CLAT Syllabus 2025 - CLAT 2025 Syllabus consists of five sections; i.e. English Language, Legal Reasoning, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. The Consortium of NLUs prescribes the syllabus for the CLAT and it is one of the toughest law entrance exams in the country. The syllabus of CLAT 2025 has been released by the Consortium along with CLAT 2025 Notification.

As per the updated CLAT Exam Pattern, the total number of questions has been reduced from 150 to 120 in CLAT UG. Candidates appearing for the CLAT 2025 are advised to check the syllabus for CLAT 2025 at consortiumofnlus.ac.in or below. For CLAT Preparation candidates must refer to the official syllabus. Q:   What is the syllabus for CLAT 2025?

A:

The syllabus of CLAT is vast, which means it is not limited to certain topics from each section. Moreover, the exam authority, Consortium of National Law Universities has not defined the syllabus of CLAT question paper for undergraduate or postgraduate paper. Candidates can check below important topics from each section as asked in the previous years: English - The key topics from this section includes Reading comprehension, Sentence completion and correction. Spelling errors, Proverbs and adverbs, Synonyms and antonyms, Idioms and phrases, Vocabulary and word meanings. Current Affairs including GK - National and international Current Affairs (from April 2021 to October 2024) Contemporary events of significance from India and the world, General knowledge about world leaders, industrialists, lawyers, Arts and culture of India and world, Historical events of continuing significance. Legal Reasoning The section is based on Facts, situations or outlines of legal matters, public policy or moral philosophical enquiries, General awareness of contemporary legal and moral issues, Legal terms and meanings. Logical Reasoning - Relationships, Analogies, Arguments and conclusions, and Logical sequences are the key topics in this section. Q:   What kind of questions are included in CLAT question paper?

A:

The CLAT question paper for UG courses had objective-type questions from subjects such as Logical Reasoning, Legal Reasoning Quantitative Techniques, English and Current Affairs including General Knowledge. The CLAT paper for the LLM. course had both objective questions from law subjects such as Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract, Torts, Family Law, etc. Generally, the questions are designed as passage followed by series of questions of one mark each. Candidates had to attempt the questions by reading and interpreting the passages only.

CLAT Syllabus 2025 - Overview

  • Skills Tested - Comprehension and reasoning skills and abilities of the candidate.
  • Prior knowledge of legal subjects - The CLAT Exam will test whether the candidate has the aptitude and skills required for legal education, rather than test his knowledge of legal subjects. That being said, prior knowledge may be useful for answering questions in the Current Affairs section.

Q:   I have not cleared the CLAT exam. Can I appear for the exam again?

A:

Yes, you can definitely appear for the CLAT exam again if you did not clear it in the first attempt. The CLAT exam is conducted once a year by the Consortium for enrolling students in various law courses offered at 24 NLUs in the country.

There is no limit on the number of attempts that you can make for the CLAT exam. However, you have to fulfill the eligibility criteria to appear in the exam. All those candidates who are willing to appear for the CLAT 2025 should meet the eligibility criteria as announced by the Consortium of National Law Universities. All eligible candidates must fill the CLAT 2025 application form before the last date.The consortium released the updated eligibility criteria of CLAT 2025 for admission to 5-year LLB and LLM courses on its official website. These criteria include parameters like academic qualification, minimum marks, age limit, etc.

Q:   Who prescribes the CLAT syllabus?

A:

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) prescribes the CLAT syllabus. Any change made in the syllabus is announced by the Consortium on its official website. The announcement is made through the notification that is released in the PDF format.  The notification will contain all the information that is added or renewed like which subject syllabus has been changed, what are the topics that has been added and more. Recently, the Consortium has revised the exam pattern and reduced the number of question to 120 from that of 150.

Q:   Which is the most difficult section of the CLAT 2025?

A:

As per the exam analysis of CLAT exam held in previous years, the difficulty level of all the sections are as under:
English Language - Generally the questions asked in this section are considered easy. However, candidates can find them lengthy and time-taking as the questions are based on passages only. Current Affairs including General Knowledge - The questions in this section are of Easy to Moderate difficulty level depending on the events and technicality. Logical Reasoning - The questions asked in this section of CLAT paper are of easy to moderately difficult level due to facts and data interpretation. Legal Reasoning This section of CLAT paper is of easy to moderate difficult level as the questions are mostly asked from Legal domain, trending events, lex maxims, and current landmark judgements. Quantitative Techniques - Although the weightage of this section is lesser than the rest, the questions asked around Mathematics subject can be tricky/ twisted, which makes it moderate to difficult level. Q:   Who is eligible to appear for CLAT 2025?

