The GPAT exam pattern 2025 is determined by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) in the official notification for the candidates interested in applying for the MPharma entrance exam. The GPAT 2025 exam dates have not been released so far it will be out along with the release of the official brochure. 

Candidates can download the GPAT information brochure that talks about the GPAT exam pattern from the official website at natboard.edu.in. The GPAT 2025 exam schedule will be shared by NBE in the official notification only. 

Candidates preparing for GPAT 2025 exam must know the two most crucial aspects of the MPharma entrance exam before they begin their preparation: the exam pattern and GPAT syllabus. There are a total of nineteen topics/subjects covered in the GPAT syllabus 2025. Knowing the syllabus and exam pattern of the GPAT exam helps candidates prepare well for the examination, and the chances of missing out on an important topic will be low. The exam pattern of GPAT defines important parameters of the examination, such as mode, medium, marking scheme, etc.

Q:   Are there any changes in the GPAT syllabus?

A:

The GPAT 2025 exam syllabus will be released by NBEMS. GPAT exam pattern was last modified in the academic year 2016-17, preceding which the examination was conducted twice a year. At present, GPAT exam is conducted once a year in computer-based format.

Since this year exam conduting authority have changed hence we may expect a change in the syllabus this year also. It will be released in the official notification.

Q:   Is there a negative marking in the GPAT exam?

A:
Yes, candidates whose answer is incorrect have to face negative marking of -1 mark each. There is no negative marking of the unattempted questions. The maximum marks of the question paper as defined by the authority is 500 and candidates will be given 3 hours time duration to complete the test. As there is negative marking in the exam, therefore candidates are advised to carefully attempt the questions in order to avoid negative marking in the exam.

Q:   Who decides GPAT exam pattern?

A:

National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) the exam conducting body of GPAT exam decides and release the GPAT exam pattern. The GPAT exam syllabus will also released by NBEMS. The GPAT official notification revealed the updated GPAT exam pattern which remained the same this year as well. Once the official notification is out, candidates can start applying for the exam. The GPAT exam pattern guides the candidates to understand the exam structure and to prepare a sound strategy to crack the pharmacy entrance exam.

Q:   How many sections will be there in GPAT exam?

A:

There will tentatively be 5 five sections in GPAT 2024 exam namely Pharmaceutical Chemistry & Allied Subjects, Pharmaceutics & Allied Subjects, Pharmacognosy & Allied Subjects, Pharmacology & Allied Subjects, and other subjects. The syllabus of the GPAT 2023 entrance examination majorly covers various dimensions of pharmaceutics. This year a new section on computational Biology and bioinformatics has been added to the syllabus.

Q:   Is GPAT an online or offline exam?

A:

National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) will conduct GPAT entrance exam in online mode. The MPharma entrance exam is organised at the designated test centers across several cities in India. On the day of the examination, each candidate will be allotted a computer terminal at the exam centre where they will have to input correct answers against the questions being asked in the exam. Candidates will be able to appear for the exam in two shifts: morning and forenoon.

Q:   Is there any sectional time limit in the GPAT exam?

A:

As per the directive of the exam conducting authority there is no sectional time limit to attempt different sections of the GPAT question paper. Candidates will get overall 180 minutes (3 hours) to attempt the questions in the exam. Candidates can switch between the sections to attempt the questions.

GPAT 2025 Exam Pattern: Insights

  • Mode: GPAT 2025 will be conducted in online mode. On the day of the examination, each candidate was allotted a computer terminal at the exam centre. For rough work, each candidate was provided with a rough sheet and a pen/pencil.
  • Medium: According to the previous year's exam pattern of GPAT, the medium for the examination will be English language only. Any requests for a different medium/ language will not be entertained.
  • Type and number of questions: Candidates will be tested on the basis of 125 objective-type questions. An objective-type question gives candidates 4 or more response options. Thus, instead of writing the answer, the candidate will have to choose the correct response from the options given and mark it.
  • Marking scheme: As stated in the GPAT exam pattern 2025, NBEMS will deduct marks for incorrect responses. Refer to the table given below to know the GPAT marking scheme.

Q:   Can I bring a calculator to the GPAT exam centre?

A:
No, candidates are not allowed to carry a calculator or any other electronic gadget to the GPAT exam centre. There is a complete list of things to do and avoid at the GPAT exam centre which candidates are advised to read carefully. Things prohibited at the GPAT test center includes: Any paper having textual material on it such as log tables or any written/printed content, Smartwatches, Mobile Phones or any other electronic devices, slide rules etc. Other rules will be mentioned on the GPAT admit card.

First one should have hope on himself to achieve great things. So have hope on yourself to become successful. We have to give more importance to the subjects like medicinal Chemistry pharmacology and pharmacognosy. Always be in good contact with your professors and ask them more doubt. In GPAT exam, generally there are 125 objective-type questions with 4 or more response options. Instead of writing the answer, the candidate has to choose the correct response from the options given and mark it. The exam pattern of GPAT 2023 clearly states that the medium for the examination will be English only. Any requests for a different medium/ language will not be entertained by the NTA.

Q:   How to prepare for GPAT?

A:

Dear aspirant, GPAT 2024 Preparation can be started by going through the exam pattern and syllabus. GPAT Syllabus consists of a total of 19 subjects which are further divided into various sub topics. From all the subjects, Pharmacology carries the maximum weightage. Around 25% to 30% questions are framed from this section. To improve the performance for GPAT 2022, candidates can solve GPAT Sample Papers. For the preparation, candidates need to focus on the numerical problems as around 4 to 5 numerical questions are framed each year. Based on the higher secondary syllabus, some fundamental questions from the section of organic and physical Chemistry are asked in GPAT Exam. With the help of a good GPAT Preparation Strategy, candidates can excel in the exam. GPAT Preparation of Pharmacognosy: There are many theoretical sections in this subject. Candidates need to go through all the sections and note down all the important points. It is helpful for the last-minute revision. As per the analysis from the previous years question, most of the questions came from the section of Senna, Morphine, and Vinca. It is important to read all the basic concepts of the drugs in order to understand their features and effects. It is advised to focus on Pharmacognosy to get good marks in GPAT 2024. GPAT Preparation of Pharmacology As per the feedback by the student, this section is considered as easy and interesting. This section carries a good weightage in GPAT. All candidates are advised to go through the section drugs interaction and mechanisms. Candidates are advised to use acronyms to memorise the name of the drugs. Q:   How many marks will be deducted if I skip a question in GPAT paper?

A:
There is no deduction of marks for question not attempted in GPAT exam. Candidates are allowed to skip a question if they do not know the correct answer. They will be marked zero for skipping the question. Overall there will be a total of 125 questions in the GPAT 2023 exam. One mark will be deducted for every wrong response. Each correct response will be rewarded with 4 marks in the exam.
