CTET Eligibility Criteria 2024 is prescribed by the NCTE for CBSE CTET Paper 1 and Paper 2. CTET Eligibility 2024: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is carrying out the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) Dec 2024 exam process. Candidates need to undertake the CTET registration 2024 to appear for the exam. The CBSE accepts applications only from those candidates who fulfil the CTET eligibility criteria 2024. Candidates are required to go through the detailed eligibility criteria before filling out the CTET application form 2024. The CTET eligibility 2024 for Paper 1 and Paper 2 has been fixed as per TET guidelines framed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). 

CTET Paper 1 is meant for candidates who plan to teach Classes 1 to 5 and Paper 2 is meant for applicants who wish to teach Classes 6 to 8. Candidates who want to teach Classes 1 to 8 need to appear for both papers. The CTET Paper 1 eligibility is different from the CTET Paper 2 eligibility criteria. The CTET Paper 1 and Paper 2 eligibility criteria are mentioned in detail in the official CTET notification of the exam along with the educational qualification, age limit, and reservation norms. Q:   What are CTET qualifying marks for the OBC category?

A:
The CTET qualifying marks for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category is 55 per cent. OBC candidates need to obtain 82 marks out of the total 150 marks to qualify the exam. A 81 mark scorer OBC candidate will fail to clear the exam.

Q:   What are CTET passing marks for the SC and ST categories?

A:
The CTET passing marks for the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories is 55 per cent. The SSC & ST categories candidates need to obtain 82 out of the total 150 marks to qualify the exam and obtain the eligibility Certificate.

Q:   Does CTET mark matter?

A:
Yes, the CTET marks matter in terms of qualification. Candidates need to obtain the qualifying CTET marks to clear the exam and obtain the eligibility Certificate. Only those candidates are awarded the CTET Certificate who pass the CTET exam by obtaining the minimum qualifying marks.

Q:   What is the eligibility for CTET?

A:
The CTET eligibility criteria differ for Paper 1 and Paper 2. Some of the basic requirements to fulfil CTET eligibility criteria for Paper 1 is passing 12 examinations with a minimum of 50 per cent aggregate marks and Paper 2 is completing graduation with a minimum of 50 per cent aggregate marks. Candidates should go through the detailed eligibility criteria before filling out the CTET application form.

Q:   Can I change my CTET exam centre?

A:
No, candidates are not allowed to change their preferences of CTET exam centres after the final submission of the CTET application form. However, the CBSE provides a one-time facility of CTET application correction to candidates wherein they can modify their exam city preferences. However, no request of exam city modification is entertained after the closing of application correction facility.

Q:   What is the pay scale for CTET qualified teachers?

A:
The pay scale of the CTET-qualified teachers typically ranges from INR 9,300 to INR 34,800. Candidates who qualify the CTET exam become eligible to apply for teacher recruitment process in schools such as KVS, NVS and others. The CTET-qualified candidates are awarded the Certificate through which they can apply for recruitment and start getting a decent salary.

Q:   How many attempts are there in CTET?

A:
There is no limit to the number of attempts the CTET exam. Candidates falling within the CBSE-prescribed age limit can appear for the exam for any number of times. As per CTET eligibility criteria, candidates should be of minimum 18 years of age and there is no upper age limit. The upper age limit is prescribed by the recruiting agency at the time of recruitment after the candidate qualifies the CTET exam.
  • NCTE Eligibility for CTET: National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) (Determination of Minimum Qualifications for Persons to be Recruited as Education Teachers and Physical Education Teachers in Pre-Primary, Primary, Upper Primary, Secondary, Senior Secondary or Intermediate Schools or Colleges) Regulations.
  • Minimum educational qualifications as laid down in the Recruitment Rules for the teachers by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangthan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), and other schools.
  • Candidates should satisfy their eligibility before applying for the exam as they are fully responsible in case they are not eligible to apply as per the given CTET eligibility 2024. If a candidate has been allowed to appear for the CTET 2024 exam, it does not imply that his or her eligibility has been verified. The eligibility will be finally verified by the concerned recruiting body or school.

