M.Tech. in Biotechnology - Batch of 2019
Offered by RGPV - Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya
4.2
3Placements4Infrastructure4Faculty5Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
I am satisfied with the quality of education provided by the college.
Placements: Placement drives are not conducted at our department, but most of the students from our batch are able to find positions in various institutes and organisations within a year of the completion of the course, in spite of the prevailing Covid-19 conditions. During the course, all the students got the chance to undergo internships from various places that helped them to enhance their skill part. At present, few students are doing a job in companies as reputed as Kashiv biotech. Other students either got a government job, or they moved out of the country for their PhD.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the department is well-equipped with all sorts of instruments like RT-PCR, GC, etc. It is well-maintained, and it also has a tissue culture facility. The hostel life was great, with single-room accommodation for every master student.
Faculty: All the teachers in the department are PhD holders. They all are very encouraging and helpful. They are ready to help at any point in time with everything ranging from helping out with any topic or providing their references for various positions. Classes are conducted interactively using Powerpoint presentations. Students are also made to give presentations on various topics and were accessed based on that presentation.
Other: At some time or the other, events keep on taking place inside the university campus, which is quite diverse in nature, and it can be anything ranging from a workshop on entrepreneurship or a Ted talk or a fashion show. The campus surroundings are beautiful. People in the city are great. There is no kind of aggression in the people. The campus is based slightly out of the main city, but it is very well connected to the city. One can get a cab to go out or can simply go to the main university gate and board on the city bus or an auto. It has diverse applications ranging from agriculture to health care. Improvements could be the inclusion of few more subjects like Bioinformatics, R programming, or any other better option related to genomic data science in the curriculum, and it would really boost the level of teaching in the department.

Our college supports every student to achieve their future goal.
Placements: The placement is good as compared to other colleges. Almost every student is placed whoever is trying for placement. In order to provide career opportunities in R&D. The school of biotechnology department has collaborated with different organizations like IITs, IISER, etc. They provide internships also which is very useful in the future.
Infrastructure: The college has good infrastructure, the classroom has a smart board and the library has many books. The college has WI-FI, advanced labs for biotechnology (SOBT department). Hostel facilities for girls and boys are also available.
Faculty: The faculty members are well qualified and helpful. The course curriculum was very well designed but for becoming industry-ready you have to make some effort. The difficulty level of semester exams is moderate you can easily crack them. You will get to learn so much through your college.

It is more than a degree college with niche experience.
Placements: Placements depend upon students, and the department can help you reach out at certain levels. Most of the students decide to go for high studies in top Indian universities abroad, where they can create excellence in the field. If students wish to pursue jobs, then they can start building a resume and applying before the course finishes.
Infrastructure: Classrooms for offline and smart learning are good, and the library and labs are well-equipped with instruments. The hostel is good, but the food is average. The university is huge and lavish, and each department has its own building, which is separated into the study, practical and administrative areas.
Faculty: The curriculum is well-versed and reviewed by top professors of India. Faculty members are good. Our college has a vivid exam pattern with 2 semesters of subjective and 1-year research work. You can opt-in department or outside as per your choice institute with some agreement. Extensive support from the department is a value addition.
Other: It is emerging with time, and there are many extracurricular activities on the campus.

It is the best institute for M.Tech in biotechnology.
Placements: HR representative roles are offered in renowned industries such as IPCA Lab Pvt Ltd Mumbai, Laurus Labs Limited, R&D Center Hyderabad and Stellar Gene Technologies Pvt Ltd New Delhi, and they regularly recruit students from our department. Some students are successfully working, while many of the students are pursuing PhD and post-doctorate in countries such as US, UK, Malaysia and UAE.
Infrastructure: It is the only institute in MP which offers M.Tech in biotechnology under DTE. State of the art laboratory and infrastructure facilities are available for students to study and do their research work. There is modern technology equipment such as microarray, DNA sequencer, flow cytometer, HPLC, GC, RT-PCR, along with the routine lab facilities. Lectures are conducted in smart/digital classrooms by showing on a smart display board.
Faculty: All the faculty members here are highly qualified and knowledgeable. Not only academic guidance, but also we get immense moral and emotional support from them from time to time. The assessments for students are based on seminars, quiz, group discussions and written exams where in-depth knowledge is tested.
Other: I chose this course entirely based on the high-quality facilities available in the department. The course offered here is the most affordable and one of the best of its kind in India. A number of activities like Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, gender sensitization, equality and sanitation, debate competition, etc., are conducted.

