Q:   How successful is the placement cell in securing jobs for M.E./M.Tech students at NIT Silchar?

    A:
    {Source: M.E./M.Tech students & alumni}

Success Rate of Placement Cell for M.E/M.Tech Students

Based on the statements provided, here's a summary of how successful the placement cell is in securing jobs for M.E/M.Tech students at NIT Silchar:

    * Limited opportunities for non-CS branches: Unfortunately, the placement cell doesn't perform well for core branches, with only 1 or 2 companies visiting the campus during the reviewer's time.
    * Good prospects for Computer Science branch: In contrast, the placement cell performs better for Computer Science (CS) branch, with several software companies like Wipro, Infosys, Oracle, and others recruiting students.
    * No internship facility: The placement cell does not offer internships, which might affect the overall employability of M.E/M.Tech students.

Overall, while the placement cell shows promise for CS graduates, its performance is limited for other branches, making it challenging for M.E/M.Tech students to secure jobs outside of their field.

Placements: Around 70-75% of students are placed. The highest package is around 12-15 LPA, the lowest is 5-6 LPA, and the average is ?7-8 LPA. Top recruiters include TCS, Wipro, Qualcomm, and ISRO. Around 50-60% of students secure internships with companies like DRDO and BEL. Common roles include signal processing engineer, data scientist, and R&D engineer.
Infrastructure: NIT Silchar offers exceptional facilities, featuring modern labs, high-speed Wi-Fi, spacious classrooms, and a well-stocked library. Hostels are comfortable with necessary amenities, and the mess food is tasty and diverse. The canteen serves various snacks and meals. Medical facilities are sufficient, and sports options include various outdoor and indoor games.

Satisfied with the placements of the college.
Placements: This year, the highest placement record went up to 54 LPA, and the average was 13 LPA. Around 70 percent of students got placed this year. The top companies that visit our campus include Amazon, Microsoft, TCS, Snapdeal, etc. We can start applying for internship at any time. The internship that are offered are the Satyendra Nath Bose Summer Program, Digital India internship scheme, the Internship on VLSL circuit design organized by the ECE Department, etc.
Infrastructure: Hostel facilities differ for students of different years. For first-year students, two people are given a single room; the hostel allotted is clean and the rooms come with a bed. With a desk, a cupboard and a single fan, there are also some rooms with three people per room. Mess meal quality is average to bad, but if you have lived in PGs during your JEE prep, you would find it quite nice. For dinner, the non-veg menu includes four days of chicken, one day of fish, one day of egg, and one day of vegetables. And for lunch, it is vegetarian every day. For mess food, I can give you a subtle understanding: when I took admission, I weighed 63 kg, and after the first semester, I was 57 kg. Not all credit goes to the food but most of it is due to food. Other than hostels, finding rented rooms is quite tough as the college is on the outskirts of the town and not many good homes are available in the neighborhood.
Faculty: The faculty members are good at their places, and students are also good, but there should be some mutual understanding, like students should be considered 5 or 10 minutes late for morning classes and some of the teachers are very good at teaching and some are not. In honesty, I am an ambivert, so maybe sometimes I have talked to some teachers or interacted with them.
Other: Incandescence is the annual fest and Technoesis is the technical fest. Digitally, our library is Asia's second-largest library so everything is available. In normal classes, only green board and dusters are available. There are many grounds available in our campus but swimming pool is not one many them, and there is no light on cricket field, etc. Many students run social groups and clubs to explore things and many more, which helps to improve skills and explore yourself.

I am totally satisfied with the faculty members and fee structure.
Placements: In B.Tech, more than 75% of placements are offered, but in M.Tech, it is about 20%. Overall, the placements are quite good. For PhD students, here is a lot of scope for opportunities in foreign countries generated by our college authority.
Infrastructure: All the infrastructure and facilities are very good. All the hostels and academic buildings are good. The campus is spacious, and the campus is spread over 648 acres. The campus is lush green with water bodies within the campus. Overall, it is very good.
Faculty: All the faculty members are well-educated. They are all PhD qualified, so the quality of education here is very good. There are many experienced teachers here. There are also assistant professors who are also PhD holders, which I like the most.
Other: Overall, our college is above average.