A:

In order to be eligible for CLAT 2025, aspirants must have passed Class 12 exams or an equivalent examination from any recognised board or institution in the country. All those candidates who will be appearing in the Class 12 exam in April/ May 2025 are also eligible to appear for the CLAT 2025 Exam. However, such aspirants will have to produce the certificate of qualifying examination at the time of admission failing which their admission will be cancelled by the competent authority. Candidates are advised to carefully check the CLAT eligibility criteria 2025 before applying for the CLAT 2025 entrance exam.

Q:   Is 'Legal Aptitude' section removed from the CLAT question paper?

A:

As per the CLAT exam pattern released by the NLU Consortium, Legal Reasoning remained a part of the question paper along with Quantitative Techniques, English Current Affairs including General Knowledge and Logical Reasoning. If the exam authority decides to remove any of the sections of CLAT UG question paper in 2025, then it will inform the candidates in admission notification itself, so that candidates can prepare for the exam accordingly.However, no such announcement has been made so far. The Legal Reasoning section has been removed from AILET question paper only.

Q:   Is there any age limit to appear in CLAT Exam?

Candidates must note that they need not have to attain any prescribed CLAT 2025 age limit to take part in CLAT Exam 2025. As per the official eligibility criteria of the CLAT 2025, there is no age-limit criteria for candidates to appear in CLAT UG 2025 or CLAT PG 2025 exam. However, it is mandatory for candidates to fulfill other basic educational requirements, to take part in the CLAT Exam 2025.

CLAT 2025 is expected to be held in regional language. The Bar Council of India is planning to include vernacular languages as medium of paper in the coming years. Till CLAT exam 2024, it was held in the English language only like in previous years. CLAT 2025 PG Exam is also expected to be conducted in English only.

Instead, you must work on developing the skill sets required to become a lawyer, i.e., learn how to apply general principles or propositions to the given fact scenarios. Q:   What changes have been made in CLAT exam pattern?

CLAT Consortium made few changes in CLAT 2024 exam pattern. Hence, the consortium has not brought any changes in exam pattern of CLAT 2025. As per the CLAT Exam pattern, there will be 120 questions for CLAT UG question paper. This means, 30 questions will be reduced from CLAT UG 2025 question paper. Earlier, there were 150 questions in CLAT UG question paper. Moreover, the question paper will be on similar lines as previous series i.e. passage-based objective-types questions of 1 mark each, and 0.25 marks to be deducted for incorrect attempts.

No change in the question paper of CLAT PG has been made, and it will be held as per the previous exam pattern i.e. 120 Objective Type Questions based on core law subjects.

In 2021, the Consortium had removed the descriptive section from the CLAT LL. M. exam pattern. All LL. M. candidates had to attempt 120 multiple-choice questions of 120 marks in a duration of two hours.

The consortium of NLUs has come up with changes in the exam pattern of CLAT 2024. So, the exam pattern for CLAT 2025 has not been changed. As per the exam pattern for CLAT 2025, the total number of questions have been reduced from 150 to 120. However, no changes were made to CLAT 2025 syllabus or the number of sections in the CLAT 2025 exam. The 120 questions will be continued to be divided into the existing five sections; English Language, Current Affairs Including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques.

Q:   How many hours should I study to crack CLAT Exam?

A:

If you have enrolled in a coaching centre and already preparing for entrance exams then it is enough to crack CLAT. For self-preparation after class 12th, you need to have at least 1-1.5 months time which will be available as the CLAT test comes at last only.
You need to keep an eye on the complete syllabus and practice as many problems as you can with the time limit as CLAT requires speed and accuracy.
You need to score at least 120 marks to get a chance of getting a seat at CLAT and its other campuses.

Yes, the difficulty level of AILET is usually higher than CLAT as the competition is five times more for the limited seats of B.A. LL.B. And LL. M. courses available at NLU Delhi. Moreover, the exam pattern of AILET is also different than CLAT exam pattern. The cutoff marks are also higher for AILET conducted by NLU Delhi.
