These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.

Lockdown has become a common word for all of us these days and if we analyse, we all must come across this word at least two to three times a day. But, what are the consequences of this lockdown on our daily lives?

Firstly, as we all know that this lockdown all around the world will impact the world economy. It has impacted every nation and businesses in various ways. In simple words, there will be unemployment all over the world and this lockdown will kill more people due to poverty than due to the epidemic. The governments of various countries around the world are doing their best to cope up with the situation, however, filling up the hole created by this pandemic is not possible easily. Also, this has impacted the Education sector as well.

According to the study of UNESCO, around 91% of the total students in 188 major countries will be impacted by this epidemic.

In these 91% of students who have access to technology might be able to withstand in this storm, but the students in poor or developing nations can’t have access to technology would face a problem. Also, as some of the industries are on complete closure, the scholarships provided by them for the sake of social responsibility would be halted or if not then the number of slots would be decreased due to which a great number of economically weak students would have lesser opportunities. This would be no worse than pushing someone back in the dark, who has struggled a lot in the hope of getting some light.

In this lockdown, many came up with the idea of having online classes. This is a game-changing move. This could help students utilise their time in this lockdown and complete their syllabus and assignment during this lockdown. Also, many students cannot get these classes because of various reasons such as lack of technology or lack of access to the basic amenities. However, every individual is trying their best to ensure that they could make the best possible use of the time in hand.

Overall the online education is a great move and we should support this move by keeping in mind various advantages.

Some say that online education will affect some of the students of the class as they might mute the video or could not attend the same due to internet issues. In this epidemic, many students are getting benefitted and making every possible effort to ensure that their education is continued even during the lockdown. All the students must take advantage of this situation and learn various technologies which would help them in future.

So, these are some ideas that I think will impact the field of education because of this new scenario of online education.
