Overview

JoSAA 2026 Registration: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will commence the JoSAA counselling registration on June 2, 2026. The candidates who qualify JEE Advanced 2026 and/or have a JEE Main 2026 rank can register for JoSAA 2026. JEE Advanced 2026 qualification will be needed for IIT admission, and the JEE Main 2026 ranks for admission to NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and other GFTIs.

JoSAA counselling registration 2026 includes authentication using the JEE Main 2026 application number, candidate name, mother’s name and date of birth. Once authentication is done, candidates can login to the JoSAA online portal with their application number of JEE Main, the JoSAA password created, and the OTP sent to the registered mobile number and email ID.

JoSAA Registration 2026: Steps to Apply for JoSAA Counselling

Check below how to apply for JoSAA counselling 2026:

Step 1: New Candidate Registration

  • The first time registering candidates have to authenticate themselves with JEE Main 2026 details. Click on the link that says “New Candidate Registration”.
  • In the next step, enter JEE Main 2026 application number, date of birth, Mother’s name, and candidate’s name.
  • Submit the details and verify the OTP sent to the JEE Main 2026 registered email ID and phone number.
  • Create a new password in the next step for the JoSAA portal and proceed to login.

Step 2: Logging into the JoSAA 2026 Candidate Portal

  • The candidate will be redirected to the JoSAA candidate portal after registration.
  • Login with the JEE Main 2026 application number and the JoSAA password created.
  • Verify the OTP sent to the registered email ID and phone number.
  • Read important instructions and check the details like - personal details, JEE Main/JEE Advanced details/Ranks, gender, nationality, passing place of class 12 examination, and state of eligibility. If all details are correct proceed to confirm the registration. If not, then click on the ‘edit’ button.

The above two steps confirm the JoSAA registration process. Once done, candidates can proceed to choice filling and fill in choices of institute type, the name of the institute and the programme from the list displayed.

Documents Needed for JoSAA Registration 2026

There are no additional documents that need uploading during the JoSAA registration. All the data will be fetched from the JEE Main registration and JEE Advanced 2026 registrations of the candidates.

However, some important documents are to be uploaded to the JoSAA online portal by the candidates who are allotted seats for verification of documents. The list of documents to be uploaded after the allotment of seats is given below:

Q:   What happens if the documents uploaded during JoSAA counselling, JEE Mains and JEE Advanced do not match?
A: 

During the process of document verification in JoSAA, if there is any mismatch between the document uploaded earlier by the candidate JEE Main registration site, JEE Advanced registration site and the document uploaded by the candidate on the JoSAA portal, the offer of admission will be withdrawn. The candidates shall be debarred from further rounds of seat allocation. Thus, the candidate will forfeit the eligibility for admissions to any of the institutes through JoSAA. The decision of JoSAA on this issue shall be final and binding.

Q:   Is birth certificate compulsory for JoSAA counselling?
A: 

Yes. Birth certificate is needed to prove age in JoSAA counselling. But if you do not have the birth certificate, then you can upload Aadhaar card or Class 10 marksheet/certificate.

JoSAA 2026 Counselling Application Form: Important Instructions

Candidates must check the below important instructions for JoSAA registration:

  • Confidentiality of Password is solely the responsibility of the candidate and all care must be taken to protect the password.
  • Candidates are advised to keep changing the passwords at frequent intervals.
  • Never share your password and do not respond to any mail which asks you for your Login ID/Password. NIC/JoSAA does not request such information by email.
  • Your IP address will be monitored for security purposes.
  • Candidates should take care of the registration dates. If the registration is not completed within the deadline, then candidates cannot participate in the counselling.
  • All candidates should keep visiting the official website of JoSAA for regular updates.

Although the initial registration for JoSAA does not have any fee, a processing fee must be paid when a seat is allocated. This processing fee is included in the total seat acceptance fee, which needs to be paid by any candidate who receives an allotment for the first time in their specific round.

