B.E. in Computer Engineering - Batch of 2017
Offered by Goa College of Engineering
3.4

Learnt more about life than how engineering works.
Placements: Placements in the college for our batch was below average. Only students of ECE and CS/IT background get the majority of the jobs. The highest package offered by Microsoft was 12 LPA. The average package offered was around 3 LPA. Only students who had 60% aggregate marks got placed, and a majority of the remaining students didn't get campus placements. Regarding internships, college does not have enough time to provide the internships for students. There is two weeks time between semesters to do an internship. College also doesn't help much to the students for getting good internships.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is old but decent. Majority of the equipment works as expected. There is a good internet connection in the labs, but many times, it is underutilised due to the lack of interest from faculty/management side. Food in the canteen is average. There are other small joints for food in the college. Hostel rooms are relatively small and overfilled.
Faculty: Most of the faculty members are helpful, and almost everyone has the minimum required qualification. In most of the cases, there is a huge disconnection between the industry and knowledge. Teaching methods are the regular lecture types. They give lots of assignments which is a waste of time. There was hardly any industry experience, and the curriculum seems outdated and irrelevant.
Other: The college thrives on the student community, and it is a beautiful campus. Lots of non-academic activities are going on throughout the year. There is a huge potential to stand out, showcasing your talents in various clubs or management by joining the student bodies.

College life and infrastructure are good.
Placements: Every year, placements are very good for every batch. The highest salary offered for the students of our batch was around 8 LPA. Every year, companies like IVP, Infosys, Persistent Systems, etc., visit our college to offer placements. There is a placement cell in the college, and it tries to get many placements for our students.
Infrastructure: All the labs are equipped with all the necessary instruments. Quality of food in the canteen is good enough. Hostel rooms are also okay. Sports facilities such as basketball court, badminton court, table tennis tables, and a big playground for playing football are available in the college.
Faculty: Teachers in the college were qualified and knowledgeable. Some teachers focus was more on practical concepts rather than theoretical. Every year, there will be around 70 students per batch. Course curriculam was a bit outdated. Some teachers were very good.

Satisfied with the college, but it could have been better.
Placements: The placements in the college were okay for our batch. The placement percentage of our batch was less compared to our senior batch. Nearly, 10 companies visited the college for placements. Generally, on an average, reputed companies hire 1-2 students, and the smaller ones hire 4-5 students. The highest salary package offered was 12 LPA, the lowest package offered was 1.5 LPA, and the average offered was in between 3.5 LPA to 4 LPA. Generally, roles such as associate software engineers and associate consultants were offered to the placed students. The placement cell in the college is efficient.
Infrastructure: Overall, the infrastructure of the college was okay. Some departments like electronics, IT, and mining have excellent infrastructure, while the others lack the basic facilities. Some labs had lesser working computers; as a result, we had to share computers while coding. Quality of food served was decent, and the price was also decent. Hostel rooms were good, but they were too small especially the girl's hostel.
Faculty: Teachers in the college were quite helpful and very approachable. The teaching quality was okay. Some were smart, but couldn't put many efforts in sharing the knowledge with the students. The student to faculty ratio was 15:1, and it was quite decent. Industry exposure was less. The course curriculum was useful.
Other: The college organises a lot of events department wise and also inter-college. We had a lot of opportunities to participate in a huge number of events that took place in the college. Sports activities are also quite frequent.

Satisfied by the efficiency and dedication of staff, but somehow dissatisfied by the clean.
Placements: The placements are good on the campus. Many IT companies visit the campus for the placements. There have been lots of placements in recent years in the streams of mechanical, ENE, computer, IT, etc. The well-reputed companies visit the campus for the placements to recruit the students. Last year, the number of placements for IT branch was the highest.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is good but can't say it is better because the college is 50-years old. We expect some cool and amazing infrastructure, which is unfortunately missing, but from the last year, there has been an improvement in that also as today, we can see some construction of new buildings, etc.
Faculty: The faculty members are good and helpful to the students. The teachers help in every possible way in the studies that they take free extra lectures also for the lagging students. Even the non-teaching staff is also helpful. Also, the course curriculum is updated and completed in the given time.

There are no good placements. One of the best colleges in Goa. The college fee is very less.
Placements: The placements are not very great in this college. Hardly 20% were placed. The highest package offered was 5 LPA. Average package offered was 3 LPA. The lowest was 2.5. Very few companies like Infosys, Tech Mahindra, persistent systems came for the placements. There were no placements for branches other than IT, computer science and electronics.
Infrastructure: The buildings are very old. The interiors are maintained well. There is a gymkhana for games. There is a basketball ground. The whole campus is very large, so there is a lot of space to play. Wi-Fi is available in all the departments. The library is having all sorts of books where you will find every book that you need.
Faculty: The course syllabus has been modified recently and upgraded to reach up to the mark. The senior faculty members are very good. They have a lot of knowledge. The newly joined faculty members are not very knowledgeable. They don't use any teaching methods. They just teach on the blackboard and conduct practicals.