It is a pretty good college, and you won't get disappointed here.
Placements: Placements in our college are not upto the mark in this stream and course as in rest of NITs. But they are trying to improve in this field. Top companies visit the campus with top roles but only for B.Tech placements mostly. M.Tech placements are a bit lacking and can be improved.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi and hostel facilities are up to the mark as any other institute of national importance. Labs are well-equipped. Food-related problems are also addressed properly, and the food is well served so that students of all ethnicities can coexist easily. Classrooms are also well-equipped.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are very well qualified and knowledgeable. The teaching quality is also good. The course curriculum is relevant and makes student industry-ready. If students want to achieve something, teachers will cooperate with utmost possibilities.
Other: Campus life is very good here, and apart from the two fests which are held annually, small events are going on throughout the year-round.

I am completely satisfied because of infrastructure, environment and faculty members.
Placements: Around 40% of the students from our batch got placed. The highest salary package offered is around 5.2 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered is around 2.5 LPA. Some of the top recruiting companies are L&T, WSP India, KEC International and TPF. Many students are qualified for the internships during the academic year 2019-2020.
Infrastructure: The institute is well-equipped with modern facilities and LAN connection throughout the whole campus. It has Asia's largest digital library. All required facilities are available in the hostel, but the quality of food is average except on Sunday. It has large playgrounds and many other sports facilities, including a health centre.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful during our tenure in the institute. They are kind, friendly, helpful and qualified from reputed colleges of the nation. They gave their best in imparting knowledge, and their teaching quality was good. This course curriculum is relevant, and students were ready to participate in any industrial competition and other challenges.
Other: I have chosen this course because I was much interested in gaining further knowledge on this course to carry out research and innovative projects.

Best college for North East students.
Placements: 90% students placed in B.Tech, and only CSE students in M.Tech. the lowest salary will be 20000 /-. Infosys, tcs, tata power, adani reliance etc. are the top recruiters. Students got GET post. the lowest package will be 5 Lacs to our course. 50% got internship.
Infrastructure: Facilities on paper are Wi-Fi, cafeteria, tea points, library, well-equipped instrument. Facilities in actual are poor Wi-Fi in department only and LAN with no internet in hostels and the worst food in cafeteria and less books in library. All facilities in college are poor and need development.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful and qualified and knowledgeable, quality is best, and they know how to tackle each student but some focus on Bengal students only, opportunity is for localities. Curriculum is relevant and students are not industry ready as they are not interested to learn things for industry.
Other: I choose M.Tech because of stipend and NIT tag, I learned new things in course.

Q:   Is it worth pursuing M.E./M.Tech at NIT Silchar?

    A:
    {Source: M.E./M.Tech students & alumni}

Based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, here's what you can expect:

    * Low Placements: M.E./M.Tech placements at NIT Silchar are not encouraging. While there are occasional visits from IT companies, the placement rate is low, especially for core engineering branches. Even among those who do get placed, salaries tend to be relatively lower (Rs. 2.5 - 5 Lacs).
    * Limited Opportunities: The college doesn't prioritize M.E./M.Tech placements, and students may find themselves competing for limited opportunities. Additionally, the course curriculum might not be industry-ready, making it challenging for students to secure jobs.
    * Scholarship Availability: On the bright side, scholarships are available for M.E./M.Tech and Ph.D. students, providing some relief for tuition fees.
    * Good Infrastructure: The college has excellent infrastructure, including well-equipped labs, Wi-Fi-enabled classrooms, and comfortable hostel accommodations.
    * Teaching Staff: Teachers are generally qualified and knowledgeable, but some students feel that they don't receive adequate industry exposure or guidance.
    * Campus Life: NIT Silchar offers a vibrant campus life, with regular cultural events, festivals, and sports activities.
    * Industry Exposure: Unfortunately, the college doesn't provide much scope for industry exposure, internships, or project-based learning, which might hinder students' growth and employability.

Considering these factors, while NIT Silchar may offer a good education, pursuing M.E./M.Tech without strong industry connections or placement assurances might lead to disappointment. Weigh your options carefully before making a decision.

Remember, these are general observations based on students' feedback. We encourage you to conduct thorough research, speak with current students and faculty, and assess your own goals and priorities before deciding whether NIT Silchar is the right fit for you.
