If shortlisted, B.Des applicants need to appear in a Situation Test, while M.Des candidates need to take a personal interview. The Situation Test carries 20% weightage, whereas the Personal Interview carries 30% weightage. One of the most effective tools to prepare for the Situation Test/ PI is to solve previous years' question papers.
NIFT Situation Test 2025 - The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will conduct the NIFT situation in April 2025. The test will be administered in offline mode for shortlisted candidates who have participated in the choice-filling process. The Situation Test will be held at various NIFT campuses.
Explore colleges based on NIFT Entrance Exam
In the case of MDes, MFM, and MFTech programs, shortlisted candidates have to appear in a Personal Interview, which will be conducted starting March 2025 (tentative).
Note that shortlisted candidates are required to participate in NIFT campus selection and slot booking process for the Situation Test/ Personal Interviews.
Q: When will the NIFT 2025 entrance exam be conducted?
The written tests for the NIFT 2025 exam will be held on February 9, 2025. The detailed schedule has also been released.
The written tests will comprise a General Ability Test (GAT) and a Creative Ability Test (CAT). GAT is mandatory for all candidates, but CAT is only required for B. Des and M. Des candidates.
The GAT test will be considered in a computer-based mode, whereas the CAT will be offline based. Note that scores of the written exams will be used to shortlist candidates for a Situation Test/ Personal Interview.
Q: When do I need to start my preparation for NIFT 2025 exam?
The NIFT exam is among the competitive and is also considered among the toughest. So, it is recommended that the candidate starts their exam preparation well in advance, say with around 1 years time in hand. Note that the NIFT exam has various components like written exam and Situation Test /Personal Interview. Candidates seeking admission to the B. Des and M.Des courses need to prepare for both the CAT and GAT. The CAT is a drawing-based exam, meaning the candidate will be evaluated on parameters like intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development, and design ability. Now unless the candidate is already well-versed, developing these skills will take time. So, it is prudent to start early. The same goes for the GAT.
Q: What is the candidate asked to perform during the NIFT situation test?
During the Situation Test, the candidate will be provided with a set of materials. Using these materials the candidate will be required to make specific models. In this test, candidates are required to create a 3D model based on the question asked for which they are given 2 hours, within which, they need to conceptualize and complete the model. After completing the mode, the candidate will also have to draft a write-up, which is evaluated by the jury later. Note that besides material exploration & management skills, NIFT also lays great emphasis on time management skills and students are closely monitored on the fact that whether they have managed to complete the task at hand in two hours or not.
