Q:   Is B.E. / B.Tech at Panimalar Institute of Technology a good choice?

    A:
    {Source: B.E. / B.Tech students & alumni}

Is BE/BTech at Panimalar Institute of Technology a good choice?

Unfortunately, based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, it appears that Panimalar Institute of Technology (PIT) may not be a good choice for several reasons:

    * Poor Placement Record: Many students reported difficulty finding placements, with only a small percentage securing jobs with decent packages (average package: INR2-3 LPA). Some students even mentioned that most companies that visit the college are small startups or offer low-salary positions.
    * Lack of Infrastructure and Facilities: Reviewers mentioned that the college's infrastructure is old, broken, and in disrepair. There are no proper labs, libraries, or recreational facilities, leading to a lack of learning resources and overall student satisfaction.
    * Underqualified Teachers: Several students felt that their professors lacked expertise in the subjects they taught, leading to poor teaching practices and limited opportunities for growth.
    * Restrictive Environment: Students described the college atmosphere as restrictive, with numerous rules limiting their freedom and autonomy. They were not allowed to use mobile phones, interact with peers of the opposite gender, or even attend events and festivals.
    * Limited Industry Exposure: Despite being located in Tamil Nadu, a hub for technological innovation, PIT does not seem to offer adequate industry exposure or connections, making it challenging for students to secure internships or job opportunities.
    * Low Passing Percentage: According to reports, the passing percentage at Pit is relatively low, suggesting that students may struggle to meet academic expectations.

Overall, while PIT may offer certain courses, such as AI and Data Science, the institution's shortcomings in terms of infrastructure, teacher qualifications, placement record, and general environment make it a less attractive option for aspiring engineers and technologists.

Very disappointed after joining Panimalar .
Placements: 20 percent of the students got placed in my course; we don't get any core job offers. Some IT companies come and recruit few students who are good in coding. The highest package was 3.5 LPA and the lowest was 1.5 LPA. The recruiters were Hexaware, Cognizant and TCS; other than that, some startups come and recruit 1 or 2 students. No one has gotten internship till now through college; everyone tries on their own and some people get it. The roles offered are cloud engineer, full-stack developer, etc.
Infrastructure: There are no facilities in my college; there are no proper labs, both for electrical and coding; we don't have Wi-Fi; and even there is no mobile network inside the college. The library is not used and even the booms are from 2010. There is a common mess that serves very unhygienic food and there was a rat in the sambar last month. The hostel is very unclean and in a broken condition, with no essential amenities.
Faculty: The teachers are underqualified and some of them have just finished a diploma and don't even have a proper degree. There are just lab assistants with zero knowledge about the subject who got promoted, as they are okay with low salaries. The course is updated but the teachers aren't and they just give us notes to copy down. No teaching is done. Semester exams are easy but the pass percentage is 50% due to the poor quality of teaching .
Other: I chose this college through teaching counseling. I thought it was a good college with high placements and facilities but I regret the decision. I wish they would close this college and save the lives of new students. There are no events or campus fests here. The only focus is academics and that too is not taught properly. We didn't even go on an industrial visit till now.

The Junk college of Tamil Nadu.
Placements: The college is just junk. Last year, only 20 students got placed in my whole department of 180 students. This year, no company has come till now. The highest package was 3 LPA, and the lowest is 1 LPA. The companies were Renault, Trios, and TCS. No one got an internship through the college; some of them tried individually and got selected. The roles were Embedded Systems Engineer and Network Engineer, and some got a Software Analyst role.
Infrastructure: There are no facilities in my college. The labs don't have systems or the equipment, and the classrooms are very unclean and full of rats. We have a library, but we are restricted from accessing it; it's just for showcase purposes. We have a hostel that doesn't have the basic essential amenities, such as a constant water supply, and we also experience drainage water. Rooms are cleaned once every 2 months. We have a mess, but the taste of the food is yuck. We don't have a choice other than to eat it, as we don't have any canteen. There are no medical or sports facilities.
Faculty: The teachers are not at all helpful; they are very rude towards the students and not at all qualified. They are just lab assistants who don't even know the basics of the subject. They just give us notes and tell us to copy them down. The syllabus is also outdated and focuses only on theoretical concepts. Semester exams are quite easy, but only 50% of students pass them. If a student gets an arrear, they are discriminated against.
Other: I chose this course as I got only this through counseling. There are no best things about this course. The only option left for me is to develop skills and go for off-campus placements. We don't have any industry sessions or skill development classes; we are just locked down in the classrooms and tortured. There are no events, annual symposiums, or extracurricular activities.

