In a conversation with Shiksha.com, Dr R.J. Anandhi, Professor and Dean of Academics at New Horizon College of Engineering, Bangalore talks about “Aligning students’ ambitions with curriculum that will enable them to adapt their knowledge to the industrial culture.  NHCE emphasises that all labs in various disciplines have industry tags, apart from the 16 Centres of Excellence established in collaboration with Industry Giants. Also, the college offers value-added programs on the latest trending technology like DevOps, Ethical Hacking, Full Stack Development, Cyber Security etc. 

Dr R.J. Anandhi is currently working as a Professor and Dean of Academics at New Horizon College of Engineering, Bangalore. She is a PhD graduate in computer science with a specialization in Spatial Data Mining. She has a rich experience of 26 years in teaching.

 

Q1. What are the three things that your institute/college/university is doing that will enable it to differentiate itself from the competition?

     We at New Horizon College of Engineering:

Q:   Is New Horizon College good for BTech?

A:

During New Horizon College of Engineering placements 2023, a total of 109 recruiters visited and over 1,312 students got placed. For admissions to the BTech course, candidates need to fulfil the eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria for admissions is that candidate should have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination with English as one of the languages with at least 45% aggregate (40% aggregate for candidates belonging to Karnataka Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other Backward Classes (Category I, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B) in Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry/ Bio-Technology/ Computer Science/ Electronics/ Biology. New Horizon College of Engineering is an autonomous college that is affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). NHCE Bangalore is approved by the Government of Karnataka, AICTE, and UGC. New Horizon College of Engineering Bangalore is accredited by NBA (National Board of Accreditation), with A Grade by NAAC, and is ISO certified. New Horizon was established in 2001 and is ranked 121 by NIRF 2022 for B.Tech. New Horizon College of Engineering Bangalore, offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. courses to students across Management, Engineering, and various other streams.

Q:   Is BE available at NHCE Bangalore?

A:

BE is a four-year course divided into eight semesters. The college offers BE in seven specialisations, namely Computer Science, Mechanical, Computer Science (Data Science), Electronics & Communication, Electrical & Electronics, Information Science & Engineering and Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning. Candidates after completing Class 12 or equivalent examination with English as one of the languages with at least 45% aggregate in Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry/ Bio-Technology/ Computer Science/ Electronics/ Biology can apply for the BE course. In case of candidates belonging to Karnataka Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other Backward Classes (Category I, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the minimum aggregate for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% aggregate in the optional subjects in the qualifying examination. Class 12 with at least 45% aggregate in each subject is required for Management Quota.

Better placements for Current students

  • Aptitude and Reasoning Training enriched academic: Students in the prefinal year have the aptitude, and logical reasoning training as a part of the curriculum with periodic assessment for student preparedness.
  • Domain-based training: Technical training and periodical assessments on the core specialization areas like Java Full Stack, Data Analytics, Python, web development, etc.
  • Company-specific technical training: Training with respect to company-specific requirements like Pseudo Code Training, Problem-solving sessions. Enables the students to focus on a particular industry and excel in the same.
  • Soft Skill Development: Students are imparted with soft skill training to build up oral and written communication, working in teams and as disciplined individuals.
  • Personality Grooming: Industry etiquette training, pre-placement talks, brainstorming sessions
  • Resume Building and writing session to excel from the preliminary rounds. Guidance for creating a footprint in communities like Opensource, GitHub, LinkedIn, and Hackathorn platforms.

Q:   When is Karnataka PGCET Counselling scheduled for?

A:

Karnataka PGCET counselling is conducted every year for admission to MBA, MCA, M.Tech and MArch courses. Candidates who pass the Karnataka PGCET exam are eligible to participate in the documenty verification process. Those who get their documents verified are eligible for the centralised counselling for admissions based on Karnataka PGCET ranks.
