Taking a drop year though is a very good option as you get to sit for JEE Mains, Advanced and other exams again and will have a whole one year for preparations.
KCET every year witnesses around 1.5 lakh aspirants giving exams. If you have a low score or you are unable to get your desired college, then the first question that comes to one's mind is, whether to take a drop year or not? Taking a drop year though is a very good option as you get to sit for JEE Mains, Advanced and other exams again and will have a whole one year for preparations. In this article, I am going to discuss the best possible options after getting the result and will put forward the best options one can opt for with a not very good score.
After the result, there could be two scenarios. First, you got good marks but you are not able to make it to your dream college. In such a case, I would suggest not to take a year drop. You can simply choose another college and you may get your desired branch. In counselling, the most important prospect is choosing a branch. This will define your skillset and moreover your whole career after graduation. Taking a drop just for a better campus isn't a smart decision. Although you can go for a drop to opt a better branch, it'll be worth it as after you graduate, the better your branch will be, the more better you will have career options. There are students who even after cracking the exam with good marks took a drop year and topped as they wanted to improve their stream.

The second case here is you haven't got good marks in KCET. In this case, one can go for a drop year. But drop year is a tough year. One should take this decision logically than being emotionally or being pressurised.
This should be a self-decision as you may feel under pressure and in dilemma. If you can bear the pressure, expenses and assure yourself better results this time, opt for a drop year. It is better to take a drop from an institute than self-study. If you are not interested in taking a drop year, there are still many options available for you. You can opt for various good state government colleges where 'home state quota' is available. You can also apply for various other institutes which have good rankings and give admissions on a lower Mains score or through their own entrance tests. Some of these colleges are listed below:
Manipal Academy of Higher Education ( Main campus ) - MOUET
Lovely Professional University - LPU NEST/ JEE Main ( In whichever your marks are greater will be applicable )
Anna University ( Tamil Nadu ) - TNEA
VIT University, Vellore - VITEEE
SRM Institute of Science and Technology ( Main campus ) - SRMJEEE
The LNM Institute of Information Technology
Push hard till two rounds of counselling but not after it. Meanwhile apply for any other colleges as per your convenience.
