NID DAT Preparation 2025 - The National Institute of Design (NID) will conduct the NID DAT 2025 (Prelims) exam on January 5, 2025.

Q:   How much time is needed to prepare for the NID DAT 2025 exam?

A candidate would ideally need around 6 months or so to prepare the NID DAT 2025 exam. This time frame will allow the candidate to go through each topic in depth and prepare for the exam effectively. However, if the candidate has a strong grip over the fundamentals and basis concepts, it is still possible to prepare for the exam even in 3 months or less.   • Practice drawing

Practice drawing whatever catches your imagination, or anything around you, be it your mom’s kitchen, the street you visit to buy daily grocery, the mall, or may the security guard performing his duty.

There are various forms of drawing, like caricature, photorealism, figure, cartoon, animation, doodling, gestural, technical, etc. Practice each form of drawing. Live sketching and still drawings also open up one's hands. 

During the exam, it is always a good idea to make a light outline, rather than putting rigid lines or curves. This way, there will be little need to erase and re-draw. This in turn will keep the copy clean and tidy. 

Another tip is to learn the art of using dry color, as they are easier to handle and takes less time. Do some research about color rendering, theory, emotions, etc. 

Note: Be original in your creations, because it is what will impress the jury. Conversely, copying designs from others can sink your boat pretty fast.

Prep Tips for NID DAT (Mains) 2025

The test pattern for NID DAT Mains is such that candidates are asked to make a sketch (or model) in THREE hours. After the studio, the candidate will also have to appear in a personal interview.

Develop Observation & Visualization Skills - Remember, that DAT Mains will not evaluate how much information you carry in your brain, but rather how effectively and creatively you can use that information to create something beautiful and awe-inspiring.

Solve Sample Papers - This is one of the best tools to prepare for the design entrance exam. Further, using a timer, the candidate may also be able to work on their time management skills through the sample papers.

Q:   What topics will be covered in NID DAT Mains?

A:

Candidates who qualify in the NID DAT 2025 exam has to next appear in the DAT Mains, which is the 2nd stage of the two-stage NID admission process.

The DAT Mains exam will include tasks like Model Making, Audio-Visual Exercises, Evolving ideas, Material Manipulation, Importance of body language, Creative thinking, and Doodling. The Studio Test is hands-on test that will be conducted in offline mode. During the Studio Test, the material handling of the candidate will be tested, as well how creative and innovative the candidate is, and whether he or she could come up with impromptu solutions.

Q:   Is there negative marking in NID DAT?

There is no negative marking in NID DAT 2025 exam. The candidate is recommended to go through the detailed exam pattern to get insights into the question paper structure, including types of questions asked, sections, etc. The DAT Prelims exam for the B. Des programme has two parts. Part I will include 22 objective-type questions, whereas Part II will include 4 subjective-type questions. Being one of the toughest and most competitive entrance exams in the country, it is not easy to predict the nature of the NID DAT 2025 question paper in advance.

The questions in the exam will, in fact, be framed in such a way as to test a candidate’s creativity level as well as how quickly they can put their ideas on paper.

Here we bring some tips for NID 2025 exam day so that the student can avoid common and silly mistakes when taking the exam. 

  • Read questions carefully and thoroughly
  • Read the solutions/ options in sequential order.
  • Make sure that you go through the answer options provided to you very carefully.
  • Try to attempt questions as per your strengths and weaknesses. Attempt those sections of the exam first in which you are good.
  • Do not be in a hurry to attempt the drawing questions.
  • Be careful with the media you use for your drawing questions.

Q:   What is the reporting time at NID DAT 2025 exam centre?

A:

The reporting time for NID DAT 2025 will be mentioned in the admit card, along with gate closing time, and exam timings and date.

The candidate needs to report for the DAT Prelims exam at 8 am. The gates of the exam center will close at 9,30 am (or 30 minutes before the commencement of the exam). After that no candidate will be allowed inside the exam hall.

The DAT Prelims exam for the B.Des and M.Des courses will be conducted tentatively in the 4th week of December 2024.

The reporting and exam commencement time for NID DAT 2025 will be mentioned in the admit card. The candidate must arrive at the exam centre as per the reporting time.

If the candidate is late, there is chance that he or she will not be allowed entry inside the exam center.

Q:   Will there be a baggage counter at NID DAT 2025 center?

The National Institute of Design (NID) may not make any arrangements for a baggage counter. So, the candidate must bear this in mind when packing for the DAT Prelims exam.

It is recommend that the candidate only packs the bare essentials, and don’t bring unnecessary stuff to the exam centre.

Also, expensive items like smartphones, jewellery, gadgets, etc. should be better left at home.

The other thing is to dress up in a comfortable attire.

No, unfilled seats in SC/ ST category will not be de-reserved. Meaning, such seats will not be transferred to the open category. The same applies to GEN-EWS category seats. 

So, even if there are vacant seats left in SC, ST, and GEN-EWS category, such seats will lapse.

Yes, if there are unfilled seats in OBC-NCL, such seats will be de-reserved. Meaning, such seats will be transferred to the open category. Allotment of de-served seats  will be same as open category.

The allotment will be based on NID DAT 2025 merit rank.

When filling out the form, the candidate needs to upload the relevant caste/ tribe certificate (in English/ Hindi).

The certificate should be :

  • Issued in the name of the candidate.
  • Should clearly mention the caste/ tribe the candidate belongs to
  • Be issued by a competent authority

Seats that are left vacant/ unfilled in overseas (supernumerary) category will lapse. This means such seats will not be transferred to other categories. 

Candidates applying under overseas category are advised to go through the detailed admission process and eligibility criteria before applying.

As per information given in the NID admission handbooks, overseas candidates cannot apply for admission to GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST seats. Such candidates can't also apply for age-relaxation, scribe, etc.

Also, the fee structure for overseas category is different.
