Mystory@Mir Murtuza Ali: How I chose my course and college
I still remember the night when I had just completed my tenth boards and my vacations had commenced. I was sitting with my father and we were having this conversation about my future college and what course should I choose. My father gave me full right to choose a course of my choice. He told me a few things which influenced my life a lot. He said, “Irrespective of any course you choose, eventually it will be you who would be driving your own career. Your determination, perseverance and hard work will be the things that will determine your achievements.” I consider these wise words as the principle code of my life. At that moment I was happy, but confused and fearful as it was the decision of my career that I was about to make. I thought engineering has become a stereotype in our country where enormous numbers of engineers graduate every year. But in the end, I took the decision of taking up a career in engineering only, as it was my dream. I had a cousin who was in IIT Roorkee and I was very inspired by him. Moreover, I had a deep interest in automobiles so I thought why not opt for engineering? So I went forth with my decision, and enrolled in the Math, Physics and Chemistry course in Sri Chaitanya Junior College.
How I cracked college admission
My journey during the junior college period (XI and XII) was a bit unstable and not according to my plan. I had aimed for IIT but things didn’t go the way I wanted, and I had to pay for it. During the first year I was very keen about my aim that was to crack JEE. I managed to get a decent score in standard XI, but as time passed in XII standard, I had lost all my determination and focus towards academics. Leave JEE, I got a backlog in my XII Board. I didn’t clear it in the supplementary so I had to repeat another year. I had lost all hope and was completely broken. My family including my father was worried about me. That’s when I thought I can try to make up for what I had lost. I started taking tuitions for my backlog and I got enrolled for EAMCET coaching, and I managed to crack both. I passed and even got a seat through counseling in my desired branch in my desired college. I also tried for CBIT but didn’t get a seat according to my rank. I was opting for a branch in mechanical field and thankfully got a seat in my desired college.
What I gained from my college years
I spend my time mostly in the classes (both theory and practical). I like to attend practical classes because I believe that one gets a better understanding of any subject when you study it practically. Until now, I found workshop lab the most interesting where we had a practical approach to many interesting subjects like welding carpentry, fitting, and plumbing. Apart from academics, I’m a member of the Entrepreneur cell of my college where we conduct a lot of interesting small ventures and events. I’m even planning to kick start my maiden venture after the coming semester. We have many interactions with corporate leaders, IAS officers and alumni of our college. I even play snooker, football, cricket and sometimes table tennis. If given a chance, I would like to study Finance and Business Administration. I’m a stock market investor, and being from a technical background, I had to opt for a few course regarding the Financial Markets before starting investment. I find the study of finance very interesting. I would like to further study about Financial Markets, Wealth Generation and Wealth Management, and Business Management is another field which I would like to know more about. I have a deep interest in entrepreneurship. I’m even planning to start up my own venture. However, thinking of an idea is not enough – with the right practice it could be made into reality and management is one of them. I have a plan of doing Master’s in Business Administration. My college experience has taught me many things- dealing with pressurising situations during exams, organising your plans and prioritizing them, dealing with people, creating targets and planning to achieve them, learning about new ideas of innovations, interacting with teachers, and the best of all enjoying college life.
