On Cutoffs

Q:   Can I get into Heritage Institute of Technology with 70% in class 12th?

A:

Whether you can get into Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT) with 70% in class 12th depends on several factors:

Program: Cutoffs vary significantly between B.Tech programs at HIT. Some, like Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), may have much higher cutoffs than others.

Admission Quota: Depending on the program, you'll need to consider the admission quota you're applying under. Each quota (WBJEE, JEE Main, Management) has its own cutoff rank.

Category: Your category (General, OBC, SC, ST, PwD) also plays a role. Cutoffs are usually lower for reserved categories.

Examination scores: While class 12th percentage might be part of the eligibility criteria for some programs at HIT, your actual admission depends on your score in WBJEE or JEE Main, depending on the quota you choose.

Therefore, with just 70% in class 12th, it's difficult to definitively say whether you'll get into HIT. However, it's certainly not impossible. Here's what you can do:

  • Identify your desired B.Tech program: Research the cutoff trends for that specific program,  considering your category and preferred admission quota.
  • Check previous year cutoffs: The official website of HIT provides detailed information about past cutoff ranks for different programs and categories. See if your 70% in class 12th translates to a potential rank within the previous cutoff range.
  • Analyze your exam scores: If you've already taken WBJEE or JEE Main,  your score plays a critical role. Check if your score aligns with the expected ranking needed for your preferred programme and quota based on historical trends.
  • Consider other options: Even if you fall short of your first choice,  HIT offers several B.Tech programs with potentially lower cutoffs. Explore alternatives that align with your interests and academic strengths.

Remember, admission to HIT is competitive, and a 70% in class 12th alone may not be sufficient. However, a combination of good exam scores and strategic application choices can still increase your chances.

For a more accurate assessment, I recommend you check the official HIT website and explore specific programme cutoffs and admission criteria based on your desired quota and category.

The college story - Only facts.
Placements: About 75% of students get placed approximately. The lowest salary package offered is around 3 LPA or 3.5 LPA. The average salary package offered is 5 LPA. The highest salary package offered is around 10 LPA - 11 LPA. Companies like TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, Tejas, and many more visit the college. For internships, you have to apply online.
Infrastructure: The course is for four years. It is quite good, but you have to learn many extra things in which you can take the help of faculty. I have taken a private hostel. I do not stay in the college hostel. Rules are almost the same. You can enjoy your college life very well. There is a nice campus.
Faculty: Teachers are quite helpful in some fields. Otherwise, there are seniors from which you can get help with any problem. The course curriculum is a bit old but relevant. Earlier, I also said that you have to learn on your own. Semester exams are a bit tough. The passing percentage is 34% out of 100%.
Other: I got a rank according to the WBJEE exam, so I got a CSE branch. It is quite a good decision. There are many cultural events and sometimes fests also. So, you can enjoy it. The crowd is also nice and full.

Value for money, good placement, good infrastructure.
Placements: About 80% of students have been placed in the B.Tech. CSE course. 16 lakhs, 4 lakhs, and 6 lakhs are, respectively, the highest, the lowest, and the average packages offered in the course. Cognizant, Wipro, TCS, Infosys, and Mphasis are the top recruiters for the course.
Infrastructure: There is a well-organized library with high-speed Wi-Fi facilities. The classrooms are well-maintained, clean, and well-ventilated, with good air conditioning. The quality of the hostel is also very good. The food available in the mess and canteen is decent. Sports and games are also organized in the college.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful, well-qualified, and knowledgeable. Their teaching quality is good; they try to make the students feel the use of any topic in real life they teach. Yes, the course curriculum is very relevant and is capable of making students industry-ready. The difficulty level of the semester exams is average.

College is good only for TFW students.
Placements: Almost 90% students placed, but only few get dream offer. The lowest in teach branch is 3 LPA, and the highest is 10.50 LPA. Top recruiters are TCS, Infosys, IBM (ONLY GIRLS), ORACLE (10.50 LPA). Internship is rare; only few got for their skills. If you do, you do.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is bad until you SEE other WBJEE colleges in West Bengal. Wi-Fi is only available in the library. Hostels are only available for girls on campus, not for boys. And you will not stay in college after 7 pm. Canteen facility is awesome.
Faculty: Faculty are like they doing 9-5 job. But all are well-qualified; some are from Jadavpur University. Eng. courses are irrelevant because we all want teach-related things, but our as usual education system taught irrelevant things since childhood. Semester exams are easy.
Other: Fest is not here. I want to wish improve everything, especially sports.