The following documents must be uploaded by candidates for online reporting and registration, whether for the NIT+ system or admission to IITs.

Q:   Is JoSAA counselling free? If not, how much does a candidate have to pay for it?
A: 

The filling-in of choices on the online portal is free of cost. The candidate must pay the seat acceptance fee before continuing with the JoSAA process till the end to avail the seat in an IIT or NIT. The documents uploaded by the candidate will not be verified unless the candidate pays the seat acceptance fee. General/Open category candidates are required to pay a fee of INR 35,000, whereas SC, Gen-PwD, ST, OBC-NCL-PwD, ST-PwD, and SC-PwD have to pay INR 17,500. The fees will be included in the semester fees once students confirm their admission.

Q:   Is there any age limit to apply for JoSAA counselling?
A: 

The age limit will be applicable as mentioned in JEE Main/JEE Advanced brochure and official website. There is no seperate age limit criteria prescribed for JoSAA counselling.

JoSAA Counselling 2026 Application Form Correction

At the time of registration on the JoSAA website, candidates will NOT be allowed to change their details, such as

  • Name
  • Father’s Name
  • Mother’s Name
  • Guardian’s Name
  • Date of birth

However, the all foreign nationals studying in any country including India or Indian nationals studying abroad have to apply for DASA counselling for admission to UG engineering and architecture courses offered at NITs, IIITs, SPAs and CFTIs. Admission will be based on JEE Main ranks as declared by NTA.

Q:   Am I eligible to appear for JEE Advanced next year if I do not join the seat allocated via JoSAA Counselling?
A: 

If you can not complete the JoSAA reporting process, you could go for the JEE (Advanced) the next year. You just need to fit all the conditions of eligibility.

Q:   What option should I choose to be considered for further JoSAA rounds while keeping my current seat?
A: 

If you have accepted a seat in a certain round and want to be appear for a seat of higher preference in any Institute then you will have to choose the option of ‘Float’. This will help you to reappear for seat. If you are given a seat of higher preference in subsequent round of JoSAA seat allocation then your earlier accepted seat will be automatically cancelled and you have to accept newly allocated seat. If you do not get higher preference seat in a subsequent round, then you will continue in the already accepted seat and you will also be considered for seat allocation in any Institute (based on your preference in choice list) in the subsequent rounds if you continue with the ‘Float’ option.

Q:   Till which date can I fill the choices in JoSAA counselling?
A: 

The dates for JoSAA counselling 2026 choice filling will be announced once the result of JEE Main 2026 is declared. Candidates can fill choices only during the choice filling period. Also, candidates need to lock their choices before the last date.

Q:   When will the JoSAA counselling begin?
A: 

The JoSAA counselling is expected to start in the first week of June 2026. Usually, the JoSAA counselling registration starts a day after the JEE Advanced result is declared. The official website for JoSAA is josaa.nic.in.

Q:   JoSAA choice filling deadline is already over. Am I allowed to make any changes in my choice list at this point?

Candidates cannot make changes in the JoSAA choice filling list after the choice filling deadline is over.

Q:   Can I participate in JoSAA counselling if I don't have 75% marks in class 12?
A: 

It is mandatory to have minimum 75% marks (65% for reserved category) in class 12 to take admission in IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Students should apply for JoSAA conselling only if they fulfill all conditions of eligibility. However many institutes admit students on basis of JEE Main where there is no requirement of minimum marks in class 12. 

Q:   Is JoSAA counselling only for engineering course?
A: 

Yes. JoSAA counselling is for engineering courses primarily. However, seats in courses like B.Sc, B.Arch, and BPlan is also allotted via JoSAA counselling. Via JoSAA counselling candidates are allotted seat in varios UG engineering courses offered by the IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs. The allotment is done based on JEE advanced scores to the IITs and via JEE Main scores in other participating institutes. The courses offered via JoSAA counselling includes:
