Not a bad college. All facilities provided, but bad hostel and crowd, and dissatisfied with the staf
Placements: I'm in B.Sc., which doesn't really meet job requirements; most of us pursue placements after a Master's degree. In our college, I’m not exactly sure about the placements, as our seniors managed the placement cell, but I doubt any of them took the offers or were given any in the first place. The offered roles are very menial, such as clinic helpers or data entry professionals. The highest offer I know of was 2 LPA, and the lowest was 80K PA.
Infrastructure: In terms of our department, all three classes (1st, 2nd, and 3rd years) are on the same floor close to each other, and the staff room is also nearby. We have a lab with various experiments, but it’s not a separate room; the staff room doubles as the lab. As a day scholar, I’ve heard and seen that the hostel is pretty bad. The boys' hostel has a strong odor and a poor atmosphere. The restroom has short walls, about 6 feet high, offering minimal privacy. The ladies' hostel rooms seem to be somewhat better based on what my female friends have shared. Both hostels generally suffer from poor ventilation and lighting. The mess food is decent; students often exaggerate about its quality. While sometimes the food, like the idlis and buttermilk, is indeed bad, I personally like the soya chunk gravy offered on Saturdays. The canteen serves good food, including the best egg puffs I’ve had anywhere, though I have doubts about its hygiene. I’ve seen a clinic room for medical facilities, but it’s rarely used or open. The sports and games facilities are okay, with football being popular. We have a large, unmaintained field that's just a mud ground. There is also a new indoor auditorium said to house badminton and basketball courts, but I doubt it will be equipped anytime soon. Finally, we have a gym with old equipment, some of which is broken. However, the gym fee is only 100 Rs, so it’s reasonably acceptable.
Faculty: We have 4 teachers; 2 of them are recent graduates. I have no idea how they became college professors. Their knowledge is limited to the curriculum and they aren’t very invested in the subject. The other 2 professors are not great but not too bad. In general, they are not very well-versed in English or the subject. They just do their job. None of them seem to have any passion for the subject. The basic curriculum knowledge can be gained with some self-study. The curriculum is relevant, and the education makes us ready for a basic level in the industry. Exams are incredibly easy if you know the concepts. The only issue is that 5-mark questions require 2 pages of answers and 8-mark questions need 4 pages. Considering I did CBSE, which focused on the quality of content, it's hard. But I get good marks despite not focused study sessions, just observation in class. Not sure of the pass percentage, but I think we had a 100% pass rate in the 2nd semester.
Other: I chose this course because I had psychology in my 11th and 12th, which piqued my interest. I love the way it integrates into life in general. For a start, the college could get better professors, which would change the entire structure and make the course much better. There is no shortage of events here; we get at least 2 programs every month. Our college holds a lot of festivals, mostly cultural ones. They are conducted by the students, and the college only facilitates them. The campus crowd is not great; they come for the fun and low fees and waste their time. But after a good look, you can connect with some quality students who are great in studies and various areas of life. You need to be explorative to find them. In my class of 30, only one matches my standards of quality in a person. But now we have connected with about 5 others who match our standard. It depends on the person and what kind of connections they like. The campus is pretty small, about 13 acres. This makes it easy to get to different classes. The area outside the campus is alright too, with lots of restaurants and bakeries. The bus stop is about a km or half from the college exit. Scholarships from the government are available. In terms of extracurricular activities, we have many events, clubs, sub-clubs, and others.
