Prof. Dr. Shashikala Gurpur, Fulbright Scholar, Director, Symbiosis Law School, Pune, Dean, Faculty of Law, Symbiosis International (Deemed University), will receive the Jean Monnet Chair Professorship from the European Union on behalf of SIU.

The fact that this is the first Jean Monnet Chair granted in Pune and Western India, the first Jean Monnet Chair in India in Law to be headed by a woman, and only the second Jean Monnet Chair in India in the subject of law adds to the achievement's uniqueness and significance.

Dr. Shashikala Gurpur has a proven track record and extensive experience in International Law, Environmental Law, European Union Law, Human Rights, International Environmental Law, Climate Change, Biotechnology, Biodiversity, and other fields. During her tenure with the Law Commission of India and other important government entities, she worked extensively on policy-related topics and gave recommendations on a wide range of policy issues, including the environment.

She has also been recognised for her significant contribution to legal education, gender sensitization, and community engagement programmes. This was recognised by the Government of Karnataka, India, which bestowed upon her the renowned Annual Kittur Rani Chennamma Award in 2018 for her contributions to women's empowerment.

The Jean Monnet Chair recognises Symbiosis Law School, Pune, under SIU's over a decade of expertise in European Studies through Erasmus Mundus and Erasmus+ Projects, Student Exchange Programs, Masters Level Specialization, Certificate Programs, and so on.

The proposed chair will be focused on reaching out to a larger community of youth, including students, academics, NGOs, policymakers, think tanks, industry leaders, and youth from urban, semi-urban, and rural communities, in order to provide climate change-related courses, certificate programmes, and specialised workshops.

Short review of SLS Pune.

Placements: As I'm in the first year, I don't know much about the placements, but what I know after talking with the seniors is that most students who apply for placements get one. The average package that anyone can get from SLS Pune lies between 800k and 1000k rupees.

Really good academic curriculum but a bad student life.

Placements: SLS Pune graduates can be seen as senior partners and partners of the tier-one law firms in almost every sector of law. Placements can be taken only when you are eligible enough to join a firm of that rank. The college always performs its duty to bring the best firms and companies in this country with the best packages. It all depends on how you have performed in the 5 years of your undergraduate education.

Good college, good placement, good faculty.

Placements: The placement scenario at this college is decent but could be improved. With about 10 out of 400 students securing placements, the success rate is roughly 25%. Top recruiters like AZB and Khaitan offer opportunities, with an average starting salary of Rs. 700,000. Nearly all students participate in internships, which is a good sign of professional development.

Qualified faculty, relevant curriculum, and strong infrastructure.

Placements: Around 70-75% of LL.M. Business & Corporate Law students were placed. The highest package was around 10 LPA, the lowest around 4 LPA, and the average package was 6-7 LPA. Top recruiters include AZB & Partners, Trilegal, and ICICI Bank. Around 60-65% secured internships at firms like Shardul Amarchand and Khaitan & Co. Common roles include Legal Associate, Corporate Lawyer, and Compliance Officer.

I am very satisfied with faculty members and placements of this college.

Placements: Placements are very good. Mostly penultimate and final-year students get placed in tier-1 law firms. Few students also pass government exams like PCSJ and UPSC. Top recruiting companies are Khaitan, Trilegal, DSK Legal, etc. Approximately 40-50% of students got placed in this course.
