IIT Kharagpur BTech Eligibility & Highlights 2026
IITKGP BTech is a flagship programme offered to students willing to make a career in the field of Engineering. Offered with 15 specialisations, this programme runs for a duration of four years. The mode of education is full-time.
Along with this, the institute offers a five-year Integrated BTech + MTech programme. Apart from these two courses, it also offers BTech in the parent department combined with MTech in Entrepreneurship Engineering via Rajendra Mishra School of Engineering Entrepreneurship (Coordinating Department) and a BTech in the parent department combined with MTech in Financial Engineering via Vinod Gupta School of Management (Coordinating Department).

IIT Kharagpur BTech Scholarships 2026
IITKGP BTech scholarships are offered based on merit and need. Under the Merit-cum-Means scholarship, the institute supports meritorious students by providing them financial aid. As per the scholarship policy, 25% of the students admitted each year to the undergraduate courses are offered financial aid.
Fresh entrant students should have obtained at least 60% marks in aggregate or a grade corresponding to 60% marks in the qualifying examination for JEE Advanced. For subsequent renewals, the student’s performance in the two consecutive semesters of the preceding session, i.e., GPA, as updated after the supplementary/summer quarter examination, must not be lower than 7. IIT Kharagpur Merit-cum-means scholarships are offered to award and support meritorious students. Under this scheme, every year, the college awards these scholarships to 25% of the students admitted to the undergraduate courses.
IIT Kharagpur scholarships are subject to renewal every year. Any student who wants to continue availing scholarship benefits in the second year will have to fulfill a certain eligibility criterion. For subsequent renewals, the student’s performance in the two consecutive semesters of the preceding session, i.e., GPA, as updated after the supplementary/summer quarter examination, must not be lower than 7.00.
IIT Kharagpur provides MCM or Merit-cum-Means Scholarships to students. Candidates pursuing BTech Dual Degree, BArch, Integrated MSc or BSc can apply. This scholarship provides tuition fee exemption to up to 25% students every year and have a minimum academic requirement.
IIT Kharagpur offers a joint MTech/ MCP PhD programme to students who have completed their UG degree in the relevant stream. Under this programme, at the end of the first year, interested students with a CGPA of 8.0 and above are eligible to appear for a written test and/or interview to check their suitability to enrol for PhD. Those who do not qualify for PhD can continue with their two-year MTech/MCP programme. Students selected for PhD will have to complete the two-year academic requirements of MTech/ MCP programme before enrolment for PhD. For these students, the MTech/MCP and PhD degrees will be awarded together upon successful completion of PhD. The programme is open to students of all categories with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ MSc or equivalent professional degrees (AMIE, etc.) with a valid GATE score.
