Very much dissatisfied with the placements, experienced facilities, and good infrastructure.
Placements: The placement percentage in The Gandhigram Rural Institute is very moderate, and only 50% to 60% of the students got placement every year. The last batch had 70 students and out of which 40 got placed in the chemical companies. They provide a minimum salary of Rs. 15,000 for everyone who got placed. Last year, along with the chemical companies, ICICI bank also came for placement program. The students who have got 90% and above in undergraduate course will get a stipend, and the amount is decided by the head of the department.
Infrastructure: The Gandhigram Rural Institute has a pretty decent infrastructure. The students are provided with Wi-Fi username and passwords for their academic purpose. There is a central library for all the department students, and each department also has its own library. The institute has a synthetic coated ground and has many sports activities like athletics, cricket, badminton, football, volleyball, basketball and many more. The institute has two canteens with low-cost food and three stationary stores. In our department, there is a smart classroom in which seminars are conducted. The hostel rooms are very good, and one room accommodates 5 to 8 students. I heard that the food is good in the hostel, but I haven't been into their mess hall since I'm a day-scholar.
Faculty: The Gandhigram Rural Institute has very good and experienced teachers. They all are good in teaching and clearing doubts. In my department, they are very friendly, and their approach towards a student is appreciable. We have a choice based credit system. Regular tests will be conducted in the class. In our department, we have 14 faculty members, and they are always available in their room. The syllabus is un-matchable with any other institute. I'm saying this with my personal experience. I was taken to industrial visit only for one time during my undergraduate period at the very same university. The books and materials are also available at the department library.
Other: My college has an anti-ragging committee. Everyday prayer is the must for all the students, and on every Friday there will be a separate prayer for each department. The college has a computer centre, and the students can use with their identity card. There are securities in every corner of the college to guide the students. The main thing is, the college is near a hill station, and lots of trees surround it.
