NIFT Entrance Exam Sample Questions for GAT

NIFT entrance exam aspirants seeking admission to the Bachelor of Design (BDes) course offered at various NIFT campuses need to clear the NIFT Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT) as well as Situation Test. On the other hand, candidates wanting to secure admission to the Bachelor of Fashion Technology (BFTech) need to clear only the GAT. Shiksha has earlier shared the NIFT CAT previous years’ questions and in this article we have compiled a set of sample questions for NIFT GAT paper. Aspirants are advised to practice similar type of questions and thereafter, devise a plan to manage time well during their NIFT entrance exam, so that they are able to complete their exam on time. The NTA will conduct the NIFT 2025 exam on February 9, 2025. The exam will be conducted in a center-based mode across 82 cities in India. The candidate can select their choice of NIFT exam city at the time of filling out the application form.

The candidate can download the official sample papers from the official NIFT website; the sample papers are available in the form of pdfs. Alternately, they may download the sample papers from this page. The sample papers are available in downloadable pdf format and can be downloaded simply by clicking on the relevant paper; no login is required. Leading coaching institutes like the Rathore Design Studio and Academy of Fashion And Art (AFA) also releases sample papers along with the answer keys that the candidate can download for practice. But these institutes may charge a fee for downloading the sample papers?

Q:   Can I get NIFT Delhi without an entrance exam?

A:

No, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) only offers admission basis of candidates' performance in the NIFT entrance exam. Conducted by NIFT Delhi, the National Institute of Fashion Technology entrance exam is the only accepting exam for admission to NIFT Delhi for several UG, PG and UG Diploma courses. The final selection is based on Situation Test and Personal Interview. 

Q:   Can I join NIFT Kolkata without entrance exam?

A:

Joining NIFT Kolkata without entrance exam doesn't seem like a possibility. As per the Institution's admission guidelines, candidates must appear for the  The National Institute of Technology (NIFT) exam.  The exam is conducted once every year and has TWO parts:

  • Written Exams - It comprise the GAT and CAT. The GAT paper is mandatory for all programs, while only BDes and MDes candidates need to take the CAT. 
  • Situation Test/ Personal Interview - BDes candidates who get shortlisted have to appear in the Situation Test, whereas PG candidates need to appear in a Personal Interview. The only exception is BFTech program, where the admission merit list will be prepared solely based on GAT scores.

For NIFT Delhi B.Des admission, candidates must have passed Class 12 from any recognised Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education/ State Board New Delhi/ Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi. A passing grade in the Senior Secondary School examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects is also eligible to apply for the National Institute of Fashion Technology Delhi. 

Q:   Can students join National Institute of Fashion Technology Bhubaneswar directly without any entrance exam?

A:

No, National Institute of Fashion Technology Bhubaneswar does not offer admission without entrance exam. The institute conducts NIFT Entrance Exam including General Ability Test (GAT) and Creativity Ability Test (CAT). Aspirants need to qualify both GAT and CAT for BDes and BFTech courses. Only GAT score is required for admission to MFM followed by a personal interview round.

Q:   How many questions are asked in NIFT GAT?

A:

The exam pattern for NIFT GAT varies from one course to the other. The total number of questions asked in NIFT GAT are mentioned below: BDes: 100 questions BFTech: 150 questions MDes: 120 questions MFTech: 150 questions MFM: 150 questions Note that the GAT or the General Ability Test will be conducted in a computer-based mode. Questions will be objective-type. The GAT paper for the B. Des and M.Des programs will be of 120 minutes. However, the GAT paper for the B.FTech M.FTech and MFM courses will be for 180 minutes.

Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for B.Des in NIFT Chennai?

A:

NIFT Chennai BDes admission is done based on a valid score in NIFT Entrance Exam. Students must also satisfy the admission criteria as prescribed by the institute. Interested candidates can check out the following table to know about NIFT Chennai BDes eligibility criteria:

For MDes admission, a candidate should complete and passed a bachelor's degree programme from a recognised university in the relevant stream. The candidate should hold the valid degree and mark sheets as well. These documents can be required for submission during form filling or admission confirmation for details verification.

NIFT Exam Pattern 2025 B.It consists of 100 multiple-choice questions based on Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability, and General Knowledge and Current Affairs. The exam is conducted offline.
