CTET Exam Pattern 2024: The CTET exam comprises two papers- Paper 1 and Paper 2. The CTET Paper 1 is for Classes 1 to 5 teachers and Paper 2 is for Classes 6 to 8 teachers. CTET exam pattern comprises name of subjects, the number of questions asked in the exam and the marking scheme of Paper 1 and Paper 2. The CTET Paper 1 pattern comprises five sections- Child Development and Pedagogy, Language-I (compulsory), Language-II (compulsory), Mathematics and Environmental Studies. Q: Is there any negative marking in the CTET exam?

No, there is no negative marking in the CTET examination. Candidates are awarded one mark for every correct answer in the exam and there is no deduction for wrong answers or unattempted questions. The reason behind the 'no negative marking' policy is that the CTET is an eligibility exam and not a recruitment exam. The CTET exam is conducted in two levels- Paper 1 is for candidates interested in teaching classes 1 to 5, and Paper 2 is for candidates interested in teaching classes 6 to 8. Both the papers consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) wherein each question carries one mark. Q: Will CTET be conducted online or offline?

The CTET 2024 exam will be conducted offline in pen and paper mode. The CTET exam is held every year to determine candidates' eligibility for appointment as teachers in Central Government Schools such as KVS, NVS, and others. Until 2020, the CTET exam was held offline in pen and paper mode. From 2021 onwards, the exam was being held online wherein candidates were required to mark their answers on the computer. However, the exam will now be held offline again, as per the official notice.

The difference between Paper 1 and Paper 2 in CTET is: 1. The CTET Paper 1 is for those teaching aspirants who wish to teach at the primary level, I. e. , classes 1 to 5. 2. Paper 2 is for candidates who are eligible to teach Classes 6 to 8. 3. You can appear for Paper 1 after completing your 12th grade or equivalent. You also need a Diploma in elementary education. 4. To apply for Paper 2, you need to have a graduation degree and a two-year Diploma or degree in education. You can appear for both papers if you fulfil the eligibility criteria for both papers.

The CTET Paper 2 is for teaching posts in classes 6 to 8 in government schools. The paper 2 pattern is as follows: The syllabus for CTET Paper 2 consists of four sections. (a) Section 1: 30 questions based on child development and pedagogy, each worth one mark. (b) Section 2 and Section 3: Language 1 and Language 2 each consist of 30 questions worth one mark. CTET Marking Scheme for Paper 1

One mark is awarded for every correct answer in the exam. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers in the exam.

Nature & Standard of Questions in CTET Paper 1

Questions in Paper 1 are based on topics prescribed in the NCERT syllabus for Classes 1 to 5. However, the difficulty level of questions can be up to the secondary level.

Questions in Child Development and Pedagogy subject of Paper 1 focus on the educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 6-11 years
Questions in Language I focus on the proficiencies related to the medium of instruction
Questions in Language II focus on the elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities. It may be noted that language-II should be different than language-I. Candidates need to choose any one language as Language I and other as Language II from the options available in the table below:

Almost all the sections of the CTET exam hold equal weightage. In CTET Paper 1, all subjects including Child Development and Pedagogy, Language-I, Language-II, Mathematics and Environmental Studies hold equal weightage. Q: What is the duration of the CTET exam?

CTET exam is of 2 hours 30 minutes duration for each paper. The CTET exam is conducted in two shifts on each exam date. The CTET Shift 1 starts from 9:30 am to 12 noon and Shift 2 is from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm. The examination is conducted online in the computer-based test (CBT) mode in each shift. The CTET exam 2024 is conducted in two shifts for Paper 1 and Paper 2. The CTET exam duration 2024 for both papers is 2 hours 30 minutes. As per the official CTET exam timing 2024, Paper 2 is held from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon and Paper 1 is from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm.

There is no limit to the number of attempts the CTET exam. Candidates falling within the CBSE-prescribed age limit can appear for the exam for any number of times.