Take admission here only if you don't have any other choice for your masters.
Placements: There were no campus placements in our department. Companies do not visit our department for placements purposes. The same thing happened with the previous batches. Super seniors also did not get placed on the campus. I am also in touch with some alumni, and they did not tell about any campus drive. In our university, some IT companies visit for placements, but these are not related to our course. The college invites all the final year students of all branches for placements, and students who got selected in the placements are from computer science and information technology background because this is what these companies are looking for. Almost all students did their internships by their efforts and money. Students were offered with an internship in fields like management, finance, etc., but everyone refused it because those internships were not related to our branch at all. Seniors did their internship in IIT Madras, and they were sent by our head of the department. Their learning experience was not good there. So, from our batch head of the department did not send the students for research and development internship.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi facility is available at both hostels and college. The speed is quite good. LAN is also available. In the hostels, there are LAN ports in the rooms, but they were not started at that time. So you can arrange some LAN wires and make LAN accessible to your room. Labs are good, and many instruments like GC, HPLC, RT-PCR are there. But the main problem is maintenance. There is no such post as a lab technician in the department, so we did not use a lot of instruments. Many types of equipment are covered with dust because they are not in use for a long time. There is nobody to tell you about the machines working and functioning. The lab in-charge is a higher secondary graduate who is not related to biotechnology. Labs are not properly maintained, and it is very difficult to find the chemicals from the storeroom. All the chemicals are in the almirah, and inside that chemical reactions are taken place already. So the chemical storage area is smelly and hazardous. There are many practicals in the syllabus, but they will show you only 3-4 basic practicals during your entire semester. Classrooms are good, and air-conditioned classrooms are also available. There are two libraries, one is central, and one is departmental. In the department, there are many books for biotechnology, and you will also find the encyclopedias here. Many books for competitive exams like GATE NET, etc., are not available, but there are books from old editions. Overall, it is good. The central library does not have many books for biotechnology, and you will find some books rarely. You can not take your laptop and own books to the library for studies. The library does not Wi-Fi facility. You will get newspapers, magazines and aptitude reasoning books, so it is good for you if you want to prepare for government exams. The hostel is good. Single and double sharing rooms are available. Most probably you will get a single room which is very helpful for self-studies. The thing I love the most about masters life is my hostel room. Washrooms have water heaters. You will also get RO water in the hostel and mess. In the hostel, there are 2-3 playgrounds, and you can play football, cricket, handball and badminton. The table tennis room is also available. Mess food is good in the first month, and later you will get average and non-tasty food. Many times you have to protest about it too. There is an old hostel, and it is not so good. There is a doctor, and medical facilities are available.
Faculty: The course of biotechnology requires diversified teachers, but teachers do not have the knowledge of all branches of biotechnology. Almost 90% of teachers are related to medical biotechnology field. Almost all teachers are PhD holders, but not the NET qualified. Only two teachers are permanent, and the rest of them are guest faculty members. The unexpected thing is that the course is a technology background, but all the teachers are from M.Sc. background. Teaching quality was good by some teachers, but some teachers do not complete the syllabus on time. All the teachers have an ego. Teachers are partial in giving marks. They do favouritism too. The course curriculum is not flexible, and you do not even have elective subjects to choose from. Some key subjects are missing from the syllabus. The syllabus needs to be updated from subjects as it is too vast. The course curriculum is not relevant, and it needs to be improved immediately.
Other: You will find difficulty in doing the projects here. There is only one topic where give you dissertation. If you choose other topics, it will be on your head. Also, the institute has very complex terms and conditions so you may not be allowed by other research institutes. It is a major drawback that you are not totally free to do dissertation from your choice of the institute. The university is huge, but the department keeps isolate their students from the surrounding. You will not get informed by the faculty that what is happening in the university. You rarely get to know about the events which are organised in our department. Teachers will also not encourage to do such things they will always try to bind into the department. If you are self-aware and want to do things, then only you could attend such events although it will be very difficult if you get time for such things in your first year because they will keep you super busy in the quiz, tests, presentations, exams, etc.
