Q:   What is Chemistry in simple words?

A:

Chemistry is the study of matter; it examines its composition, characteristics, and behavior to determine how these elements alter during chemical reactions. As such, it can be regarded as a subfield of physical science, in the same category as earth sciences like geology, physics, and astronomy.

Q:   Is there any scope in the Chemistry field?

A:

Graduates in Chemistry courses can use their skills in a wide range of research sectors, such as Biochemical Engineering, the Chemical industry, healthcare, and more. Because there are so many distinct motivations to do research and so many various settings in which to do so, research careers are more varied than they first appear.

Candidates might work in a university where research and teaching are combined; in a pharmaceutical business where new drugs are developed and tested; or in a public-sector research institute where they can help ensure that the nation's healthcare system keeps up with new findings.

Q:   What distinguishes Organic from Inorganic Chemistry?

A:

Inorganic Chemistry is frequently referred to as nonliving Chemistry, while Organic Chemistry is frequently described as the Chemistry of the living. These broad generalisations have opened up countless research possibilities, yet they are not true.

The Arts and Sciences of working with minerals and ores gave rise to Inorganic Chemistry. During the middle Pleistocene epoch, researchers looked into such issues as how to transform naturally occurring materials, such as chert or flint, into tools and how to transform metal ores, many of which were composed of metal oxides, carbonates, or sulphides, into free metals.

Q:   Would opting for a Ph.D in Chemistry at the age of 45 be too late?

A:

In my opinion, it is never too late to start a PhD at age 45. Some I know started even at 50 years old and above although they had done well at undergraduate level and could have pursued graduate studies in their 20s or 30s, had not done so, because of various reasons.
Today many older people, of both genders are pursuing graduate studies at the older age of 40s, 50s and even 60s now. They can do that because there are:

  • Greater opportunities offered for people in their 40s, 50s and even 60s, to pursue Graduate studies such as Masters or PhD. Institutions will accept older students, and will also offer scholarships to them.
  • There are also more Online offers for Graduate studies and matured-aged students are accepted to enrol.