One of the best private institutions in Kolkata.
Placements: Placement is so far good and nearly above average in the best streams, like CSE core, CSE branches, and ECE. Seniors are getting placed in internships too. The success rate is good. Companies are giving an average pay package starting from 5 lacs to 9 lacs. This is a very good private institute in Kolkata .
Infrastructure: The classrooms are top-notch, and the Wi-Fi facility is amazing. The library has an amazing stock of new books. My department offers various opportunities for exhibitions, hackathons, research paper and many more starting from the 1st year itself. The hostel is provided only for girls and not boys. It is very safe for girls and is inside of the college campus.
Faculty: The teachers helps us in different way, providing suggestion, brief notes. The exam system is very flexible and convenient for students. The curriculum is very relevant. The semester exams are quite easy if you follow the class notes and previous year question papers. Scoring a good CGPA is very easy if u are a sincere student. The teachers provide us with daily assignment. There is daily assessment on your behaviour and participation in class. It helps us to cope up with the pressure of the industry.
Other: ECE is the oldest course in heritage. It has amazing opportunities in college only. The exhibition, hackathon, seminar and learning process are never-ending. There is a cultural club for different activities and technical fests are a very common thing. The only thing one is going to miss out on is the fest. Heritage doesn't provide freshers or fests annually. But there are various cultural programs in a year that are very engaging. Also, it really doesn't compromise with the course and job facility .

Affordable Fees, Good Infrastructure, Not So Good Faculty, and Decent Placements.
Placements: About 80-85% of students were placed last year, with an average package of 4 LPA. The highest package was somewhere around 22 LPA, and the lowest package was 2.8 LPA. The top recruiting companies were Infosys, TCS, ITI, and Infotech. The highest package was offered by Microsoft.
Infrastructure: Talking about the infrastructure, it is pretty nice compared to the other colleges in West Bengal. There are 3 canteens, 3 cricket grounds, and basketball courts, which are also well maintained. The library has centralized AC and good lighting. The librarian is strict, so silence is maintained. Medical facilities are good, and an ambulance is also present at the parking ground. Classrooms do not have AC, except for biotechnology branch students.
Faculty: Teachers are qualified as they are Ph.D. holders, but teaching is a different skill, which they lack, based on my experience. They are not too friendly, as you will get negative marks if you do not maintain 75% attendance. The curriculum is well designed; we have subjects of management and skill development in every semester, including our core subjects. In a semester, there will be 4 class tests, 1 mid-sem, and 1 end-sem exam per subject, and there will be a minimum of 6 subjects per semester.
Other: I chose this college as placements are decent compared to the low fees we pay, so the ROI is good. I chose this CSBS branch because it was the best branch I could get with my WBJEE rank. But this branch is good as it has management and skill development subjects too. No fest is held in this college; only small shows are organized by different club heads in the auditorium area.

The college campus is good with all facilities, but the average placement is around 4 to 5 LPA.
Placements: Approximately 180 students are there in the ECE branch of our college. In other branches, there are almost 200 students. The average package of the course is 4 to 6 LPA. TCS is one of the top recruitment companies. Around 50 percent of students get placed in companies.
Infrastructure: In heritage, facilities are good starting from the lab department; all are well-maintained. The infrastructure of this college is also good. The course duration is almost 4 years for B.Tech. In every corners of this college, you can get the Wi-Fi facility. In the library also.
Faculty: All the teachers here are qualified, and many of them are from Jadavpur University and Calcutta University campuses. Their teaching quality is also good. I think the most relevant part of the subject in this college is humanities, where they prepare students for interviews.
Other: I chose this course because I am interested in it. The best thing about this course is you can choose two paths: one in software and the other in hardware.

