Changes in KEAM 2024 Exam Pattern

The following changes have been introduced in the KEAM 2024 exam pattern.

  • KEAM will not have two papers anymore. There will be one paper.
  • The KEAM 2024 engineering candidates have to attempt a total of 150 questions. Mathematics will have 75 questions, Physics will have 45 questions and Chemistry will have 30 questions to be answered in 180 minutes.
  • For KEAM 2024 BPharm ONLY candidates, the Entrance Examination will have 45 questions in Physics and 30 questions in Chemistry to be answered in 90 minutes.
  • For each correct response, candidates will be awarded FOUR marks, and for each incorrect response, ONE mark will be deducted.

KEAM 2024 CBT Exam: Know Changes

In the event of a successful transition of the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) examination from its current Pen and Paper-based Test (PBT) format to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format, some significant changes will occur.

Q:   What is the KEAM marking scheme?

A:
In order to understand the KEAM question paper pattern, it is important to study the marking scheme in the exam. The exam marking scheme to understand the KEAM pass marks is similar to the JEE Main marking scheme. Candidates will be awarded 4 marks for every correct answer. 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer. 4 marks will be awarded to candidates for marking every accurate answer. No marks will be deducted for not attempting a question. In case a candidate has marked two answers for a single question in the OMR sheet, negative marking will be applicable regardless of either of the answers being right or wrong.

Q:   How is tie-breaking done in KEAM for engineering rank list?

A:
In the case of a tie in the total marks computed for preparation of Engineering rank Then: Candidate with higher marks in Mathematics in the Entrance Examination will be placed higher in the ranking. If the tie still exists, the candidate with higher marks in Physics of the Physics & Chemistry Paper in the Entrance Examination will be placed higher in the ranking. If there is still a tie, the candidate with higher standardized marks in Mathematics in the final year of the qualifying examination will be placed higher in the ranking. If the tie still persists, the candidate with higher standardized marks in Physics in the final year of the qualifying examination will be placed higher in the ranking. If there is still a tie, the age of the candidate will be taken into account and the older will be placed higher in the ranking.

Q:   Is there any negative marking in KEAM?

A:
Yes, one mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. For every correct response in KEAM candidates will be awarded four marks and for each wrong response, one mark will be deducted from the candidates' total score. The pattern of the exam states that the KEAM question papers will comprise objective type questions (MCQ). For each question asked, five answers will be suggested but, only one of them will be correct. All the questions asked will be from KEAM syllabus listed for Physics Chemistry Mathematics / Biology.
  • The exam will be conducted in phases, as it would not be possible to arrange over 1.2 lakh computer terminals at the same time.
  • There will be normalisation of scores for engineering and pharmacy exams.
  • Candidates will be able to practice mock tests on entering the exam hall for 15 minutes before the actual exam starts.
  • The post-examination process will take less time like answer key release and result declaration. Until last year over three to four weeks were required to scan the OMR sheets. Once the exam becomes computer-based, evaluation becomes faster with the scores being made available to the candidates in the shortest time.

What is a Computer Based Test (CBT)?

A computer-based test (CBT) is a type of exam that is taken on a computer or a computerised device. In a CBT, the test questions and answer options are displayed on a computer screen, and the candidate selects the answer using the computer mouse or keyboard. The exam is usually timed, and the candidate must complete the test within a given time frame. With the increasing use of technology, many entrance exams and certification exams have moved from the traditional pen-and-paper format to a computer-based format rapidly.

Q:   What is new in KEAM exam?

A:

In 2024, KEAM transitioned form a pen and paper based test to a computer based test. The exam started to be conducted in phases, as it would not be possible to arrange over 1.2 lakh computer terminals at the same time. Since the exam is now held in shifts, normalisation of scores for engineering and pharmacy exams has been introduced. Alo the syllabus of the KEAM exam has been changed in 2024. The new revised syllabus must be downloaded from the KEAM official website and used for the exam preparation.

Q:   What is the new exam pattern of KEAM?

A:

As per the new KEAM exam pattern, applicable from 2024 onwards - KEAM will be held in computer-based test mode and there will be one paper with three sections (maths, Physics, Chemistry) for BTech candidates and two (Physics, Chemistry) for BPharm candidates. The KEAM entrance exam for engineering courses will consist of 150 questions, with Mathematics having 75 questions, Physics having 45 questions and Chemistry having 30 questions. For candidates appearing for KEAM BPharm ONLY, the entrance exam will have 45 questions in Physics and 30 questions in Chemistry, to be completed within 90 minutes. Each correct answer will fetch candidates four marks, while every incorrect answer will result in a deduction of one mark.

Until 2023, KEAM was held in pen and paper based test format. There were 2 papers - paper 1 was Physics and Chemistry and the paper 2 was Maths. Each question carried 4 marks and any wrong attempt led to -1 marking. Each paper has 120 questions and carried 480 marks in total. The time duration for each paper was 150 minutes.

Q:   Can I request for change in KEAM exam centre?

A:

No, Once a candidate has been assigned a test center for the KEAM exam, no requests for changing the center will be accepted. The assigned center will be communicated to the candidates exclusively through the KEAM hall ticket.

Here is how to appear for the KEAM CBT exam:

  • After the scheduled Mock Test time, the candidates will be automatically redirected to the Examination Screen, where the candidates can attend the actual test.
  • An information panel is provided on the top of the screen indicating total questions, answered questions and the time remaining for the examination.
  • Below the information panel, the Question Block will be displayed to show the question and options. Questions will be displayed one by one. The options of questions will also be
