How to Avoid Mistakes While Filling CLAT 2026 OMR Sheet PDF?

Filling the CLAT 2026 OMR Sheet correctly is important as any mistake could lead to the invalidation of your answers. The CLAT OMR sheet is scanned and processed, and any improper marking or discrepancies can result in errors in your final score. Below are some common mistakes candidates make while filling the CLAT OMR sheet, along with tips on how to avoid them:

  • Not Using a Black or Blue Ballpoint Pen

Mistake: Using a pencil or any other colored pen instead of a black or blue ballpoint pen.

How to Avoid: Always use a black or blue ballpoint pen to fill out the OMR sheet. The OMR scanner is designed to read ink from these colors only. Pencils or different ink colors can cause scanning errors and might not be recognized by the system.

  • Incorrectly Marking the Answer Boxes

Mistake: Making incomplete or unclear marks in the answer boxes.

How to Avoid: Ensure that you fill the circles by darkening them fully. The mark should be inside the circle and not outside. A faint or partial mark may not be detected by the scanner.

  • Using Multiple Answers for One Question

Mistake: Marking more than one option for a question.

How to Avoid: Choose only one answer per question. If you mark more than one option, the answer will be considered invalid. If you're unsure, leave the question blank (though not advised as best practice) rather than marking multiple answers.

Also Read: CLAT 2025 Answer Key: UG and PG OMR Sheets for Correct Answers

  • Marking Outside the Designated Circle

Mistake: Marking outside the designated circle or incorrectly filling the box.

How to Avoid: Ensure that your mark is made inside the circle and is completely darkened. Avoid stray marks outside the circle as these could be misread or ignored.

  • Forgetting to Write the Required Information

Mistake: Forgetting to fill in your details such as name, roll number, or registration number.

How to Avoid: Always double-check that you have correctly filled in all necessary personal information in the required fields, such as your name, registration number, and other relevant details.

  • Leaving the Answer Sheet Blank

Mistake: Leaving answers blank when you should be attempting questions.

How to Avoid: If you know the answer, make sure to attempt it. Leaving too many blanks will reduce your overall score. If unsure, attempt the most probable answer but avoid random guessing.

Also Read: CLAT Past Year Question Paper with Answers

  • Changing Answers Improperly

Mistake: Erasing or crossing out answers when making changes.

How to Avoid: If you need to change an answer, ensure you mark the circle corresponding to the correct answer. Do not use erasers or make crosses through previous answers, as this may not be recognized by the OMR scanner.

  • Not Following the Instructions

Mistake: Ignoring or misunderstanding the instructions provided in the exam booklet or OMR sheet.

How to Avoid: Carefully read and follow all the instructions on the OMR sheet and the exam booklet before starting. Pay attention to any specific instructions for marking the OMR sheet, especially those related to the use of pens, filling the circles, etc.

  • Using Correction Fluid

Mistake: Using correction fluid (such as Tipp-Ex) to erase mistakes.

How to Avoid: Never use correction fluid to erase any mistake on your OMR sheet. This can result in the OMR scanner rejecting the sheet or incorrectly interpreting the answer.

  • Incomplete or Invalid Signature

Mistake: Failing to sign the OMR sheet or providing an incomplete signature.

How to Avoid: Be sure to sign the OMR sheet where indicated, and ensure your signature is clear and valid.

  • Misreading the Question Paper

Mistake: Marking answers for questions other than those you intended.

How to Avoid: Double-check that you're marking answers for the correct question number. Ensure you correctly match the question on the OMR sheet with the corresponding question in the exam paper.

  • Not Checking for Unanswered Questions

Mistake: Missing questions that are left unanswered, especially towards the end of the exam.

How to Avoid: Before submitting the OMR sheet, check that all questions you attempted have a mark filled in. Ensure that you haven't skipped any answers.

  • Not Aligning the OMR Sheet Properly

Mistake: Misplacing or shifting the OMR sheet while filling it out.

How to Avoid: Keep the OMR sheet aligned properly and in the correct position while filling out your answers. Be cautious when turning the sheet to avoid smudging or misalignment.

By following these tips and avoiding these common mistakes, candidates can ensure that their OMR sheets are correctly filled out, maximizing their chances of having their answers accurately evaluated. Always double-check your OMR sheet before submitting it to avoid last-minute errors.