CTET Eligibility Criteria 2024: Educational Qualification for Papers 1 & 2

CTET eligibility for Paper 1 (primary teachers) and Paper 2 (elementary teachers) is different. Go through the details below:

CTET Educational Qualification 2024 for Paper 1 (Primary Teachers)

To be qualified for being a primary teacher of classes 1 to 5, applicants must meet any one of the given CTET eligibility criteria in terms of education qualification:

  • Passed Senior Secondary or Class 12 exams with a minimum of 50 per cent marks and passed or appeared in the final year of the two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.Ed) (by whatever name known)
  • Passed Class 12 exams with a minimum of 45 per cent marks and passed or appeared in the final year of the two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known) per rules mentioned in NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002
  • Passed Class 12 exams with a minimum of 50 per cent marks and passed or appeared in the final year of four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
  • Passed Class 12 exams with a minimum of 50 per cent marks and passed or appeared in the final year of a two-year Diploma in Special Education
  • Graduation in any stream with a minimum of 50 per cent marks and a BEd  degree

Note: Candidates who have obtained the BEd degree from any NCTE-recognised institution need to mandatorily undergo a six-month Bridge Course in Elementary Education recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) within two years after being appointed as a primary teacher.

CTET Educational Qualification 2024 for Paper 2 (Elementary Teachers)

To be qualified for appointment as an elementary teacher of classes 6 to 8, applicants must meet any one of the given CTET eligibility criteria in terms of education qualification:

  • Graduation and passed or appearing in the final year of a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.Ed)
  • Graduation with minimum 50 per cent marks and passing or appearing in a one-year BEd course
  • Graduation with a minimum 45 per cent mark and passed or appearing in one-year BEd per the rules and norms of NCTE
  • Passed Class 12 exams with a minimum of 50 per cent marks and passed or appeared in the final year of four-year B.El.Ed
  • Passed Class 12 exams with a minimum of 50 per cent marks and passed or appeared in the final year of four-year BA/BSc.Ed or BA.Ed/BSc.Ed
  • Graduation with minimum 50 per cent marks and passed or appearing in one-year BEd in Special Education

Note: Candidates belonging to the SC/ ST/ OBC/ PwD category are given a relaxation of 5 per cent in the minimum marks required to be eligible for the CTET exam.

CTET Eligibility 2024: New CTET Eligibility Criterion Added by CBSE

The CBSE added one more eligibility criterion in the CTET December 2021 session exam. Have a look at the new criterion below:

'Post-Graduation with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade and three-year integrated BEd - MEd'

As per the above-mentioned criterion, candidates who have obtained a minimum of 55 per cent marks in the post-graduation with a three-year integrated BEd-MEd course from any NCTE-recognized institution are eligible to appear for CTET 2024 exam and will be considered for appointment as Classes 1 to 5 teachers. However, the condition that prevails is that such candidates need to mandatorily undergo a six-month Bridge Course in Elementary Education within two years of their appointment.

CTET 2024 Exam Eligibility: Number of Attempts

There is no fixed limit on the number of attempts in the CTET 2024 examination. Candidates can appear for the CTET exam any number of times till they obtain the desired scores. 

CTET 2024 Eligibility: Associated Parameters

  • A diploma/degree in teacher education pursued by candidates should be mandatorily recognized by NCTE.
  • In the case of a Diploma in Education (Special Education) and BEd (Special Education), a teacher education course recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) only shall be considered.
  • A candidate with Diploma in Special Education needs to undergo, after appointment, an NCTE-recognized six-month Special Programme in Elementary Education.
  • Applicants are chosen as teachers of Physical Education according to the regulations and norms laid down by NCTE.
  • For teachers of Art Education, Craft Education, Home Science, Work Education, etc. norms by other school management and state government are applicable until NCTE lays down its minimum eligibility norms with such teachers.

CTET Eligibility 2024: Qualifying Marks

Candidates who gain minimum qualifying marks are declared qualified in the CTET exam. General Category candidates need to obtain 60 per cent marks. There is a relaxation of 5 per cent for reserved categories such as Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Class (OBC), and Differently Abled. Candidates who belong to OBC/SC/ST categories need to obtain 55 per cent marks.
