UGC NET 2025 Age Limit As Of 1/06/2025

In the UGC NET exam, there is no upper age limit to appear for the professorship exam, whereas for the post of JRF (Junior Research Fellowship), the candidates must be below or equal to 30 years of age. Also, the candidate must fulfill the other criteria as well to appear for the UGC NET exam. The details of the age limit criteria are provided below:

  • Candidates should not be more than 30 years of age to be eligible for NET JRF as of June 1, 2025
  • There is no age restriction to applying for the post of Assistant Professor
  • A relaxation of five years in age criteria is given to reserved category candidates

UGC NET 2025 Exam Pattern

The UGC NET exam consists of two papers, namely Paper 1 and Paper 2. The duration of the UGC NET exam is three hours. Both papers contain objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs). UGC NET 2025 Syllabus 

The syllabus of the UGC NET exam is prescribed by the UGC NET exam. It is divided into Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is a general paper that is the same or equivalent for all the candidates who are preparing for the UGC NET exam. It consists of the questions from the quantitative, research, teaching aptitude, and more. Whereas Paper 2 is subject-specific, it comprises questions from the subject that was chosen by the candidates while filling out the UGC NET application form.
