JEE Advanced 2024: IIT Madras Releases Important Update for OCI/PIO Candidates
As per the official website of JEE Advanced 2024, candidates who have secured OCI/PIO card before March 4, 2021, shall be considered as Indian nationals, for the purpose of admission to IITs. Read more details below.
IIT Madras has released an important update for JEE Advanced 2024 aspirants. The candidates who have got their OCI/PIO card before March 4, 2021, will be treated as Indian nationals for admission to the IITs. Note that this is only applicable to IIT admissions. The admission criteria for NIT, IIITs, and CFTIs must be checked from the relevant official websites of the institutes.
This change in eligibility has been brought forth after the decision (dated February 03, 2023) passed by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in Writ Petition (Civil) 891 / 2021. More details regarding the JEE Main Advanced 2024 eligibility will be available via the information brochure. The JEE Advanced 2024 brochure, eligibility, and information for Foreign National and OCI/PIO card holders are yet to be updated on the official website, jeeadv.ac.in.

IIT Madras has currently just announced the exam date and the schedule for the exam. JEE Advanced 2024 exam date is May 26. The registration will start on April 21 and the last date to apply will be April 30.
Until more information on JEE Advanced eligibility is released, candidates can check the eligibility criteria as per last year below:
- Candidates should be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in BE/BTech Paper of JEE (Main) 2024.
- Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1999. Five years of age relaxation is given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, ie, these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1994.
- A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
- Eligibility criteria for JEE (Advanced) 2024 states that candidates must have attempted the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2023 or 2024 with compulsory subjects being Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Candidates who have already appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination in 2022 or earlier, are NOT eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2024, regardless of the combination of subjects they have attempted or offered.
- Individuals who have previously been admitted to an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), regardless of their enrollment status or whether they accepted their seat in-person or online, are ineligible to participate in JEE (Advanced) 2024. Additionally, those who were previously admitted to an IIT but had their admission revoked for any reason are also not eligible to participate in the examination.
The IIT JEE Advanced entrance exam, conducted for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology, will be a computer-based test (CBT) comprising two papers. Each paper will have three sections, namely, Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. To be eligible for admission to the IITs, candidates are required to attempt both papers 1 and 2. JEE Advanced 2024 paper 1 will be held between 9 am to 12 noon, while paper 2 will be conducted between 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
Admission to the IITs is offered to candidates who qualify in the JEE Advanced exam, based on their course preference and JEE Advanced ranks through a common process by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). The JEE Advanced exam enables candidates to apply for a range of courses offered by the IITs, including BTech, BS, BArch, BTech and MTech dual degree, BS and MS dual degree, Integrated MTech, and Integrated MSc.