  • Lateral Entry: If you've completed a Diploma in engineering,  you can apply for lateral entry to the second year of a B.Tech programme at HIT. Admission is based on a separate entrance exam conducted by WBJEE.
  • Management Quota: Some seats in each B.Tech programme are reserved under the Management Quota. While not "direct" in the strict sense,  this might offer an alternative route for admission if you meet the eligibility criteria and pay the required fees.

Important Points:

  • The Management Quota seats are limited and admission isn't guaranteed. Merit and other criteria set by the institute determine selection.
  • Regardless of the quota you apply under,  fulfilling the program's eligibility criteria (e.g.,  minimum percentage in qualifying exams) remains mandatory.

Recommendations:

  • Check the official HIT website or contact the admissions office for the latest information on B.Tech admission procedures and specific eligibility requirements for different options.
  • Focus on preparing for WBJEE or JEE Main if aiming for regular admission through merit.
  • Explore the Management Quota option only if the regular admission process doesn't work out and ensure you meet the set criteria.

Q:   Which has better placement at Heritage Institute of Technology, B.Tech in CSE or B.Tech in ECE?

A:

When it comes to placements at Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT), both B.Tech in CSE and B.Tech in ECE have their own strengths and advantages, making it difficult to definitively say which one has "better" placements. The choice can depend on your individual interests, skills, and career aspirations.

B.Tech in CSE:

  • Higher Average Package: Generally speaking,  the average package for CSE graduates at HIT tends to be higher than that for ECE graduates. Recent reports suggest an average package of around INR 6-7 LPA for CSE,  compared to INR 5-6 LPA for ECE.
  • More Top Recruiters: IT giants like Infosys,  Wipro,  TCS,  and Google tend to actively recruit CSE graduates at HIT,  offering opportunities in software development,  cloud computing,  data analytics,  and other high-demand fields.
  • Wide Variety of Roles: With the booming IT sector,  CSE graduates have access to a diverse range of career paths beyond traditional software development,  including cybersecurity,  AI/ML,  and blockchain technology.

B.Tech in ECE:

  • Core Engineering Focus: If you enjoy the hands-on aspects of electronics and hardware,  ECE offers a more core engineering curriculum compared to CSE's software focus.
  • Growing Demand: With advancements in automation and smart devices,  the demand for skilled ECE graduates is on the rise. This opens doors to exciting opportunities in robotics,  telecommunications,  VLSI design,  and embedded systems.
  • Specialist Roles: Beyond IT companies,  leading engineering firms like Tata Advanced Systems and other electronics manufacturers actively recruit ECE graduates,  offering lucrative careers in specific technology domains.

Additional factors to consider:

  • Your Interest: Ultimately,  choosing between CSE and ECE should be based on your genuine interest and aptitude in either field. You'll be dedicating years to the chosen field,  so passion is crucial.
  • Future Career Goals: Do you envision yourself coding and building software solutions in the IT world,  or are you drawn to the more physical aspects of designing and developing electronic hardware?  Aligning your goals with the strengths of each programme is key.
  • Research Industry Trends: Stay updated on current and future trends in both IT and Electronics sectors. This can help you understand the potential growth and job opportunities in each field.

Conclusion:

Neither CSE nor ECE is inherently "better" in terms of placements at HIT. Both offer promising career prospects with unique advantages. Evaluating your personal interests, desired career path, and industry trends will help you make the most informed decision. Consider attending college open houses and speaking to alumni from both programs to gain deeper insights before choosing your B.Tech path at HIT.

Q:   What to do after JEE Main session 2 result?

A:

Candidates preparing for IITs are only required to appear for the JEE Advanced entrance exam after qualifying JEE Main. Students who who secure above the 98th percentile in JEE Main 2024 Session 2 should start preparing for JEE Advanced 2025 immediately. Those who score between 95th and 98th percentile should focus on improving their JEE Main score by taking multiple mock tests and practicing previous year's question papers. By analysing their strengths and weaknesses, candidates can identify their areas of proficiency and topics where they need improvement. If they can achieve full marks in their practice sessions, they can start preparing for JEE Advanced. However, if they cannot score full marks, it is recommended that they appear for multiple mock test series for more practice.