Highly disappointed and depressed by Joining this college and placements fear me a lot.
Placements: In my course, around 60–70% of students were placed; the highest package offered was 8 LPA and the lowest was 2 LPA. Companies like Hexaware, Cognizant, TCS and many startups visited our college. The roles offered were junior data analyst, business analyst, Python developer, and SDM.
Infrastructure: The facilities in my college are top-notch; we have well-equipped labs, modern classrooms with 3d projectors, etc. Only one mess is available in our college, which serves delicious and nutritious food and serves non-vegetarian food three times a week; we don't have a canteen.
Faculty: The teachers were very helpful and guided us well regarding our extra skills and life in industry but when it came to academic teaching, proper explanations of topics were not given; only notes were given without fail and asked the students to just memorize them, which happens in most of the English colleges. Our course was designed by Anna University as we are non-autonomous and exams and corrections were done by Anna University, so there are no possible chances of a high CGPA, which happens in autonomous colleges where own college staff correct their own students papers and give better grades than deserving grades.
Other: I am really passionate about AI, which made me join even this tier 3 college. Here I would say there would be extracurricular activities beyond academics; the only focus is studies and getting a good CGPA, which don't really matter during placements. Having no arrears is the only criteria for attending the placements. There would be no events or social interactions in my college, Panimlar Institute of Technology, but in Panim Eng College, which is on the same campus, there would be higher placement, better skills and competitions and more campus Connect exposure. So please join Panimalar Engineering College if you really want to join this academic life.

Number 1 worst college in Chennai.
Placements: In my department, around 20 percent of the students in my seniors were placed on campus, and the remaining students are getting placed through off-campus opportunities. The highest package was 7 LPA, the lowest is 2 LPA, and the average is 3 LPA. Companies like Hexaware, Accenture, Avasoft, Deltax, and some other startups came. No one in the current or senior batch got an internship through campus as we lack proper exposure and guidance.
Infrastructure: We don't have any facilities or infrastructure. Everything in the college is broken, and some of it is in a semi-functional state. There are no labs, no Wi-Fi, and the library restricts students from studying and entering it; it's only for show. We have a hostel, and a separate cost is charged for it with zero amenities. Water doesn't come half the time, there are frequent power cuts, and the main issue is no Wi-Fi.
Faculty: Teachers are qualified but don't even know the basics of 12th standard. They are just lab assistants who prepare notes from ChatGPT and ask us to study from them. Nothing is taught in the classrooms; we are only asked to lie down or copy down the notes. The course is updated, but there is no one here to teach it. Semester exams happen every 3 months, but only 60% of the students pass them.
Other: There is nothing good to say about this college. I would rather say it's just a jail. We have no extracurricular activities, no industry events to update our skills, and no competitions. Scholarships are just given to a few students who come through government quota.

I am absolutely dissatisfied with the staff.
Placements: No students were placed in my senior batch of around 5 students. Off-campus companies were TCS, Accenture, and some startups, and the highest package was 5 LPAs and the lowest was 2; the roles offered were web development, data analysis, and full-track development. Students didn't get an internship from any company.
Infrastructure: There are no facilities such as Wi-Fi, no proper software or hardware devices, a classroom full of dirt and broken benches, and only a library in which books date from 1990. Labs have Windows XP OS. We have a mess that is very hygienic, there are no medical facilities in case of emergencies, and there is no ground for sports.
Faculty: The teachers don't have basic knowledge about the subject, and teachers bunk the classes by sitting in the staff rooms in the AC. They are just lab assistants who don't even know what programming is. The course is outdated, and students have to develop their own skills. Semester exams are difficult, and only 50% of students pass.
Other: I chose this course because of my interest, but it was the worst thing I did. Even though a course has value in the market, studying it at this college makes it worthless. There are no events in my college, no extra activities, no scholarships, and no exposure.

    Top engineering college in Chennai.
Placements: Our college provides internships as well as job opportunities to our students. As of 2023 placements, 70 percent of students got placed. Companies like TCS, Accenture, and Deloitte hire students from our college every year. The highest package offered by companies will be 15 lacs per annum.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college was super good. There is a large, spacious library with separate rooms for studying and searching. And there are also different varieties of foods available at our college canteen as well as in the hostel mess. There is a large stadium with all the facilities.
Faculty: The teachers were more irritative. And they were very strict. And they also task us to avoid interaction with boys and students. It's a little bit tougher to crack semester examinations. And they won't support us in extracurricular activities, but they are very supportive during exams.
