Campus Insights by a student of Architecture.
Placements: There are no placements for the course architecture itself. Not just in VIT University but in all colleges. One has to find make our own portfolio and fetch for work opportunities by ourselves to the firms of our choice. The college will only help you figure out the process.
Infrastructure: The council of Architecture will approve the college only if the infrastructure is all set before the commencement of the college. The new building for the architecture block is just seen it's final stages and students moving into the building. The infrastructure provisions by the management are well done and maintained. Hostels are decent with every basic need fulfilled. Although, one cannot expect luxury and special previlage over having attached bathrooms. Hostels are maintained meet and clean.
Faculty: The quality or the standard one can expect from the architecture school of VIT University is average. The school tries to publisize itself with it's aesthetical looking models and works of students, but cannot really determine the standard of teaching from those aesthetically pleasing posters. Can we? Quality of education expected from teachers are not to level and seem very average. Ideally, an architectural school should prepare students and make them ready for office work and have some site knowledge. Here in VIT one can expect the reverse. The university will expect students to learn from their internship and not until then will the student be exposed to see how a brick wall is constructed or how a flooring is made or how a slab is casted. Faculty members are highly equipped to shower students with 100 presentation files rather than taking students to the construction sites which are happening in the own campus premises.
Other: Architecture as such is an interesting course. It helps one picture the world without an engineer's brain or a very monotonous interface. Bringing in more practicing architects and interactions and many site visits will help any student equip themselves with a lot of basic construction knowledge. The management of VIT and the campus is very active and very supportive. The college is lively and very student friendly if one can ignore the strict whistlings by guards asking students not to be too intimate or 'touchy' even if a group of boys/girls gather together. Not to mention about the seating facilities available in the campus outside classrooms. Campus is 'no-seater' friendly. No one is allowed to sit wherever they want except for classrooms. VIT is very strict about the safely of girls and Woodstock (a place in the campus for if trees. Locked with a GATE. ). They want to lock them up and shut their gates by 8. Boys and security guards will exercise privileges of staying out extra time.
