Master of Design (M.Des.) - Batch of 2016
Offered by National Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai

Good infrastructure but dissatisfied with the placements.
Placements: Placements are not great. From my batch, only 10% students were placed. The highest salary offered was 6 LPA and the lowest salary offered was 1.8 LPA. All design and forecast related companies recruited the students. Designer, merchandiser, and buyer were the positions offered. Internship was not provided by the college. Stipend - Nothing to Rs. 5000.
Infrastructure: All kinds of facilities are available - Wi-Fi, design labs, classrooms, etc. Medical facilities, sports facilities, and good quality labs and classrooms are available. Satisfactory quality of food. One of the best hostels in comparison to other campuses of NIFT. No infrastructure related issues faced.
Faculty: The faculty members are supportive and knowledgeable. They are qualified enough to teach us. The teaching methods include PPTs, books, and field visits are organised. The student-faculty ratio is 7:1. We got industry exposure too. We visited different factories. The course curriculum was useful and additions are always great.

NIFT doesn't have a specific Master’s degree in textile design. Masters is a researched based degree and select programs, where you can work with textiles. It is best to reach out to the faculty and see, if any of them are involved in textiles or worked in that field.

You can apply for fashion design. You can do your masters in design and take up fashion design. This will help you not only learn about the technical aspect of fashion design but help you build up a resume and contacts in the industry. You can also do internships and shadow other designers to learn

You can apply for a scholarship. Government colleges like NIFT and NID have reasonable fee structure and offer scholarships to deserving students. You can try talking to your college and get help in getting a loan.
