General Ability Test (GAT) Preparation Tips for NIFT Entrance Test 2025

The written tests for the NIFT 2025 exam will be held on February 9, 2025. The detailed schedule has also been released.

The written tests will comprise a General Ability Test (GAT) and a Creative Ability Test (CAT). GAT is mandatory for all candidates, but CAT is only required for B. Des and M. Des candidates. 

The GAT test will be considered in a computer-based mode, whereas the CAT will be offline based. Note that scores of the written exams will be used to shortlist candidates for a Situation Test/ Personal Interview.

Des and M.Des courses need to prepare for both the CAT and GAT. The CAT is a drawing-based exam, meaning the candidate will be evaluated on parameters like intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development, and design ability. The National Institute of Fashion Technology Kolkata accepts NIFT entrance exam scores, followed by a counselling process for admission to design courses at the UG and PG levels. NIFT Kolkata cutoff 2024 was released up to Round 5 wherein the closing ranks ranged between 504 and 2653 for the General AI category candidates. So, considering the last round cutoff, candidates seeking admission to NIFT Kolkata must secure a rank up to 2653 for the General AI category.

Yes, you are eligible to apply fir NIFT Kannur if you have score 75% in your Class 12 boards. The minimum eligibility required for applying to the institute is Class 12 or its equivalent from a recognised board. Joining NIFT Kolkata without entrance exam doesn't seem like a possibility. As per the Institution's admission guidelines, candidates must appear for the  The National Institute of Technology (NIFT) exam.  The exam is conducted once every year and has TWO parts:

• Written Exams - It comprise the GAT and CAT. The GAT paper is mandatory for all programs, while only BDes and MDes candidates need to take the CAT. 
• Situation Test/ Personal Interview - BDes candidates who get shortlisted have to appear in the Situation Test, whereas PG candidates need to appear in a Personal Interview. The only exception is BFTech program, where the admission merit list will be prepared solely based on GAT scores.

All candidates must qualify the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Entrance Exam to be eligible for admission to any of the NIFT campuses, including NIFT Bhopal. The NIFT Entrance Exam is a comprehensive assessment of design aptitude, creativity, and general knowledge.

During the Situation Test, the candidate will be provided with a set of materials. Using these materials the candidate will be required to make specific models. In this test, candidates are required to create a 3D model based on the question asked for which they are given 2 hours, within which, they need to conceptualize and complete the model. After completing the mode, the candidate will also have to draft a write-up, which is evaluated by the jury later. Note that besides material exploration & management skills, NIFT also lays great emphasis on time management skills and students are closely monitored on the fact that whether they have managed to complete the task at hand in two hours or not.

The allotment of seats will be based on: 

1. Choice opted at the time of counseling registration (academic programs + campuses)
2. The category of the candidate
3. Seat intake in the college opted for admission
4. NIFT 2025 merit rank of the candidate. 

NIFT 2025 seat allotment process will be conducted in four regular and one spot rounds.

The 1st round of seat allotment will be declared around the 3rd week of June 2025. .

The counseling registration will be conducted in May 2025.
