PhD admission at IIT Gandhinagar is subject to a written test and/ or interview conducted by the institute. IIT Gandhinagar offers a Ph.D. course to students at the doctoral level in 13 specialisations. Apart from regular Ph.D. courses, the institute also provides Start Early Ph.D. courses to students. IIT Gandhinagar admission process is entirely based on the selection of candidates via popular entrance exams such as JEE Advanced and GATE, etc., for courses such as BTech and MTech, respectively. Further, IIT Gandhinagar conducts an institute-level test for the selection MA and PhD courses. Candidates must fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria as per the course requirements and then qualify for the respective entrance exam in order to secure a seat at IIT Gandhinagar. Later on, the final seat allotment is done through counselling process.

Candidates preparing for IITs are only required to appear for the JEE Advanced entrance exam after qualifying JEE Main. Students who who secure above the 98th percentile in JEE Main 2024 Session 2 should start preparing for JEE Advanced 2025 immediately. Those who score between 95th and 98th percentile should focus on improving their JEE Main score by taking multiple mock tests and practicing previous year's question papers. Candidates seeking admission to BTech at IIT Gandhinagar are expected to qualify both JEE Main and JEE Advanced and further go through JoSAA counselling to secure admission. However, getting final admission only on the basis of JEE Main score, is not possible. Additionally, to be eligible for the BTech programme, candidates must have passed their Class 12 with 75% aggregate. Hence, while JEE Main is the most important starting point to get into IIT Gandhinagar for the glagship programme, it is not the only criteria for it. 

No, candidates seeking admisison must have a valid score in IIT JAM exam and not GATE. GATE is the accepted exam for admission to M.Tech at IIT Gandhinagar. The institute also offers an Early Admit MSc, the eligibility criteria for that is as follows:

• BSc and BTech students from select colleges and NITs, respectively who will graduate in 2022 or have graduated in 2021 and are among the top five rank holders in the departments at the end of their pre-final year and final year are eligible to apply for Early Admit MSc
