Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Can I get into JUIT Solan B.Tech with 70% in class 12th?

A:

Admission to the B.Tech course in JUIT Solan is based on merit in the entrance examinations or merit in the qualifying examination. Entrance-based admission to B.Tech depends on the All India Rank of the candidates in JEE Main. Merit-based admission depends on the candidates’ performance in their qualifying examination. For merit-based admission, the university will conduct counseling in the month of July. Candidates shall be informed prior and they will be allowed a choice of a maximum of three programs. The minimum eligibility for B.Tech is 10+2 with Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects. Therefore, it is not clear whether a candidate with 70% in class 12th can get admission to JUIT Solan B.Tech program.

Q:   Is JEE required for B.Tech at JUIT Solan?

A:

Jaypee University of Information & Technology, Solan was established in the year 2002. It offers 7 specializations under the B.Tech program, 4 under M.Tech, and 8 under the Ph.D. program. B.Tech is a full-time undergraduate programme of four years with a total of 510 seats. According to the official website of JUIT Solan, admission to B.Tech programme is through two modes:

  1. Valid JEE Main scores and merit basis (marks obtained in 10+2 examination).
  2. For Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, 50% of seats are filled through JEE Main and the remaining 50% through merit in the qualifying examination.

So, yes, JEE is required for B.Tech at JUIT Solan, except for non-JEE candidates applying for Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. I hope this answers your question.

Really beautiful campus with well-equipped labs and classrooms.
Placements: I am in my final year and placement sessions are going good. We are having more companies this time offering packages upto 7 Lacs. Our placement cell is quite active this time and is trying to bring more core companies for every field. They are also bringing non technical companies and this time the amount and the quality of jobs offered is quite high.
Infrastructure: We really have a beautiful campus with well-equipped labs, bank with an ATM, sports area and so on. Also the food provided is really good and the variety is good. Hostel rooms are spacious. Also the basic requirements are fulfilled. In my four years of this B.Tech degree I didn't face any infrastructure related issue.
Faculty: Teachers are quite approachable and they always helps us in everything and helps us in solving our problems. Also we were taken on industrial trips which helped us in knowing things in a far better way and observing them keenly. We visited CSIR with our faculty and got to know an overview of the things happening there.

Overall a decent college but loosing in some important aspects.
Placements: The university does not have a proper training and placement cell of its and works mainly under the T&P cell of its sister institute in Noida. Hence for most placement activity one has to go to Noida and the T&P cell there highlights its students more thus creating a bias. Also, most companies only come for CSE and IT branches and for other branches like ECE, Civil, BT & BI, companies are very less.
Infrastructure: The University has a great overall infrastructure. The department of Biotechnology has state of the art labs with very high-end equipment available helping students learn the latest techniques used in the field. The entire academic block is Wi-Fi enabled but in hostels still, LAN is used. All classrooms are equipped with projectors and computers to help in interactive teaching. Though there are not many big grounds in the university (because it's in the hills) still sports like volleyball, basketball, football, cricket, badminton, table tennis are played here. All hostels have a well-equipped gym which can accommodate around 200 students at a time. Food in the annapurna is of good quality most of the time with a good variety of dishes served for each meal but sometimes the quality of certain dishes becomes very poor but still, food remains edible. Hence overall there are no infrastructure-related issues that you might face in the university and if you do, the administration does help.
Faculty: The faculty of the university is highly qualified. In the department of Biotechnology, the faculty is mostly doctorate or post-doctorate from foreign universities or highly ranked Indian institutes like IIT's, AIIMS CSIR's etc. hence leaving no question to their knowledge and the quality of teaching. Teaching in the department of BT is practical focused and due to the availability of high-end equipment overall practical exposure is very good. The batches are not very big and have 30 students each thus making student-teacher interaction easy. Industrial exposure is a little less but they try to improve that through industrial visits. The course design is however very useful and exposes you to all major useful techniques that come useful in the field.
Other: Each year the university hosts an annual fest, a technical fest, sports fest and other events. In the recent, the quality of these events has come down due to lack of support by the administration. The university is located at a very beautiful location but there is no recreation around the campus so one has no option but manage with whatever is there on the campus. However, during the weekends, you can plan to go to Shimla or Solan.

The best university for an engineering student to grow and shine as an outstanding human being.
Placements: JUIT students have achieved many accolades on different proffesional platforms. They have good placements in reputed companies like HCL bio solution, Infosys, Wipro, L&T, Cognizant, Root Analysis, Grails and much more with the satisfying packages. Every year, 60% of the students are placed. The highest salary offered was 6 LPA by an IT company. The stipend offered by the university to the PhD and M.Tech students is Rs. 15,00O and Rs. 8,000 respectively. JUIT provides opportunities to the student to participate in an exchange program where they can complete their final year semester in Florida, Nebraska and South Dakota. Thus, the aluminies have earned top positions in research areas by competing with the other research groups from all over the country.
Infrastructure: The best ambience, located in the beautiful hills of Waknaghat surrounded by aesthetic nature and mesmerising flora and fauna with beautiful sunset and sunrise views. The best possible homely feeling that a student could get in the laps of nature. JUIT is ranked as one of the best top universities with the classified infrastructure providing the proper 24×7 Wi-Fi connectivity and medical facilities. The classrooms and the labs are highly equipped with graded equipment and highly educated lab technicians. Proper good lab practices are conducted. JUIT provides grounds and courts for basketball, football, volleyball, badminton and cricket. There are proper canteens, hygienic mess annapurna and restaurants with the best food quality. There are around 120 rooms in every hostel building, and there are 11 -12 hostels for both boys and girls and PG facilities are also provided.
Faculty: Every faculty in this college is highly educated and excellent in their curriculum field. The faculty of every department is helpful to every student. The teaching methods are exemplified as every teacher has his or her way of teching so that the student understands everything in the class. Extra classes, tutorials and the virtual lab practices are provided. Every year, biotechnology students go for industrial visits sponsered by the college itself. The course curriculum is useful to every student as each student studies everything that can be provided to the best of his knowledge.
